Finally Bewley His race lead is starting to look untouchable though unless we get some kind of shakeup on day 5, big crosswinds maybe? Congrats Roman on the stage either way And thanks to trek for the reports as well
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Yatsevich and Dal Col are really injured it seems and despite my sprinters (Samolenkov, Korzh, Boev and Porsev) aren't taking part in the mass sprints, I really enjoy reading the detailed reports. Good job trekbmc!
Maybe Vorobev and Malori can still get a good GC in the end.

4 different winners bodes really well for the season. Who ever put the smartest race schedule for his top sprinter will be highly rewarded.
Nice to see Bewley winning for my mate at Moser. What a season it looks to be!
Also a great 4th by Coquard taking back the U25 jersey, and getting into striking distance of Tzortzakis in the epilogue. Top 5 is likely off limits, but another decent result could see him in the 6-8th GC region, which would be very Nice!
That said, the final flat stage have often costed many riders a shot at a good GC.

Not too bad, but I would like another top 10 placement in a sprint for Vanderbeast to have more of a chance at a good GC

Quite random how it plays out unfortunately.
Working all day, being in front all day, but then once again missing out.
2/4 stages not even a top10 in a race where this is most important...2nd in GC still is okay but now a big danger as without bonus seconds also time trialists might pass Swift.
The last sprint stage basically needs a win to make those 2 stages forgotten. Clearly not ideal but then again it`s Qatar and Qatar is a lot more difficult to have consistency as other races. Though with my train here, I was hoping to have some kind of consistency at least...
Nice report yet again and looking forward for the last 2. |

I highly doubt that is going to be relevant.
Last season, Georgos Tzortzakis (59 PRL) lost 31 seconds to winner, Panagiotis Vlatos.
Ben Swift lost 20 seconds.
This season he is leading by 46 seconds to riders like Coppel and Fiedler. He would need to 6+ seconds worse than the worst result of last season to be overtaken by TTers.
The way the bonifications have panned out this season, I doubt that any of the TTers will end up in top 10 to be honest. Right now 9th might be reachable (like Vlatos did last season - Fiedler got some bonifications on the way, otherwise would have been just short of top 10), but that is only if van Stayen, Grosu, Guarnieri, Kristoff and Vesely don't manage to get a top 5.

Shitday! Crash and maybe injured a bit or just bad position loosing some GC spots. Couqard Will most likely pass Ahlstrand in GC bit maybe we could take Ciolek if not injured. Avelino Will be to tough I guess. |

Happy or sad? Idk...
Golovash could have done well, but no hopes now... But Vanderbiest looks good for a top 10 GC probably.

Another tight sprint. Really impressive these stages. I thought Degenkolb would take this one, but Swift was particularly swift today. Congrats roturn.
Bewley should have this one in the bag.
Avelino consistent again, wish should be enough to secure a good overall for him. Looking forward for the aptly-called epilogue, which should be kind to us as well.

Grosu seems to have the speed but not the positioning. Hopefully in races with weaker startlists he'll do better. This is still better than anything he has ever done in Qatar though.
It looks like both Grosu and Howson will be in the top 20 now which would make up for losing the top 10.

This time Bewley got a way worse support from his team mates, but it still looks really good for the final stage - honestly said it would now be a disaster if Bewley can't bring home the overall win. One win, two 2nd places and two 3rd places, perfect consistency, really. A dream start for the new season, almost.
And also thank you SotD, thank you jandal! It is always really cool to see these nice words. And once again, thanks for the reports, highly appreciate both quick pace and quality!

Another satisfying sprint! Again a podium seemed well possible, if only Ciolek had gotten some slipstream in that flamme rouge shot like Swift right next to him did...that tiny bit of saved energy made all the difference.
Either way, I asked for two Top 5s to finish the sprint stages with, and I got it!
This should now safely put Ciolek out of TTer's reach, and I'm very happy the season doesn't start off with more doubts about his role in the team and whether keeping him was a wise decision.
From my calculation, all sprinters in the Top 12 but Tzortakis and van Stayen should be able to keep their advantage, Grosu and Kristoff still need to work a bit for that though.
Coquard has a decent chance to even challenge for third overall, him and Ahlstrand will definitely pass us but I hope that 22 seconds to Guarnieri will be enough, 7th in the GC would be incredible. Depending on Coquard, tied 4th in the sprint classification would only add to that even further.
Sütterlin on the other hand may only barely make the Top 20 if at all, either way he needs to give it all he has later and hope for the prologue lottery god. Third, maybe even second in the U25 classification is still up for grabs as well after a repeat jersey win is definitely out of reach.

What a disaster race. The split on stage 3 could have changed it but this way it's a catastrophe.
Nice to see a good break attempt though.

it worked quite well last season and it would even have been okayish if that split counted as he wouldn't drop so far in the epilog. But now? No spront results, VS's GC ruined by a split that wasnt awarded, Stoltz who could have been a top 15-20 GC candidate and should be one of the strongest echelon riders is the first one to drop because not caring about the race. This is pretty much a 0-pointer for me :/

Try to look at it the other way: Van Stayen will be easier to handle in renewals and you might be able to actually own some riders next season!

Bryan Coquard a bit inconsistent in his positioning, but definately reassuring to see him pick up three 4th places in 5 tries. Only once outside the top 10, and he should now be in contention for 4th GC if he performs well in the epilogue (He is yet to do really well though).
Congrats to Swift for making amends, although Bewley is just the most consistent rider in the peloton and will take an easy win.
The top 3 in the GC is set for now. All are decent against the clock, but in the right order (71-70-68).
Óscar Avelino is in a good position to maybe fight for 4th, being 6 seconds ahead of Coquard and 5 ahead of Ahlstrand. Ciolek also managed to do enough to secure 7th.
It will be interesting to see how high the TTers can go. 12-15th is my best bet, which makes it a bit worthless to spend 6 racedays. But oh well, the ones taking the "lucky" top positions can live with it I guess.

Second win for Swift! Despite not being able to win a 3rd time Qatar GC, 2 stages + 2º GC is something that roturn must be happy with, or least not angry

Praying for Durbridge to have a good daily form here this time...
Congrats (again), roturn. Still, Bewley just too consistent and strong. Very impressive performance from him (again).
