Bobridge with his best day in Pais Vasco, finishing 4th on S6 for a disappointing 6th in the final GC..
Vanspeybrouck finishes off a solid cobbled classics month as 9th in Roubaix. His 5th in the RvV as the outstanding result for him so far.
RACE PREVIEWS | APRIL 2017
PARIS - ROUBAIX | PTM | Classic
Race already finished. Our goal was a Top-10 and Pieter Vanspeybrouck rode to a solid 9th in the velodrome. No special result, especially since we had a rather disappointing E3 Prijs a few days before. But it will do.
GIRO D'ITALIA | GT | 21 Stages
Definitely the most important Grand Tour for Jayco this year: the Giro will be Lachlan Morton's only GT outing in 2017 and it's obviously a key race for the whole team then. Any disappointing result would definitely throw our team into the fight against relegation and so it's some pressure for Morton to avoid any crashes or stupid time losses (we're looking at TTTs here as well). After his disastrous T-A outing and last year's unlucky Vuelta performance (totalling five crashes in this two races alone), there's surely one big hope for Jayco this time: don't hit the turf, Lachlan!
The management went for the full TTT power tactic. Certainly not the worst idea with a prologue and an early TTT on the menu here. Given the most recent TTT results though, there's definitely a great possibility for Morton to get dropped from the TT horses. So we better not expect him to gain valuable time in the timetrials, which does not change anything about our goal here: the Top-5 in the GC! With the Giro startlist revealed today, we definitely had to change the goal from Top-10 to Top-5 and there's really less excuses for Morton to not deliver his best GT result of his career. The U25 jersey as another goal, that has to be achieved.
GP LIECHTENSTEIN | PT | Classic
The startlist should be strong and we would not expect a huge result from our our leader Jack Haig anyway: it's mostly about the experience for him to lead the squad in a tough mountain race. The young gun has his first maxed season and so there's no pressure to deliver a top result in this classic. Of course a Top-20 finish would be appreciated, but since this is his first race of the year, it's rather a preparation race for his first stage races of the season.
Trent Lowe and Dion Smith as our next best climbers. Really no expectations here, except of someone to maybe join the early break and showing our colours.
AMSTEL GOLD RACE | PT | Classic
After two rather disappointing stage races (P-N and Pais Vasco), Jack Bobridge surely has to bounce back in the Ardennes classics. Our captain has no stage-win yet this season and missing the Top-5 in both key stage races now puts some pressure on him to show he was worth the intensive off-season training. Kicking off the Ardennes classics with a Top-5 or maybe podium at the Amstel Gold Race would be fantastic, but of course we should not expect him to be amongst the most consistent puncheurs in those classics. Anyway, he's definitely amongst the contenders for huge results.
Vanspeybrouck and Haas as our best domestiques. Both did not really deliver too many notable backup results behind our leaders so far, but maybe this will change at some point.

Still a very nice race for Morton, according to his stats and catalysed by the great idea to plan him to the Giro. Solid job, and the expected white jersey.

The only thing really missing is that stage win but it's still a very successful Giro nonetheless. Keep it up!

Thanks, guys! Definitely a great GT result, yes. Still hurts to have not grabbed a stage, but I guess we've been lucky enough with the startlist
RACE RESULTS| APRIL 2017

Morton attacking in S8 of the Giro: eventually finishing 3rd on the stage and moving up to 2nd in the GC..
Another 3rd place on S11, but dropping to 3rd in the GC with Velits gaining three minutes on Morton this day..
3rd in S19 - the mountain TT: Velits and Alacorn finished better and so..
..Morton had to settle for 3rd and the U25 win in the GC! A great result for him and Jayco's best GT result ever.
RACE PREVIEWS | MAY 2017
FLECHE WALLONE | PT | Classic
The Ardennes triple ain't possible anymore, as Jack Bobridge rode to an anonymous 11th place in the Amstel Gold Race. Definitely not his favorite race on the schedule, but we now need some more attacking from our captain. His season has been solid - at best. His disappointing results in P-N and Pais Vasco haven't been forgotten and he definitely needs to step up his game in the hilly classics. A great start into the month would be appreciated and Bobridge is obviously our only hope for a notable result here.
LIEGE - BASTOGNE - LIEGE | PTM | Classic
The same goes for L-B-L, where we have a Top-3 goal. To put some pressure on Bobridge. It may all come down to daily form. Stamina will be an issue again, but our sponsors wanted us to finish high in a Monument. It won't be easy, that's a given. Lachlan Morton will be there to support Bobridge. Something that partly did work in Badaling, even though both did not ride to overwhelming results, to be honest.
VUELTA A ESPANA | GT | 21 Stages
After finishing 3rd with Lachlan Morton in the Giro, we're looking forward to what Jack Haig can do in our second GT this year. Obviously, there's no real pressure to deliver a great result, but with his combination of climbing and timetrialling, he should be capable of at least finishing somewhere in the Top-20. And if he's far down the GC, we want to see some attacks for breakaway wins.
We did not bring our premium TTT setup, but the team should be amongst the more promising teams for the opening TTT. A 12km timetrial will probably favor the daily form over the pure skills against the clock, but with five riders being 77 in TT (and no one worse than 72), it has to be a target stage here. With Brendan Canty and Trent Lowe there's actually some minor mountain depth as well, so we would at least hope for Lowe to show himself in some breakaways later on. And Canty will hopefully finish the race after his crash in the Giro.

ANALYZING#1 | JACK BOBRIDGE
Jack Bobridge. Our captain. Our leader. The guy, we were so happy about, when we signed him in our first season back in 2012. Our most consistent and outstanding scorer from the very first year of our project. Our inspiration. Our motivation. The guy, who we rely on. The guy, we trust in.
So why analyze someone, who's untouchable?
Because it's time to question his 2017 performances so far!
| Ardennes Classics | | | 2015 (80)* | 2016 (82) | 2017 (83) | | Amstel Gold Race | | | 14 | 8 | 11 | | Fleche Wallone | | | 13 | 7 | 7 | | Liege- Bastogne - Liege | | | 7 | 30 | 8 | | Hilly Stage Races | | | | | | | Tirreno-Adriatico | | | - | 8 | - | | Paris-Nice | | | 6 | - | 6 | | Vuelta al Pais Vasco | | | 13 | 4 | 6 | | Tour of Tasmania | | | 3 | 2 | ? |
*Season (Hill stat)
It may sound harsh and yes, it may be unfair to release an article about someone, who saved us from relegation last year - thanks to a stunning ride in the Tour of Tasmania. But things ain't always fair. You better may wonder, if it's fair to spend heavy training, if you don't get a reward in return. Did we get such a reward?
Well, when looking at Bobridge's key events over the past three years, you may say: yeah, he's getting more consistent in 2017. Indeed, he is. But that's no spectacular news, when looking at the numbers he's putting up with his consistency.
The truth is: he has not become better since entering the ProTour with less strong climbing skills in 2015! His best result in this year's Ardennes classics: 7th at F-W. He did the same in LBL in our ProTour debut season. His two best results this year: 7-8 in FW and LBL. In 2016: 7-8 in FW and AGR. It's pretty obvious, that Bobridge has yet to get his things together in 2017.
The same truth comes in the key stage races: 6th at this year's Paris - Nice? He already did that in 2015. And his 8th place in last year's T-A at least came with a stage-win, something he's been far away from in this running season. 6th at this year's Pais Vasco? Well, his 4th place last year was certainly better.
Tasmania? Hard to imagine that he will improve here, to be honest. The logical result would be the "1" after going 3-2 (and grabbing a stage) in the past two years. But who would expect him to win a stage race after the season he's having so far? Of course you should never give up hope and it's part of our team's history, that we used to turn our luck around in Australian races late into a season. So despite some frustation in the team's office these days, there's still hope.
Hope. In Jack Bobridge. Our captain. Our leader. The guy, who used to be our fan's favorite for such a long time. The guy, who now has to prove, that he's not yet ready to give away "his" team to younger faces like Lachlan Morton or Jack Haig.

Nice win for Gunman always find it cool when riders who may not reach the top of the game get some MG history behind them and a stage win is certainly that!
With bobridge it's very hard to known what he's missing as really he should become a kind of trofimov guy without the mountains skills but it just doesn't seem to have clicked for him yet |

Thanks, jt! Agree about Gunman Bobridge.. it's the first frustrating season with him, so I probably should not complain. It always hurts to spend 2.3M of training cash for nothing worth though

RACE RESULTS| MAY 2017
| Fleche Wallone | PT | BOBRIDGE (7) | | Liege- Bastogne - Liege | PTM | BOBRIDGE (8) | | Goal: Top-3 | | HAAS (20) | | | | MORTON (28) | | Vuelta a Espana | PTM | HAIG (13) | | | | GUNMAN (Stage) | | | | HAIG (Stage) |
Bobridge finishing 8th at L-B-L, another goal (Top-3) missed. A mediocre Ardennes campaign for Jayco.
Gunman on his way to win S8 at the Vuelta. Our first individual stage-win in 2017, our second stage-win in a GT after Rhys Gillett took a stage at the Vuelta in 2015!
Jack Haig rode a strong timetrial in S17 of the Vuelta - finishing 5th on the stage, moving up to 15th in the GC..
Haig's breakaway attempt in S18 didn't survive until the end, but it made for some further improvement in the GC, going up to 14th..
Haig with his big win in S20, beating Brambilla from an early breakaway to move up to 13th in the GC and 3rd in the U25 classification. A huge day for Jayco!
RACE PREVIEWS | JUNE 2017
TOUR DE SUISSE | PT | 9 Stages
Two stage races for Jayco in this month and obviously, it's the Tour de Suisse, that will be the key event in June: with Lachlan Morton entering his third big stage race this year, our goal has to be a Top-10 in the GC. He did pretty well here last season, so his personal goal is a Top-5. Which should be hard to achieve though. With a 32km TTT as one of the key stages, we brought a good core of timetrial specialists:
Porte, Hepburn, Olman, O'Shea and Oram. Not our premium setup, but given the difficulties of TTTs these days, it may help Morton to finish with the group - just like he did at the Giro. Dyball and Canty will be his only helpers for the mountains. Dyball did quite a good job at the Giro and Canty comes with the experience of two consecutive GTs now (though crashing out of the Giro and also crashing at the Vuelta most recently).
After Morton's great 3rd at the Giro d'Italia, it would be nice to see him competitive again. Another disaster like in Tirreno - Adriatico earlier this season (crashes...) can't be accepted.
CRITERIUM DU DAUPHINE LIBERE | PT | 8 Stages
Jack Haig is coming off a great Vuelta a Espana (13th in the final GC, adding a stage-win and a 3rd place in the U25 classification) - our young stage racer will certainly enter his Tour de France preparation race with a big boost of motivation. The competition at the Dauphine should be fierce though and of course we can't expect another Top-15 in the GC or long range attacks for a stage-win.
The 52km ITT though should favor Haig over many other second-tier climbers. He did extraordinary well in the Vuelta's late timetrial and of course here's hoping, that he will repeat a similar strong performance here. The goal is to finish inside the Top-20 in the GC and to show our colors with some active racing here and then.
Saber will be here to possibly fight for results in the sprints. No big expectations though. Durbridge as our biggest hope for the ITT. He's not enjoying a good season so far and this would be a nice point to turn around and start delivering. Lowe, Smith and Salcone as Haig's main helpers and maybe adding some minor depth with a Top-50 in the GC. Wohler as a minor threat for the ITT and maybe breakaways in flat stages. Van der Haar with a free role to show himself in breakaways, too.

Loved Haig's stage win the Vuelta, he's turning nicely into a good stage racer. Should be nice to follow both him and Morton in the upcoming month, hopefully some good results awaits Jayco.

Thanks, tastasol! I certainly loved his stage-win as well and there will be another HQ post celebrating this achievement soon
I guess it will be hard to repeat such a nice result in the Dauphine and TdF later on, but maybe he tries and succeeds again. At least the Dauphine's ITT should suit him afterall. Morton, yes. Obviously a key race for our season, yet again. Anything but a Top-10 would be shocking, even though I don't know the startlist yet. I guess it will pretty much depend on how the TTT will go. If he hangs on like in the Giro, that would be fine. If he gets dropped and loses big minutes, things will be tricky.

Fantastic Vuelta you had with Haig taking that stage win and climbing to a very decent GC finish in the process, while Gunman hiperactivity in the first week brought you another stage win.
Won't comment on your TDF hopes, as i might be a little biased but i think Haig can get a better result in Dauphine than you think, while Morton might have a hard time in Suisse if your TTT setup can't give him a great advantage on the really hard competition he'll faced, with a lot of riders having been confirmed to be in Suisse like Schleck, Taaramae, Pluchkin, Amador, and probably riders like Alarcon, Dombrowski and Machado also with Dauphine having that monster TT, so the non-TTer climber will avoid that race, something that makes me wonder why riders like Pluchkin or Taaramae aren't in Dauphine...

@Aquarius: Well. It may sound weird, but my love for Haig goes so far, that I would welcome a strong TdS line-up if that leads to a higher chance for Haig to do well at the Dauphine but seriously, Morton has to be a Top-10 contender anyway. If the TTT does not do some serious damage ofc. Can't expect big points from those races, but if we have two solid GC results, I will be satisfied.
