Tour of Romandie Discussion

Gaps are just RIDICULOUS. There is no way a group that large should lose 2 minutes in a descent, and just 3km of climbing.

Still in for a good GC here, can't see anyone catching up with Nepo in the TT, and he should be able to get Valls, Lloyd, Olivier, Kwiatkowski maybe and Teklehaimanot on a really good day I feel. Top 5 still withing reach Smile

I'm sorry but there was something badly wrong with that stage because the hilly riders did better than the climbers on what should have been a pure MO stage. That's an absolute joke that 77rated climbers ride away from 79/80 rated climbers Angry

Evonik: great.
Gazelle: great.
Aegon: great.
Kenya: great.
Puma: shit.

Exactly what we wanted, a good stage result from a breakaway.

But how big was the gap between Talansky/Bjelkmark /Kwiatkoswki?
Saw him on the picture and in the report it said Bjelkmark got the same time as Talansky but in the result list he has the same time as Kwiatkoswki?

No big deal really, not like Bjelkmark would climb high in the GC anyway Pfft

The stage indeed was weird. Olivier obviously with a huge stage here for us despite his TT weakness he will definitely lose several spots again.

Now it`s really annoying that Olivier didn`t do anything on the hilly stage...

Feel sorry for SN here as Bibby should belong to the favourites. Instead he sucks a lot here.

LLS with yet another awesome performance. Thanks Roturn for a great gift Wink

I expected this stage to go very different from this version as those pure climbers should have done better but I obviously won't complain.

The GC is still open with the big danger coming from behind but LLS has every chance to win now.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Confusing stage to follow. Berhane was with the LLS group and then just disappears, despite stats-wise being the strongest amongst all those moves. Perhaps a stage where the report would have benefited from a little more information, and less km jumps?

But yes, Tekelehaimanot!!! Clearly the AI gave him the second in command role while setting Bibby to teammate, which is an odd decision, but he really stepped up here. So much better GC wise for him to be in that group than Berhane (though would have liked and expected Berhane to be with Talansky and Olivier at least), given the time trial. Of course even better if Bibby were there, but PCM is weird, and had given up on him after the hill stage. Two straight nonsensical stage race failures for Bibby.

From Tekle's position, Bibby could have pushed for the GC victory. As it, I guess 4th is most likely, which at least saves the race a little.

Great ride here from Kwiatek to move into the top 5 and save his race! Was a little worried after the hilly stage but he always seems to deliver.

With the nearest challengers being Oliver and Lloyd, and Valls and Nepom hopefully being a bit too far behind to overhaul him in a short TT he can keep in the top 5.

Couldn't have hoped for a better performance by Kangert! Grin

LLS is now favorite for the win, but if Kangert or Talansky has a really good day they might be able to challenge him. In any case, I now expect Kangert to achieve at least 3d in GC, which is awesome.

Nice stage win for the Blackfish. Congrats!

Yap, report hasn't been of my greatest. I agree, two more screens should have done the trick here. Still trying to improve Smile

Was fooled by the profile, too. Appeared like 100% mountain and turned out a more pro puncher stage... and Lloyd beats Bongiorno in the final by more than a minute.
Lesson learned: Don't overestimate sharks teeth and go to Wallis for next training camp.
Gratz to the smarter coaches!

Just checked.

Stage 4 was 0.39 so barely suited Hill more than M.
Stage 5 was 0.83 so still M stat was still dominant, as the stage rating would suggest.

Would have preferred 4 to be closer to 0 and 5 closer to 1, but didnt check that for this race, and besides, this was always a race where a good combo was going to be needed, so doesnt really matter.

Thanks for sorting things out. Results felt a little stranger than pre-stage exhaustion, daily form, fitness, aso. and (only) 0.83 gfM could mix up. Though I still wonder how PCM didn't rate it as a 1.0 mountain stage.

BOOM! Our talisman Beltran re-emerges from winter slumber, and suddenly even Talansky is energised! To be fair, the gaps here are not in line with what I'd expect from the 11 minute (far too big) group; I guess the AI does you a favour some days, and bite's back others. Think the strength in depth and numbers of the original breakaway group definitely made life difficult for the peleton 2nd half.

Fully expect the likes of LLS and Kangert to pass Talansky on GC in final hilly ITT as they are much more suited unless the yellow jersey gives Talansky a significant extra boost - if he manages to hold on to a podium that would be awesome. If Beltran can fend of some of the better TT's behind and maintain top 15, would also be good. Congrats to Lloyd on the stage victory - recall a couple of similar performances in the mountains last year as well.

Well, a top 10 GC would be great here! Tvetcov (was he with the lead group and then dropped?) has semi decent TT skills so I hope he can find the time to move up a place or two Smile

Karpets was disappointing in the end, but I never expected him to be the leader, shame though, could've done so much more...

Well, was that a mountain stage or a hilly one? Didnt expect Valls to lose the lead here and definetely not drop 7 places.. I Feel the frustration. Rest of the top climbers not doing well either except for Talan and Oli. Huge stage from Nutresa, congrats scorchio! Very weird to see LLS and Kwiatek perform again.. Riders like that + kangert are probably the optimal Pct riders.

If that's not a mountain stage, what is.

Pedraza's performance are leaving me scared for his big goal of the season.

Fun race! Glad to see we were at least active in the breakaways, even though I'm walking away empty handed once again. It looks like there is stout competition even at this level, because I sent a decent team and my guys were nowhere to be seen in the results.
