Van Poppel's positioning has been awful so far. Looks like he is not getting any help with positioning from the team.
Good to see Bloem in the top 3 in the KoM rankings. Hopefully it will be Champoussin chasing this in the last stages.

Some very good performances from Thiijssen in the last few days! He's been pretty consistent as seen by being 3rd in the Points. Long may it continue for the youngster

Wow, Wouters doing brilliant when given the chance. Great 2nd place by him!
Very happy to see Bol win that one. After all he was a rider I also really wanted this transfer season, but unfortunately we didn't have the funds when Jura went for him. Congratulations on the win, Fabianski! |

Getting absolutely murdered by the lead out curse here which sucks for our points scoring chances with Cullaigh both times closing to do a 1km sprint...
Good news is Carthy has stayed nice and safe and Dujardin leads the KOM early which is great for us in an otherwise poor start to this race...

Not much to say for us. Congrats to Jura on the GT stage win! Excited for the climbing to start.

Quiet race for us so far. A decent prologue from Larsen and then some good sprint stages, especially the 5th place now. Would have liked to see us be more present in the breaks, but hopefully that will turn around once we enter the stages with more hills and mountains.

 GRAND TOUR STAGE WIN!!
@red: Sorry for shamelessly copying, but this pretty much reflects my feelings right now as well
Bol was perfectly positioned for the second time in a row - and this time the big guns all were behind or ran out of steam early, so he mastered the competition! What a win, in what is only our 5th GT stage - obviously a win I was hoping for, but surely none I could realistically expect. Great job, Cees - wearing green coming on top of that (potentially for more than one day given what's up next) is an amazing bonus and already makes this GT a great success for us!
Thanks for the report, and sorry to the teams of the top sprinters - no clue what happened to all of them today ^^
And thanks for the congrats
@ember: Sorry for "stealing" him, but looks like you got your fair share as well

Very frustrated we refuse to try anything so far. Bring on the climbs.
Can't say I am not loving the first time GT stage winners so far though, love to see it

I guess we got hit by the GC leader bug twice. Once with Enger not caring to sprint and the other when we then can't go in the breakaway.
Hopefully we can start attacking in hilly/mountain stages, because we have a few solid non GC riders for that. If we are only an option for sprints then it's going to be a pretty boring race apart from that.

A very disappointing first showing there from Mas. He's a much better Puncheur and separately a much better climber than many who finished ahead of him. Hopefully he'll have opportunities to attack later on in the race! Only plus is seeing young Miquel in the breakaway

Champoussin completely giving up on a decent finish in the U25 (not U23 ) to protect Van Poppel's... GC? Make sure he makes it into the time limit? Who knows.
Dombrowski already showing everybody he is not letting this one slip from him.

Pretty good by Amezawa, though, must admit I hoped for even more on that stage pre race. Looked like it really went in favour of the true GC riders, which can be understood seeing how much climbing it was on the day in total. Hopefully he'll be even sharper as the race moves on and new "hilly" opportunities arises!
Congratulations on the win, DD! Dombrowski looks to be a man on a mission from early on here. |

Nice ride in the break by Battistella collecting quite some KoM points along the way. That's what i always hope from that kind of rider in the first week.
Foss very solid, Blums also kinda okay on the day (in a solid position to attack)

Well, not the best day for Galta, who now sits behind almost all of his competitors for the top 5. His acceleration was clearly lacking at the end when everyone else went up the road in the finale. I guess that tracks his skillset more than his random performances in Portugal and Tirreno.
At the end of the day though, we're still just talking about a handful of seconds, so I'll wait until tomorrow to really pass judgment on anything. Its encouraging that Gregaard and Eg were at least decently towards the front as well here. Hopefully they can help Galta and/or stay around for the minor GC placings throughout the race.
Contracts to Gazelle!

Thanks! A GT stage win is always great and it's also exactly what we needed to grab pink. Hope the jersey inspires Dombrowski to use stage 7 to build a bit of a margin to Haig ahead of the TT.
Let's continue this form Joseph!

Not worth spending much time on discussing our one day in pink, as sadly predictable, but stage 6 was rather kind to us!
THJ "only" has two allrounders ahead of him in the U25 now, with all strong climbers getting dropped in varying degrees of too early, although Ardila obviously can make up those 3-4 minutes rather easily depending on how the race goes.
There's a good shot at actually taking the jersey tomorrow though if we award Tobias at least a co-leadership for the stage.
Our permanently returning Zimmermann did pretty well to hold on for very long, while Zwiehoff got dropped earlier than expected but managed to limit his losses. Having three guys in decent contention is a good sign.
Additionally, riders like Fortunato and Egger lost enough time to theoretically be permitted into mountain breakaways as early as tomorrow already.
Congrats to Dombrowski!

Good of Vosekalns to lose time, will make getting in the break easier.
