Chavez and Bennett not a great start, but I still believe! Unfair on Tom to call him a Wiggins given he has beaten every top climber in the world (maybe not Bardet and a couple of others) in a summit finish and is clearly much more of a climber than Wiggins, even if he isn't as good as normal Froome in the mountains, still a stage racer in my view.
What the hell are you talking about? Wiggins won Tour de Romandie, Paris-Nice, Dauphiné, TDF, OL and WC in ITT, etc.
Ofc, unforgotten that win of the olympic mountain time trial in London 2012

Come on it's ridiculous to suggest Wiggins couldn't climb in 2012. Is Dumoulin more like-able, yes absolutely. Could Wiggins accelerate ever, no absolutely not (he worked with what he had which wasn't in any way dynamic), but he could clearly climb that year and team mates only get you so far, everyone is trying to hold the wheel...or not able to. There's no magic +10% drafting effect because the guy in front of you happens to be wearing the same jersey. Yes you get to call the shots re: pacing but that only goes so far.
In 2012 Wiggins could climb with most of the best and better than many of them on occasion, whether that was Nibali, Evans, Valverde or Pinot. Yes he was stronger in the TT and yes he is as morally bankrupt as the rest of them but he could climb well with zero ability to accelerate. As for that route it included less TT km's then was typical back in the day, where you would often get well over 100km of TT, often with a TTT or prologue plus 2 other ITT's. It's only been very modern times when ITT km's have been cut to ribbons because it's helped make things more exciting.
Anyway moving on, Dumoulin did good
Also I sort of semi agreed with Arberg so I'm certain to go to hell now, thanks.

Certainly Wiggins could climb mountains very well, but in my opinion (I didn't see any of his minor stage race wins, didn't watch cycling so much then) he's not as good as Dumoulin is at climbing. Not that he couldn't climb, and I'm certainly not saying that Dumoulin is a better climber because I like him more than Wiggins.

Was replying to a number of posts unspecifically and slightly drunkenly...anyway, I would certainly agree he is more of an all rounder, more dynamic, more likeable and, at this stage, more believable

He showed last year that he could deal with it, but if Dumoulin actually stays in pink throughout the whole race I think that stage 19 and 20 will weigh way too much on his legs..
To sum up the tweet, "The silent wear down... While everyone was resting Dumoulin only ate two hours after his race, due to post-race commitments"

It wasn't that easy for Viviani, losing the wheel of his train in the final two kms, and being able to pick Bora's train and then Mareczko "leading-out" the Italian. Though once he was sprinting he showed he's so superior to anyone else here

Viviani definitely best sprinter but also smartest, don't think he lost his train, I think he dropped off because he knew they had gone too early. |

Also, Rohan Dennis is the new race leader thanks to bonus in the intermediate sprints, and has become the 23rd rider in the history to be leader of the 3 GT

Have to say I added some irony spice on that post, because not even I believed in that possibility, just as I didn't think Dennis would take the lead in an intermediate sprint. |

Quite an unusual stage with multiple breaks, intermediates and pretty much a bunch sprint for the mountains jersey. Also mildly interesting that Poels lost 40 seconds somehow.

Poels had a crush/puncture right 5 kms before the finish
My team is already the disaster (yet it's still only 2nd stage). Kiry below expectations, Gibbons 7th so it's fine. |

Just watched the race now (guess weekends are also hard to watch live )
Well worth it tho as I got to be with El Pistolero himself
Anyway nice stage for a flat one.. KOM was awesome fight, Dennis and BMC in the intermediate were brutal.. And the finish very fast and technical.. Viviani with an expected win but left with a feeling Marezsckzsko could win one later
