Gallopin blitzed the final TT of Bessages, Paillot 2nd, Chavenal 3rd is good to see and you can all guess who was fourth. (Laporte :cool
Means of course that Gallopin wins the GC, Laporte 2nd due to time bonuses and Paillot 3rd. 
Laporte is definitely winning a tour stage this year.

I think you need to wait until he wins a sprint in a race that actually means anything before comments like that
29 years old and 1 GT stage win and possibly 2/3 other stage wins worth shouting about.
Good track rider, average road rider.
Maybe he can improve at Quickstep and use his momentum from his track success over the last few years to get some road results.

he started to get good results in last part of the past season, winning also two classics, the same year that team sky didn't give him a chance in any GT, a secon place in EC with a tricky sprint by Kristoff, and some wins in one week WT races with impressive powerfull sprint, the thing he was just missing I think was the team working for him, now with QS is another story, he looks aware of his potentiality, and manage situations with great personality...let see if I'm right this year that he will lead surely at Giro and maybe other top races (maybe MS? curious to see how they manage this)...
but yes, at his age he still won few races on road, but I think is more than a simple average road rider

clearly not the only one..season has not started yet. Elia has been amazing that far. Even yesterday..without that boxing into barriers. He would have got that one also.
Only sprinter who seems to be done is Kristoff.
We have underestimated Cav so many times..I wont dare to do it anymore.
Dagenkolb has never been flat sprinter.
Gaviria is amazing
Caleb is great
Even Gorilla started season very well
Kittel is best
Dylan Groenewegen new ace
Modolo, Bennet,..damn it will be fun year.
Sadly Riis don't like this guys ..no offence
p.s. I did not forgot Sagan. Man who can take green once again.
every year 1-2 promising guys will step up.
I like sprint stages and sprinters. These guys is just to crazy.

all right about your list, but talking in this week he is in top form and looks that just Groenwegen is in similar condition, during the whole year it will be a great battle about them, excited that seems there will be very struggle season in sprints

I'm surprised that the Dane Magnus Cort has woken up again. Had a pretty good ending of last season in China (vs Gaviria) and in Astana he might get some nice top races. Minali might be guy the non-sprinting team Astana rely on, but Cort could get some nice results this year with such a nice start.
Last sprint Minali and Cort couldn't decide who was the main man. This might be a problem onwards.
Mareczko has not stepped up yet. I thought he was going to step up this year. But early yet.
And what about Bouhanii and Coquard this year. One will never know what these guys can present.
Greipel still is alive, at least in the start of the season.
The sprinting year will be cool indeed. The old the new the young and the odd ones looks to be plenty and so we will see crazy sprints.

And the Manx Missile is back. AGAIN.
Hard to keep a good man down. 2017 was a mess, lets see how 2018 develop.
Lost Renshaw on the finsih but showed he knows how to pick up correct wheels in the finals. Kittel looked good with a very strong finish in the end, but this was Cavs.
Hope sprinting will give a lot of thrilling stuff for 2018. Adrenaline rush for sure.

He was always hampered at Sky, also because he focused on the track, now he gets support and is focusing 100% on the road. Viviani is just a tier below the best sprinters in the world like Kittel, Cav, Gaviria and whatever. Thats not really average. And he won the pretty hard Bretagne Classic (yes, the WT race) which is pretty selective, so he can get over obstacles as well when in shape. He will win stages in the Giro barring injuries, I assure you that..

Average was possibly too harsh a comment.
My point was you can't use a win in Dubai to show what a great sprinter he is when his past record on the road isn't great. Yes, he has the odd decent result here and there, but all sprinters do because there are so many sprint stages available.
But he is 29 and has 1 grand tour win and a small scattering of WT level wins. Caleb Ewan is 23 and has two GT stage wins already. How many GT wins do the Great or even good sprinters have?
He might push on at Quickstep. But there isn't really much evidence to support it up to this point.

AGAIN indeed. How many countless time we have underestimated that guy.
When he was decided to start at road races.. This guy is, useless, fat, legs just to short, power readings sucks, always first to be dropped at season camps.
Tough one , legend already 30 tour stages ,15 giro stages , etc. etc. |
