At least he did something this race...
And yes I'm going to complain about every single Serebriakov fuckup until he does something useful again

Matthews outside top 20 when the sprint starts and can't even see him on the rest of the pictures, yet he manage to finish 7th, so that's decent.
Feel very sorry for Novatek were in an important HC-race, their sovereign leader decides to take it easy. Let's hope Rodrigues can make up some ground in the mountains.
Thanks for the nice reports Roturn! |

Wow Nepomnyachsniy with a great result again. Closely missing out on the bonus second that would've moved him to the top of GC. He will wear the point jersey again though and this time as (shared) leader. He's the only sprinter that finished in the top5 in both stages and that with his stats, I'm impressed. Kiserlovski also much more aware than in the first stage finishing in the front part of the peloton, seems like he's ready for the mountain stage. A shame that Alizadeh lost much time on a flat stage, had hoped he could Zubeldia his way into the top 20 like he did at Tachira. Maybe the time loss means he can go for the break though. Great to see the Thai champ in the break, I'm only confused that he did not seem to care for the mountain points. |

Gonna be hard to get near 16 stage wins again like this. Thought Anthony had this one for sure, but next stage will be interesting. Come on bois!

6th for Santos it's good, but I feel that once again could have done better if it was better positioned it was still a good recovery.
Now let's see what Nazareth is able to do on the mountain, must be a good level to can dream with a good final classification

Forero actually well-positioned at the onset of the sprint for the first time in about 2 years. Not that it amounted to anything, mind. Could be worse though

What a close finish! Unlucky danny with Lavoine but congrats to dev with Aberasturi. Nice to see two teams I made jerseys for contesting the win

Not much for me to comment on, but I'm glad Cunego looks strong, finishing up front close to the other GC riders again

Top positions going to those who bought tickets for the Novatek train there.
Mansilla best of the rest, would have been interesting to see where he would have finished with a half-decent position, couldn't see him in the top 20/25 with less than 3 KM to go.
Awaiting the mountain stage with bated breath. |

Yep, 5 minutes to collect on the 2 hilly stages, which I see as highly unlikely. Even though the hills are 2 for 1, the strong Mountain stage set the field to be a lot harder. The hilly stages don't look to selective, so Top 10 is the goal here and a stage win would be nice
I was not happy to see both Berard and Feillu crash when it really counted and thus left Roche alone in the end. The climb was just too long and with Amador here that is worth gold. Thanks for the great report, hope that things will look better in the coming stages

Gotta admit I was hoping for better than this by Slagter especially, but since he is already so far back, I dont see any reason of him not being on the offensive the next few days.
What a show by Amador. Cunego and Ricco also off to a great start.

First disappointed, no one in the break.
But then strong 8th by Lövkvist, nice!
And Ludvigsson in at 20th is good as well.
Maybe Lövkvist can hold on to a great top 10 GC.
I'm going away for vacation tomorrow and to the next Sunday not sure how much I can go online here. Going out to hike up Swedens highest mountain, Kebnekaise at ca 2100m. Then over to Lofoten, Norway.
Cheers! |

Seems like I may finally have a quiet season indeed with Cunego being pretty strong, still depends on the hilly classics though with him, and I guess the 2 hilly stages here may give me a good indication. Am quite confident the ACC Cunego has over Ricco may aid him in passing the Cobra for second, and with some great luck we could still fight for our first GC win.

Amador wrecking them but Cunego and Cobra at least do very solid.. if you ignore the time gaps.

Pinot in 6th is better than I expected, so happy with that. Hopefully some time can be regained on Ji and Brenes in the hilly stages to get a top 5, but if nothing changes I won't complain. Yates could also move up - there's definitely a possibility of him taking the U25 jersey from Chamorro.
Disappointed to see Petit abandon, but with only one flat stage left it's not too bad. Makes us more likely to go in breaks, so may be beneficial. |

Love those ingame pics in this race. The roads look awesome!
Some huge gaps were created during the last 7 km of that climb. If that is a sign for the rest of the season then it might benefit pure climbers and harm the stronger time triallists among the stage racers (think Phinney)
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

That's quite a statement from Amador, just in his own class. Cool to see Ricco and Cunego follow closest considering their MG history, and the battle for second place overall should be intense now, assuming Amador should be safe for the win.
Kind of a disaster for Wiesenhof. Hopefully for them that was only a one off from Monsalve and not the level he will perform at through the whole season, as that could see their promotion hunt become slightly more complicated.
And thank you for a very nice report, roturn! |
