Thanks guys. With both Avelino and Costa in our line-up I see this breakaway win even more surprising than usual. Fabulous ride by Antunes there, but I'm afraid this might impair our GC chances...
Boswell being let go is quite difficult to understand indeed. Amex could be in for a stunning overall result, but imo everything is still up for grabs in the forthcoming stage.
Thanks for the great reports Froomie

My team got no chance the normal way, so why not join the breakaway that win?
I like being in some PCT-races, we got no chance of winning, but there is a strange pleasure in hoping to join the breakaway-lottery

This came rather surprising. And I don't particular like it.
Huge stage for Boswell. This could turn into a great race for him ..

I actually would be happy if Kelderman goes up to 6th.
I see him far below that at the moment.

Yeah not a fan of this outcome.
The gap from 1st to first group was way too big in comparison to the gaps behind...
When Kelderman gains 3min on Boom, Boom should at least gain that on Fiedler for example.
A bit unlucky to now end behind Fiedler, Vink and Reguigui which basically ruins my top10 here. Koren was expected after the prologue. |

btw in case that didn't become clear, I'm mad, not happy.
Though to be fair it could've indeed went worse, but this is just ridiculous in a goal race.

Well, a little disappointed... but with my team I guess that was always going to happen... Semple with 15th GC is not bad, points are points

Well in best case Thurau had followed Visconti`s move....and Boom make it another decent GC. Now I only have Boom and he is far off as shit puncheurs hang on and Thurau is finishing 3min behind Fiedler.
That said just a weird race and now I can only hope that Krieger sprints for nice result tomorrow. |

I just saw Vogt's performance. I really hope he was heavily involved in the chasing, otherwise he's indeed performing according to his 50k paycheck...
Felline should've made that chasing group too being among the best 10 puncheurs and not pacing on the climbs.

Awesome victory by LLS. I liked when my team was taking over the chasing duty and LLS was super strong on the final climb!
It looks as if my win goal will be failed but even that 3rd place would be happily accepted after that mediocre time trial. But the race is not finished yet. So many things can still happen on the speed bumps on the last stage so I won't "praise the day before the evening".
Aside of that, it was rather weird that the peleton decided to sit up when only so few guys were ahead. I was pretty sure that the attack came too late so I must be very happy about the AI here.
Now, I'm really looking forward to the next stage. Aside of the 4th stage this was the only one were I have hopes for a good stage result. Geschke could be someone who can handle the hills and the expected sprint finish well while Smukulis/Dzamastagic could go on for a late attack as well with that not completely easy finish...

Impressive ride from LLS, gratz knockout! With rather less riders attacking today, it would always be good news for the likes of Fiedler or Vink then.
Koren It's really nice to see him doing that well for Gazelle. He's a better rider for the PCT than PT, so I'm actually not too sad about delivering big time for a new team now.
Visconti Quite in a good early season shape, he is. I always liked his aggressive racing and today it paid off (again). Surely Oz's best at the moment. Now let's hope this tricky final stage won't f**k things up here. Visconti should have the allround skills to avoid any stupid drama, though you can never be sure with punctures and stuff. And hopefully Phelan holds on to the KoM. Would only be my second KoM victory ever, iirc.
Thanks for a thrilling report, FD. This fight with LLS coming closer and closer.. nice read!

Soo...
My best rider on stage 4 was 76th
At least we went in the break.
Nice win for you knockout, having an amazing start of the season!

Very good from Vink, but ditto bad from Levarlet... Hopeless season debut from him.

Mixed feelings in this stage, I am very pleased and surprised to see Fiedler hold a good place in the top 10 after this stage, but also a little frustrated to see that the yellow jersey from Fiedler should have prevented McEvoy of trying to fight for something decent.
Now for the final stage hope to avoid unpleasant surprises, although I think it will be another stage to finish with a winning break...
PS: I understand and I share your frustration Cio93

Well we choose not to comment on stage 3 until we saw the results of stage 4.
Background: Two transfer periods ago AMEX bid hard to acquire Ian Boswell, but we ran out of money. This past season we were successful in winning his services. Boswell was signed to be a long-term team leader for AMEX-Navigon and our American sponsors were waiting for him to produce.
When Ian jumped to the Stage 3 breakaway we were all surprised, what was Ian doing with the Queen stage the next day. If he did not get a solid lead over the GC contenders it would have been a huge blunder.
Well he got just over 1"15 on the top punchuers, but would he have the legs to stay with them after a long stage 3?
Well Boswell showed he is going to be the team leader we hoped for. He finished 6th on the stage and is sitting in 4th place on the GC rankings. It looks lioke his gamble has paid dividends. A long flat stage to survive, but the podium teams will be tasked with keeping any breakaways in check.
Boswell also has a 43 second lead in the U-23 category. Now all we have to do is get Nizzolo up into the sprint finish.
