Only 74 sign-ups? Come on gus, we usually get about 100! You can do better than that.
So I've now tinkered around with my team some more and I have Wiggins/Nibali. Then 2 more who can make the top 5/10, 4 who can make the top 20 and a sprinter. I might have another tinker with it. Lots of great budget stage racers here if you are willing to dig through the low-cost Wildcard options.

I originally went with Cataldo and Kruijswijk instead of Pirazzi of Betancur, but hopefully I've made the right decisions in the end

Been heavily tinkering this morning as well, any of these low-budget stage racers look a gamble. But like you I think I have 8 guys who could make the top 20 or even the top 15 on GC, along with the customary sprinter. Looking forward to the reveal later on in the day, will be interesting to compare budget riders

Wiggins
Nibali
Rabottini
Scarponi
Ferrari
Kiserlovski
Betancur
Aru
Santambrogio
Bar Wiggins and Ferrari, this is a team with riders I like, decided not going for a good placing, but just see how I can perform with these guys. I wanted to stick Henao or Kelderman here, but it was hard. Besides, I like Kiserlovski and Betancur too much right now to swap them for Wilco. |

Wiggins
Nibali
Pirazzi
Pozzovivo
Gavazzi
Betancur
Santambrogio
Nizzolo
Henao
Wiggins + Nibali will be a must to do well, I think. Went for two risky pick climbers though, hoping that Pozzovivo isn't bothered by the Trentino crash anymore and that Pirazzi will finally net a deserved stage win and perhaps also go for the KoM jersey.
Gavazzi and Nizzolo should bring enough points from the sprints to save me from losing too many places on the flat stages. I think the former is a good bet for a stage win as well, judging by what he has done earlier this season.

Wiggins
Nibali
Pozzovivo
Nimiec
Betancur
Santambrogio
Intxausti
Aru
Bouhanni
As I wanted Wiggins and Nibali I had to take out Hesjedal and Degenkolb. Also Meersman not doing the Giro let me stop any hilly sprint ambitions. So Bouhanni is the only one for the flat as I took Intxausti over Gavazzi as last men.
I wanted Henao in there as well but couldn`t find enough room for him. Nimiec, Intxausti and Aru are the questionmarks here. First two showed great form in Trentino and might take some surprising GC results even though Aru should mainly work for Nibali, while Niemiec could get a leader role when Scarponi isn`t showing something on the first mountain stage. |

Pretty similar to mine. The two climbers are definitely risky picks, and Pirazzi needs to be in the right breakaways to get a decent amount of points, I think.
Santambrogio and Nizzolo were "no-brainers". I'm not sure about Betancur, he has been in form for quite a while now, and he might end up working for Pozzovivo on a couple of stages where he can do well himself. Anyway, hopefully he has kept his good form.
I've Bouhanni instead of Gavazzi and Intxausti instead of Henao, though. I do believe Bouhanni will grab a stage win and several podiums before he pulls out. For Intxausti, I somehow think this is the year he'll get his "real" breakthrough in a GT. |

Here it is
Wiggins
Nibali
Pirazzi
Scarponi
Bouhanni
Locatelli
Santambrogio
Aru
Henao
I like Henao, Santa as decent GC bets with decent stage ambitions as well. Locatelli and Aru are real punts for GC, both are in because of Trentino form which can be misleading. Aru was brilliant there though and as we have seen with Santa, this could be revealing a breakthrough.
I was looking heavily at riders like Atapuma, Brambilla, Kelderman, Kiserlowski and Sarmiento. But then Scarponi came nagging back to me, I think he is set for a big last GC performance possibly even making the final podium (though I think Hesjedal will be around there too). Scarponi can be a danger on the hilly stuff too.
Pirazzi for me (and others) could be one of the revelations of the Giro and I felt has shown me more than riders like Rabottini.
Sprinters is a necessity, but I didn't feel two sprinters were worth it here. Cav will likely win at 3 of the five or six sprints stages we have, I thought Bouhanni may just be on the podium for most of them.

Okay so my team for this race:
Wiggins
Nibali
Scarponi
Majka
Bouhani
De Greef
Santambrogio
Brambilla
Intxausti
I made the change of De Greef instead of Atapuma just a few hours ago. I think atapuma will make the top 20 and could be a real revelation this year but on the other hand De Greef provides consistency and reliability, which are important here. De Greef will be somewhere from 18th-22nd I guarantee it. Also I tried to stick to only people who were leading their team or would have a bit of free reign to ride GC for themselves (like Brambilla, who hopefully won't have to work for Cavendish all race).

Hesjedal
Pozzovivo
Pirazzi

Betancur
Kiserlovski
Henao
Santambrogio
I just couldn't get myself to choose Wiggins...
Did some last-minute changes opting for Henao+Pozzovivo rather than Scarponi+Kelderman, thus breaking my strategy of ignoring Sky riders as always.

I thought the same about Scarponi. But then I went with Pozzovivo as I expected him to do better. His injury obviously has no impact as he did well in Eschborn. |
