2013 Tirreno Stage 4?
1 | FROOME Christopher | Sky Procycling | | | 2 | SANTAMBROGIO Mauro | Vini Fantini | | | 3 | NIBALI Vincenzo | Astana Pro Team | | |
I surely think he is capable of doing a Top 10 in this years Giro.
I wouldn't say surely. That was a while ago, and it was one stage. He's had no prior GT results other than finishing outside the Top 50 for as far back as I bothered looking.
He just came 2nd in Trentino, being 2nd best climber expect Nibali there. If he has the form, he will be there. The question is, can he hold it.
Really? I guess I should keep up with results more. I've always liked him, (even when he became a great sprinter in the old PCM's ) but I still dont know if he can Top 10. The field looks pretty strong.

Santambrogio has found a whole other level this year, that much has been clear in all mountain AND hilly stages he has ridden
Wouldn't suprise me if he'd top 5 out of nowhere. And even then he's still less suprising then Froome sicne 2011 |

A lot less surprising... 8th Il Lombardia, 6th Tour of Austria and some other results showed potential, but nothing promised a top 5 in Giro of course. |

He was probably one of the biggest Italian talents around '05-06. (Behind Nibali ofcourse). Never made it to the top but had some decent results before (last spring mainly.)

1 thread for a whole GT? Woah. This is gonna be flooded.
I'm hoping Ryder can pull something out again here of course.

IIRC only the Tour gets individual stage threads, though of course I could be wrong.
I am so excited for this GT. It has all the promise to be a great race, with some top GC riders and pure climbers as well as a great course. Also the Galibier in any race is a great thing - best climb ever.

Actually, we usually have one thread per week for the Giro.
Doesn't really matter though, at least according to me. If it clogs up too much, we can always rename this thread "Pre-race Giro thread" or something.

Nice preview Fickman, cant wait for the Giro to start, because i have a feeling that Sky train will be kicked in their ass by Astana.
My top 10:
1. Nibali
2. Scarponi
3. Hesjedal
4. Wiggins
5. Santambrogio
6. Basso
7. Evans
8. Henao
9. Niemec or Tiralongo or Aru
10. Pozzovivo or Betancur if Pozzo not healthy

Looks like it'll be clogged even before the Giro starts, so that's a good idea |

Negative as always I see
Doesn't really matter how many climbs there are, in most stages everyone that matters will still be together on the final climb, and on the stages where they do attack 100km from the finish, the TV isn't on yet and the commentators won't know anything about it by the time the TV is on they've regrouped (Giau 2008 anyone?)
Is anything I said false? And the amount of climbs sure does matter. First, because if there are no previous climbs, then for sure nothing will happen before the last one. Of course, having multiple climbs doesn't mean that there will be attacks from far out 100% sure, but at least opens the chance for that, and in general makes the race harder to control. And second, because even if nobody tries anything because they forgot their balls at the hotel room, multiple climbs mean more fatigue.
Dude, relax.
Inhale. Exhale. You're on edge lately.

I am very relaxed. Or rather I was when I posted that a couple of days ago.

Nibali v Wiggins for me. Nibali will have to put a lot of time into Wiggins in the mountains to overturn the probable TT deficit, something he didn't get close to doing at the Tour last year but then this isn't last year and it's not the Tour.
Looking forward to it, here's hoping for an exciting race. |

You are correct. From 1988. Henao is from 87.

Majka has been injured. As a result he switched his Giro goal from riding for GC to just "improve form for June and July"
