Well, they had 160km time to catch up if the climb dropped them.
Archbold doesn't really seem like a competitive sprinter in that field for me...maybe even a late attack from those two?

True, though Boudat is a decent enough climber anyway. Directvelo reported it as a sprint, but could have been. The break was caught late on in the race, so could have just been disorganised - Archbold was his team's leader after all here. |

Absolutely not. I guess he is far from happy when looking at the names that beat him. |

Swift continuing the sprinter to climber metamorphosis
Swift, Bongiorno and Kvasina attacked with round 10-12km to go and held off the chasers.

At least it was a hilly stage with a descent finish rather than a mountainous summit finish... not long to go though I'm sure
On a different note, this was the first race in Europe for the Movistar Colombia team (there's three of them actually, the Spanish one that we all know, Movistar Ecuador and Movistar Colombia, the latter two are regulars on the South American circuit), and I was quite excited by this as this meant the arrival in Europe of the great Óscar Soliz, whom you may have seen me raving about a while ago. But unfortunately he abandoned today, clearly the lack of proper mountains was a bit of a let down for him
Nevertheless I hope he, and the team will be back for another race in Europe at some point to unleash his true power

Criterium International starts today with a flat stage and a TT. Boudat, Van Stayen and Felline are probably favourites for the opening sprint stage, and most likely Jungels for the TT. |

Garmin takes their fist win of the season..only Lotto and FDJ remain, that should change soon with anything other than Pinot winning the queen stage as a surprise, should be his first GC win and in the current form it should be comfortable one.

What a solid (well much more than solid!) season from Felline so far! He never proved to be so good in the TTs, in fact he already got a podium at Besseges in a 12 kms time trial, only behind Jungels and Gallopin. He also got great results at Strade Bianche (8th), at Murcia and in 2 other early season French Classics. May this be his breakthrough season, after a disappointing jump in the WT last year?
