That's the most embarrasing piece of fail I've ever seen in anything that dares to call itself 'media'. Incredible.

Like I said, it's the Mail. It really doesn't count.

Please don't take that paper as typical British attitudes! Most people I've chatted to since loved the race and Vino has become a household name (at least for a day or so!)

I never said I did. Smile Embarrasing 'journalism' happens everywhere, and I just pointed out that was the biggest fail I've ever seen (yet).

It's just crappy journalism. It's similar to them printing "The president of Brazil no idea who he is, did this today"

Cycling is getting there here, but that headline has proved we've got a way to go yet!
There's no point slapping a schleck - Sean Kelly on "Who needs a slap"

Really pleased with my photos actually, so decided to upload a few. (12) Plenty more to come - not sure when though.

What an amazing win for Vino. He deserves it.

Excellent photo's the key move of Vino coming across with LL Sanchez and Albasini (is it?) was difficult to see on TV footage.

Looks like you found a decent uncrowded spot.

To many naive hypocrits posting about Vino.

According to many of the "intelligent" posters in here, Vino have bought all his races now.

What about most of your all time hero - Lance Armstrong ?
Allegedly he bought of the whole IOC during his career with several 100k USD transfers. Stop being naive and ruining every victory.

IOC are the most corrupt hypocrits of all time - ah maybe FIFA are more corrupt, however you get the point Wink

The elite are either almost equally doped, or in other words : Equally clean, therefore most of the recent victories have been fairly won, either with or without dope. Stop it - and enjoy it.

Once again i will emphasize my satisfaction of the last big crusader and personality won a huge race.

I thought UCI were a contender there, but maybe I'm over rating them.
And Vino didn't buy all his races, but he bought some of them. So, when something looks too big to be true, whether it's case or not, people are keen to think he bought that one too.

I'm almost sure my French spelling was better when I was 10 than Pineau's nowadays.
("Cycling didn't win a thing in Olympism today !", but more literally, he wrote "Cycling as not win a thing n Olympism to day !!!" )
Anyway, I had not read about it, but apparently, both former pro Philippe Gaumont and Andrei Kivilev's widow have accused Vino of paying Cofidis to ride for him during Paris-Nice 2003. Frown

Aquarius can you enlighten this subject a bit further?
- I know Kiviliev and Vino was good/best friends. I know you have seen the stage where Vino was on the podium with Kivilievs picture and cried.

ANd what is Pineaus problem here ?

Pineau's problem : he probably shares the opinion of most people in this thread about Vinokourov, hence his reaction... Difference is that Vino's fanboys can't pick at Pineau for not knowing or riding/meeting with Vino on a bike.

Cofidis was Kivilev's team. Vino was touched by his friend loss, I don't question his sincerity here. I can't really remember how the race unfold, but once Cofidis had tradically lost their leader, Vino probably thought that it would be a good tribute by him (or that it'd make him look good Pfft ), to win the race and go onto the podium with Kivi's picture, so he would have decided to pay Cofidis to help him.

No idea if it's true, but that sounds plausible.

I don't know how journalism works.. Here in Germany, Ullrich's "former rival" Vinokourov won.. How was he his former rival when they rode 5 years together and before 2000 Vinokourov wasn't even close to Ullrich and 2006.. Did they race against each other there, can't remember because Vino didn't the Giro for example..

Great photos SN, managed to make a focus shot on Uran like if you knew he would be a medalist. Somehow I like the photo of Cavendish in the peloton the most so far, with the shadows and light and the sharpness.

In 2003 they have been rivals. Wink
And maybe they just looked in the statistics to see that Ullrich won the Olympics in 2000 ahead of Vino, so he must have been his rival there.

Actually, that is Wiggins leading the peloton Wink

I found a spot where I was at the front. How it worked was that there was the road, then a few metres of slope that was cordoned off, then the bit where spectators could stand.

As the race went on, I moved further down the slope and closer to the road each lap - and none of the Volunteers nearby cared at all, which was great!

It looks to me like Albasini, LL Sanchez, and Valverde

Did any of them throw away their bottles after the feed zone, like they do in the Tour? Good chance of a freebie if so.

The best race I've seen this year. Attacking all the way. Fantastic. Good to see the brits losing it. Should be maximum 5-6 riders in WC aswell.
