The Vuelta is over and lots of points were collected in the last GT of the year.
Other big events recently were the two Canadian Classics, which will be combined in this overview as also the popular Tour of Britain.

What a Vuelta for us definitely the highlight of the season, not much besides it though which might or might not see climb a few positions.

Some of my 2016 underperformers started to score recently.

Haas in both Canadian Classics.
Hermans in Vuelta with a good 3rd week.
Scarponi showing his value once being the rare leader.

Gastauer, Van Asbroeck, Golas though continue to be far off their best.

Still a good last few races.

Ranking update will come next 1-2 days once CQ has updated their ranking post Vuelta.

trekbmc
Great for us with Yates and Cummings scoring massively, Drucker doing decently too! Grin

Definitely not a great period for my team, but admittedly I couldn't expect much neither, except from Poels in Britain, maybe, where I hoped he would aim at the GC. On the other hand he ran away with a stage win, so at least he scored.

Will be very interesting to see the points from all the races this period and how it affects the rankings. If my team still leads, it can't be by much compared to the previous update.

Ranking Update #22 - 11/09/2016

Again a longer span between two updates. We are going from Post-TdF to Post-Vuelta. Hence several additional races to Vuelta, Britain and Canada such as Utah, Burgos, Norway, Cyclassics, Fjords and smaller events.

Things getting a lot closer towards the final weeks of cycling in 2016. ember lost his comfortable lead and is now in danger to lose the 2016 title as trekbmc, TMM or even jseadog had incredible performances recently. Only ~100 points advantage which was about 700 post Tour.

At the bottom jihardy obviously struggles with his late team, while sgdanny, shonak, lakebeach, sutty and early season dominator NicoVirenque still struggle.

With all GTs finished and the season slowly coming to an end, more and more managers hope to reach their 2015 score. Only 4 though have made it yet with SN, trekbmc and NicoVirenque joining Ollfardh over the 100% line. Several more though are just under and should still make it easily while the second half might have picked the wrong guys.

In especially sgdanny with only half the 2015 score (Malori/Kiryienka) and the 2015 All Star Teams by TMM and Jseadog struggle even though those two still score on a high volume as they also have overperformers such as Ulissi, Izagirre or Planckaert.

Velits is already more than 1000% of his 2015 score and still you won`t have seen him a lot this year. His total points are mainly from finishing WT races, which is the main difference to 2015, where he didn`t even did this.

More outstanding are the top improvers while scoring big such as Pardilla, Kittel, Cancellara, Boasson Hagen, Sergio Henao and so on.

Also impressive to see some young riders in some kind of breakthrough season such as Bettiol, Enger or Moscon who also scored pretty well.

Not too good if you have several riders on that list. In especially on the upper half.

With all GTs finished, some stage racers surely wish themselves back into 2015. In especially Spilak, Landa, Intxausti, Pozzovivo or Hesjedal had awful 2016 stage races. Also Theuns or Guldhammer had hoped for more surely eventhough some results weren`t even that bad for them. 2015 might have been their high anyway.

Boeckmans and Malori for obvious reasons are high in the list.

Valls, König, Thomas, Peluchi, Taaramae, Rolland, T.Martin are other riders with a step back.

Froome is passing Sagan very late after he dominated this ranking almost the whole year. Pretty close though. Quintana and Valverde next up ahead of Van Avermaet in a huge season.

Bardet made the biggest step forward here while Rodriguez, Aru, Kwiatkowski made a huge step outside the top25 even! Same with Moreno, Gilbert or Uran.
Terpstra the new last being far off his best and even passed by "late season only" Degenkolb.

Hey that's a seriously really good update! We've never been so high. And that's even though my riders only scored 82% of their 2015 quota, which if Felline and Benoot, my two leaders, didn't get injured, would at least be 90% by now Pfft

Great stuff roturn.

If you have any idea how to continue in 2017, this would be of great help.

Obviously with some new managers, it would be needed to have some kind of new draft.

Though it could be a possibility to keep 1 or a few riders from this year. But then it would require a system, that still would be quite balanced between new and old managers.

Also with some riders such as Aru or Degenkolb being far off the top25 this year but have good chances to score big some kind of middle value from last 1-2-3 years might be better to cut the line for undraftable riders instead of just the 2016 top25 I guess. So some ideas here are also welcome.

Hesjedal only doing one GT, which he failed, and Sanchez dropping out of the Vuelta, can't help me much.

Thank you for the update, roturn!

Amazing weeks for trekbmc's team. I strongly doubt I can hold him off at the top as most of my riders haven't shown the kind of form his riders have the last few weeks. TMM isn't completely out of it neither, I would say, but he need a couple of big wins to be right up there.

Should be an interesting last part of the season, suspect I need Alaphilippe to kind of overperform if I'm going to stay at the top.

Shonak
Good weeks, cracking the 1k points but could have been way more had Gaviria bothered to show up at Vuelta.

On how to proceed: Hm, I'd definitely love to keep 1-2 guys on the squad, however those are not necessarily "first picks", so it'd be strange to sacrifice your first pick for them, which is very essential and actually isn't so much a "reward" or "keeping of the same guys" rather than it is just an auto first-pick. Maybe former team managers can just keep one or two riders on their squad, however those riders of course will be eliminated once they are too successful.

I definitely think that the average of the past 3 years should be used for calcuating the Top 25, that's a very good idea, and maybe even extend Top 25 to Top 30/35?

Glad to see that we're still quite high. Roux and Lagutin started performing quite well, but I'm afraid the best of the season is over for me now, I think I'll have to look down instead of up Frown

Not in favour of having people keep their riders. If you're attached to them then I think they should be willing to make some sacrifice for it instead of having an automatic advantage over new participants

Ranking Update #23 - 09/10/2016

Likely the penultimate ranking. Many big races took place recently such as Lombardia, Paris Tours, Paris Bourges, Münsterland and couple .1 events. Things surely have changed and seeing it was close between ember and trekbmc in the last update, let`s see who performed better this month. Or can TMM attack the top?

Trekbmc is the new leader but it`s still close as TMM had a similar strong performance.
And after a huge success also jseadog is in reach now.

alexkr had the best of all performances this month climbing into the first half.

Further down Shonak is leaving the bottom 3 due to Gaviria`s success in Tours as well.

3 OZrocker riders in the top4. Nicely done there!

Highest volume easily is Kittel in this improvement ranking but also Gaviria in his neo pro season or Bettiol and Moscon in the same are huge already.

Groenewegen a bit further down with his breakthrough year being in a similar CQ area as Kittel and Cancellara, which says enough.

That late in the year chances to fix this ranking are almost 0. Whoever is high in that list, had a shit season. Some are excused with injuries, others just weren`t in form for a long term of the season. And others just had a too good 2015 overperformance and couldn`t repeat such in 2016.

So what is still to come ahead of the final ranking? Will it stay exciting until the end? Probably yes seeing the small gap.

The World Championship ITT and RR event surely will see a good opportunity to score big.
Then startlists could still be decent in the Abu Dhabi Tour and Japan Cup. Also the Tour of Hainan could make small changes.

So stay tuned for the last weeks of the real cycling season.
