I know it's early but as a neutral spectator, I am not at all impressed with PCM 18's sprint AI so far.

Very dissapointing and passive racing. I know it’s early days and all, but I am yet to spot what all the fuzz is about in terms of switching. It certainly haven’t worked well during the first 4 stages of this race. 1 prologue, 2 flat stages and 1 hilly stage - at best one stage worked as good as PCM 15.

Tbh, this was one of the worst stages I've ever played in pcm 18 and it seems the game is cracking under performance pressure
Oh well, let's see what the rest of the stages have in store...

What a weird stage. I've honestly never seen anything like this in PCM18, must be a database thing

Nice sprint from Helme. Just too bad it meant nothing.

No breakaways which is not that good for us, since we haven't brought the most impressive of rosters. I think Wirtgen has an outside shot of a top 10 GC but his prologue was horrendous... At least we saw Cullaigh mix it up in one of the sprints which was good to see!

Results wise: I cannot complain about Eg losing zero time in the hills. That's a plus for us as it's his weakest discipline. Would have liked to see someone in the break by now, but that's no big deal.
AI wise: Really, really terrible so far. Perhaps PCM 18's AI is built too much around the user to work without their influence. In any case, if this is the standard AI we're gonna have, I'm gonna have to say no to switching.

Yeahhhhh...now I know what I'm missing out on if I wouldn't do a Sky train for the last 15km of every stage.

Not what we wanted from either squad, especially after getting involved in the chase. Let’s do some breakaways.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Great rides by Per and Novak. Good set up for the next stages. My GC favourite Gidich delivering is nice as well.
First time really good AI too. Riders dropped and coming back, a lot of riders in the mix, dynamic breakaway AI. Good to see after the disappointment at the start.

Wow, Cavagna keeping up so well on a hilly stage that was definitely on the tougher side was great to see.
That certainly gives me hope regarding his future and especially Demare's if we do switch to 18 eventually (one of the only things making me hope here regarding the AI).
Cosnefroy with a good ride to give Euskaltel something to cheer for as well.

Hopefully Dunbar will get a real chance to shine here next season because our performance here is horrible so far

Nice tactics but a massive disappointment to see Kanerva so weak in the end

Great showing from Gidich here. I doubt he can keep the GC lead until the end but it's nice to have the jersey for now. And tbh I kind of hope he doesn't win the race as it would probably be better for his development if he can ride again next season.
Hsu so far not great in the sprints but at least he shows our jersey there.
Thanks for the reports so far! |

A bit better AI there. Still too passive and unselective for my liking, but I can't complain as that helped Eg stay in the group. Also nice to see several guys from the same team getting in breaks, as that rarely happens in 15. Would have liked to see one of my guys get in a break though!
I just realized I kinda did a test of passive racing in PCM 18 with my BCL YouTube series, which I also rode as a spectator. iirc it had some weird passive AI too, but not nearly as bad as we've seen here, so maybe it's just the MG DB or random chance at play here.

Iirc no matter the version, Avenir startlists often had weird AI. Rick Zabel e.g. Rarely won when being easily best for years.
Too many low stats even for leaders.
From my experience with MG Db it was by far better than the Avenir AI. |

Surely there are startlists with similar strengths in normal PCM though? I'm not sure what the current matrix's look like, but I remember playing as a low level CT team in older PCM's, many 2.2 races had leaders in the 72-75 range if not lower without any noticeable hiccups.
