I thought Keough did a brilliant sprint to be fair Fading to third when coming from behind isn't to shabby

Ackkk. Bertilsson was in great position for most of that sprint and just never got a run going. Not even a top 10. Disappointing. If that continues, we're in deep trouble.

Awh, that's not the start I had hoped for. Still some GC potential though if Meyer performs better in the next stages. Hope to see a train at least! |

Settling in for a beautiful ToA story for the 2017 season. Race already of to a good start with reasonable TT AI for prologue, and a close sprint contest with many contenders on stage 1. Point scoring pretty dominated by CT teams on stage 1! .
As far as overall goes, after a close 2nd last season, I'm throwing my support behind Berhane to join the two-time winners club. Will also be watching whether or not Eritel get some return on the training investment lavished on their young sprint prospect, although failing on stage 1, stats look good to challenge on other stages.
As far as PCT relegation impact, Haute-Route and Ticos have really strong teams here, but even a dominating ToA delivers around 400 ranking points, which would still leave them miles behind safety unfortunately. Teams like Carlsberg are already safe even if only minimal return from ToA (so you can stop worrying bbl and just enjoy!).

Note to self, never read reports at 6:30am in the morning.

No sprinter as such, waiting for the gc stages before we get to see Haute Route hopefully to the fore and at the front of the race
Thanks for the reports roturn

A very interesting sprint pattern from my team - it seems like both Croket and Meyer are trying it on their own? Sounds good, but if both riders can't get a top 10, it's a waste of energy.
Waiting for the mountains to see if we can at least do something GC-wise now, thanks for the reports though roturn! |

One huge positive with Verona taking the GC lead, then a crushing blow with Warbasse. PCM likes to torture me, I guess.
Hopefully, this means Fraile is our outright GC leader and Warbasse can be either a top helper in the mountains or become a stage hunter in the mountains like he did in the Giro d'Italia last year.

#10! If only his manager was around to see history in the making
Tough one for Warbasse though.

Great work by Irvine in the break on stage 2, didn't quite have the legs to hold off the pack.
Good to see Maikin mix it with the sprinters, he will do well to break into a top 10 on the flat stages so roll on stage 7 for a first look at the mountains.
Congrats to the stage winners and thanks for the reports roturn.

Tough luck for Warbasse and Mre, hate to see a contender fall out so early in a race like this. The reports have been top notch so far though, thanks roturn! Very pleased with Aregger mixing it up and taking top-5's in the sprints. Also happy to see the CT teams taking points.

Really unfortunate to see Warbasse falling behind so early. It always hurts to see that. And this was a puncture, so not even something like crashes we could control. Tough luck. Stupid AI not to send the team back.
Anyway. that's more of what we want to see from Bertilsson. Again, he seemed to slip out of great position for no reason, but he recovered for a top 5. I'd love podiums instead, but beggars can't be choosers. Consistent top 5's will keep at least a few points coming in, and that's important.

#11!
Afewerki doing great though. Pretty sure this was the stage where JvH took a win two years ago?! Might be wrong. It's cool to see our former loanee sprinting to a nice result now. Meyer though disappointing, also Von Hoff not anywhere close to his great stage-win shape.

Ah, so close for Afewerki. Still a very nicely organised sprint by Hadi, and a big step forward from the previous sprints. And indeed, that was the stage of former triumphs for JVH.
Slightly concerned at how knackered my team is going to be, for supporting Berhane But it's more fun coming here with options for pretty much all the stages!

What a weird sprint. Looks like our team simply isn't strong enough, so I hope we will join a break or two in the future.
Chances for Simon tomorrow though, hype! |

And there we have the first real GC day.
Some surprises clearly.
Not sure how the difference between Garby and Berhane/Pinot was made. First had the worst position at the start but the fastest finish.
Guess he was lucky as the left side of the road was a lot more open and hence he had no issue with blocking.
That said, the other two didn`t look good in their animation and hence probably couldn`t even go that fast anyway. |
