Sooooo you're telling me Skujins on a good TTT team would've lost 4 minutes, and on a shit TTT team he actually gained on some puncheurs?

It's a psychological trick: Give him a good TTT team and he gets an excuse for losing plenty of time on his team mates. Give him a Tennis-Borussia-Berlin-shit TTT team to make it embarassing to lose contact and he'll try hard to stay with them.

Actually not bad. My team both not dropping Sagan and keeping him quite close to his competitors. Decent start.

PCM AI is just cruel, I can understand how many Generalli went full-out and lost their leader for the stage win, but some other teams really shouldn't of. Frown

Makes the provisional GC quite interesting though, perfect start for Trofimov, if he can get into the leader's jersey by having a small group with none of Generalli's top 5 in it at the end of tomorrow's stage, the leader's jersey bonus plus the TT could be enough to carry him home.

Spoiler
1. Pierre Rolland 34'39
2 Yuri Trofimov + 3"
3. Jack Bobridge + 17"
4. Edvald Boassen Hagen + 21"
5. Tanel Kangert + 21"
6. Mikhail Ignatiev + 37"
7. Ben Gastauer + 39"
8. Ion Izagirre + 39"
9. Peter Sagan + 43"
10. Jan Bakelants + 47"
11. Eduard Alexander Beltran + 55"
12. Tejay van Garderen + 56"
13. Francesco Ginanni + 1'05
14. Tom Skuijns + 1'09
15. Pello Bilbao + 1'43
16. Diego Ulissi + 1'52
17. Bruno Borges + 3'46

Didn't think a strong Kraftwerk team would gain many points so sent a really weak team and hoped for a bit of breakaway luck.

At first I was glad to have finished third in such a packed field.

Then I was gutted when saw our lord and saviour Bruno Borges had finished almost 4min down on the victors.

After that I came to realize he was never going to get a great result so having such a deficit can actually be beneficial.

So, all in all a nice result for us. Congratulations on an elusive victory matt. And thanks for the report Abish!

Evidently fortunate to have a reasonable TTT ride and also Gastauer amongst my final 5. The ITT will be a limiting factor still, but it sets us up nicely for a good GC ride nonetheless - Top 10 GC would be fine, hopefully some aggressive racing can lead to some stage results. And then if Konig and Goos can limit losses, they may be able to have reasonable GC placings too, post ITT.

Thanks for the opening report Abhishek, and to trek for compiling the leaders summary.

Along with Stage 2, I've also added the team standings for the Stage 1 TTT...

Sagan has become unbeatable it seems. If he, and Bewley continues to win every race they ride (except for when crashing), 2nd is the best we can fight for.

Congrats Roman. Inventing Sagan will be the key to finally winning the PT :-)

Sagan almost as annoying as in real life  Gratz Roman. Bakelants doing ok.

Crazy spring for Sagan. Great effort by Rolland to limit the losses, and I definitely like the composition of the front GC positions.

I have no idea why Sagan is so good but he's killing it!

Skujins disappointed me on this stage. Losing time on a stage like this on the top ten is bad. Really bad when considering that he'll lose plenty of time during the TT. Also the crash by Siskevicius sucks Sad

This is becoming very, very worrisome. Beltran is an absolute no show, which is kind of annoying. At least I hoped for some aggression, and seeing the riders trying their luck on that stage, there wasn't really any reason for Beltran to not at least try to join them.

Dyrnes crashing out of the race is also very bad news. Do you know if he was part of the big crash involving Cornu, Mohoric and others, or did he go down later on his own, AbhishekLFC?

Hopefully we can improve on that stage, eventhough I fear we will have to rely on breakaway luck to get anything from this race. Then the first step is to join them Pfft

And Sagan just continues to impress. Congratulations again, Roman!

I think that Sagan's OP can be explained by his monster downhill stat (in comparision with the other puncheurs). For me, downhill is key for a puncheur, and most of the top puncheur are in the 62-68 range, while Sagan has 78.

Moser seems to have the best cobbler (and also top3 sprinter) and the top puncheur this season. Big congrats to Roman for creating these two monsters!

He wasn't a part of the Cornu crash as I've mentioned every rider that was. He wasn't a part of any other two crashes that I reported either. If there was a late crash, I must have missed it!

I recently discovered that riders can abandon the race even if nothing has apparently happened to them. In one race i've reported (not posted yet) a rider suddenly gave up, and when watching the replay, he just pull out of the race without any crash

Yup, has happened to me too, even outside of MG.

All hope from yesterday crushed. Waeytens not doing what he should again, I'm starting to understand why he was left out of the preview. Stuyven down is ok, he'll have to jojn the break now, hoping he's not injured. Dall'Oste out is bad though, he's always up for an attack and some pointscoring.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

A lot of riders in crashes, feel sorry for all the managers involved. Lucikly we managed to stay clear. A quite decent stage by Boasson Hagen. Hoped for better, but hopefully he'll have better days.

Watson impressing hugely, and suddenly with a huge lead in the U25. Very nice to see, hopefully he can hold on to that for a while. Congrats on yet another dominant display from Sagan, Roman Smile
