Very pleased by the Bhoys here. McCarthy going in the break was a bit weird, but also nice to see, Bennett also having a good ride on the day, shame he faded towards the end. Shaw coming so close to the polka dot jersey is nice too, shame he couldn't get it in the end, whereas McCarthys activity on that stage was commendable too. Also congrats to Roche on his great ride, he can expect a phone call in the off season.

I think Hagen remaign the favourite after the good hilly stage.
Will be really close for the podium, rest of top 5-10 basically. Only thing that would massively surprise if Hagen was to finish outside the podium in the end.

Hooray for Patrick Lane. He's on a constant roll since August, but carrying off our first Pro Tour jersey win was beyond imagination.
No doubt the TT will make us pay our tribute, even so the race is already a success.

Gastauer has been amazing in stage races this season, and he kept it up again. A great and much needed performance, with stage ranking points so important.
He lost 4 minutes on Coppel over 28km in the TONE ITT, so still every chance of ending behind Coppel on GC here and seeing Festina close the gap. Will be counting on others to stay ahead of Coppel on GC instead - a Bobridge GC win for Oz in Australia would be quite cool to see.
@Oleg: No time bonuses in TTs.

Okay result, but Froome must be the only 82 hill rider with no noticeable result this year, 10th around the best he can do..
Massive ride by Tejay, Movistar in prime position for amazing escape!
Awesome ride by EBH, good for him to deliver after bit of patchy streak.

That's an alright performance from Schumacher, hopefully he can grab a spot in the top 5 in the TT. It looks like Movistar took a big step to avoid relegation here.
Of course its nice to see EBH take a win as well.

Well, nothing to see for Howson there, that's for sure.
Unexpected result (have we had any expected results in TTs this year? ) in the TT, but great to see ember, Aker-MOT and especially Boasson Hagen take the GC here. Also especially since ember has been talking him down for ages now
Great reports, trekbmc

As expected and that should be good enough.
Bring on the epic finale! It's been fun either way.

Wow, that's really sensational stuff from Boasson Hagen. I'll happily take it!
Thank you for your congratulations, tastasol and wackojackohighcliffe.
And suddenly we're probably in the driving seat for 4th overall in the Pro Tour this season, as I suspect Boasson Hagen's scoring here will make us pass Metinvest in addition to Good Energy. Then it's just about avoiding a failure in Lombardia.
Looking at the title fight, that underperformance from Coppel should leave no doubts, congratulations on the title, SN!
Movistar with a some solid points as well, considering the battle to avoid relegation, and it looks like it's now between Bacardi and Volkswagen, where the latter probably passed Bacardi with this performance, looking at the GC and Zabel's second place. That one should go all the way to the finish line in Lombardia, though!
Thank you for a nice TT report, trekbmc! |

*scratches head* well, how did that happen? Only 17 seconds between Coppel and Gastauer .. from a 17 TT stat difference.
Well, this is probably the best season Gastauer will ever have, so gotta make the most of it!
Trofimov beasts the TT and yet, he didn't even get picked to ride the Worlds ITT for Russia.
Thanks trek for the reports and a fast rankings file.
- Vesuvio with a good lead now heading to Lombardia
- Aker up to 4th, where they will most likely finish
- Red Bull into the Top 10 and Oz up to 11th, as 1t4i slip down
- Huge race for Movistar as they now go 111 points into safety
- VolksWagen and Bacardi will need a big Lombardia result now
- Ayubowan close the gap to Meiji to 30
- Meiji still have 2 races left, as the only PT team at the Japan Cup

Ahem, I thought for a moment it was only four teams going down, that's why I imagined it being a fight between Bacardi and Volkswagen, but of course they're currently both in the relegation zone
And admittedly it doesn't look good at all for both of them, seeing TVG did what most likely was needed in Tasmania, and it's difficult to see him not score some decent points in the final monument as well.
The gap down to Good Energy grew bigger than I thought it would, which I think makes us safe in the top 5 and most likely keep 4th place, if Metinvest don't do something truly special in Lombardia. |

Thanks for the reports trek and the standings update SN.
Pleased with that really - it could have been better had skiddypants not dropped his pants on stage 1 but I cannot complain too loudly. Coppel producing a real shocker of a chrono there.
Squeezing above Bouygues is nice - I can take my position as top of the shit heap and lets face it with Oz Cycling and Pendletons up there it lives up to its name
Vesuvio getting a bit lucky there with Gassypants, good punchy men always good for this run in. TvG certainly saving Movistar and dooming Heine's VW team.
Pendletons definately to go down next year I call it now
