Thanks all! I also like the finish-screen. Smile

A small note: Difficulty adjusted from extreme to edited extreme now. Hopefully this will make it harder for us to win races. Wink

Liège-Bastogne-Liège or "La Doyenne" as it's also known as is the oldest and most prestigious of the three Ardennes Classics. The first edition was held all the way back in 1892 and has gotten more and more popular every year. It's now one of the five monuments, the biggest races you can win as a classics specialist.

Real life result:
1Philippe GilbertOmegaPharma - Lotto6h13'18
2Fränk SchleckLeopard Treks.t.
3Andy SchleckLeopard Treks.t.
4Roman KreuzigerPro Team Astana+ 24
5Rigoberto UránSky ProCyclings.t.
6Chris Anker SörensenSaxoBank - SunGards.t.
7Greg Van AvermaetBMC Racing Team+ 27
8Vincenzo NibaliLiquigas - Cannondale+ 29
9Björn LeukemansVacansoleil - DCM+ 39
10Samuel SánchezEuskaltel - Euskadis.t.

Gilbert completed his Ardennes triple by easily outsprinting the Schleck brothers at the finish. Andy Schleck instigated the decisive move by attacking up the Roche-aux-Faucons, dragging Gilbert and his elder brother with him. The others were never able to chase them back and had to race for 4th place, which was taken by Roman Kreuziger.

Skil squad:
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_2.png
After showing great form and strength in Llodio, Sprick will now get the chance to lead us in a bigger race as well. Docker's form is starting to decrease a bit, so he'll be a luxury team mate for his French team mate together with De Kort and Curvers. We'll see how it works.

* Sánchez, Horner, Hesjedal, Kiryienka, Gesink

Kreuziger might have beaten Gilbert twice now, and both times on Gilbert's terrain, but I get the feeling that the Belgian has especially targeted a victory here and I don't think he'll be denied this time. In the battle for the last podium place I think it'll be a battle between Evans, Schleck and Rodriguez.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_1.png
Not as many hills as Amstel Gold Race, but it's still quite a lot of them. Also, most of them are quite hard, with a little bit of length and also a high gradient. The action is expected to begin on la Redoute, continue over Roche-aux-Faucons and Saint-Nicolas before the race is decided on the final uphill to the finish line in Ans.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_3.jpg
A very strong early breakaway was surprisingly allowed to go a little while into the race. The ridders were: Van Avermaet (BMC), Stannard (Sky), Roy (FDJ), Peterson (Garmin) and Commeyne (Landbouw). Later they got another companion in the shape of Nicki Sörensen (Saxo).

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_4.jpg
Later in the race we got a similar kind of breakaway that succeeded in FW, with Simon Gerrans (Sky) and Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel) escaping from the rest of the field. Surprisingly no reaction.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_5.jpg
The two late upcomers quite quickly got rid of everyone from the early breakaway except Van Avermaet and Sörensen, forming a strong leading group.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_6.jpg
After an actionless climb of the Redoute, we got the first attacks up the Roche-aux-Faucons, as Wout Poels (Vacansoleil) decided to set off together with Chris Horner (Radioshack).

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_7.jpg
It was all back together in the descent, and a group of 17 passed under the 10km-to-go banner, with the leading group still ahead by a small margin. Sprick managed to stay in the group over the ROF, but was now isolated and very tired.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_8.jpg
A superhard pace up the Saint-Nicolas was just too much for Sprick and at the top he couldn't resist anymore and lost a few metres. Unfortunately he wasn't able to close them and had to chase solo now.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_9.jpg
A moment of chaos in the front group as a wet turn caused Poels to crash in the final turn. What a shame for him and Vacansoleil after riding so well.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_10.jpg
The chaos caused by the crash allowed Kreuziger to escape with a sneaky move in the final two kilometres. OmegaPharma and Liquigas soon realised this and sent up Vanendert and Sagan to close the gap.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_11.jpg
Rodriguez took charge as the final climb kicked up in gradient and quickly reduced Kreuziger's gap by quite a lot. Behind him he had Gilbert and Evans, both waiting to pounce.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_12.jpg
Rodriguez's early acceleration brought back Kreuziger and gave Gilbert a perfect leadout. Just before the final turn he jumped out of Purito's wheel and up alongside Kreuziger. Any energy left in the Amstel champion's legs?

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_13.png
Not enough to stop Gilbert from repeating his real life win at least. None of the other favourites could. This was more like the Gilbert we had expected to see in Amstel and Flèche as well, but it's nice to see him back. Rodriguez also came around Kreuziger in the end to take second, while a photofinish against Evans gave the final podium place to a fading Kreuziger.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/lbl_14.jpg
Two minutes later, an empty Sprick crossed the line in 19th place. Not too bad actually, if you consider that he beated riders with much higher hill stat than him.

Kreuziger did very well again.. bad luck for Poels, and yes, I totally agree with you, that a 19th place isn't bad at all! Especially with an extreme+ Wink Well done, and again some nice screens in there.

you must be probably the most skilled PCM player on this site Smile

regarding to "extra extreme" difficulty, maybe using of default training schedules only (as AI does) could make things a little harder for you better than pure lowering of all attributes of your riders? (I know, it would be possible from next season...)

Tour de Romandie is often raced a bit in the shadow of the just ended Ardennes Classics and the soon starting Giro, and therefore loses a bit of it's status. It's still a WorldTour race though, and I'm sure the home riders would look at a win here as a big result. Famous historical winners include Steven Roche, Tony Rominger and Dario Frigo.

A successful breakaway on stage two placed the yellow jersey on the shoulders of Pavel Brutt, who managed to keep it to the long timetrial, where Cadel Evans overtook it and secured overall glory. The strongest one on the harder stages was probably Damiano Cunego, but his incapability in timetrials caused him to lose everything in the timetrial.

Skil squad:

We have no real plan here, and will be trying to do something out of a breakaway. Sprick, Doi and Fröhlinger are the ones we're hoping to score us at least a decent result on a stage or two.

A pretty strong startlist with many big names such as Contador, Fränk Schleck and Wiggins. Though the only one we know is in decent shape is the Luxemburger, who's fresh off a quite okay Ardennes season. We still don't know if any of these are planning to race the Giro, so it'll be interesting to see who's in shape and who's not.

Stage 1: Martigny (ITT)
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_1.png
The race kicks off with a very short prologue. No big time gaps are expected over the meager three kilometres, but a good start is always good for the confidence. It'll also be very interesting to see how the pre-race favourites do.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_1_2.png
Leopard proved their strength out on the course today by taking a double win through a very superior Cancellara and a surprisingly strong Posthuma. AG2R's Peraud rounded off the podium, while big favourite Contador showed signs of great form by finishing 4th. We had a lesser good day, and no riders in the Top 100.

Stage 2: Martigny - Leysin
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_2.png
Stage two provides the only "mountain" top finish in the race. However, it's not a super hard stage anyway, and it's even classified as hilly. The final climb up to the ski resort of Leysin isn't the hardest, but it's surely hard enough to create gaps.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_2_1.jpg
Twelve riders in the early breakaway today. As promised a Skil rider in it, Curvers. He did a great job and collected the two first KoM sprints, putting himself in virtual KoM lead. Other notable names in the escape group were Steegmans, Sicard and Feillu.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_2_2.jpg
In the peloton Leopard and HTC were doing most of the work. Even second placed overall and points leader Posthuma had to help.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_2_3.jpg
Up the final climb we got a lot of attacks. The most interesting one came from pre-race favourite Contador, who launched a very strong attack halfway up the climb.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_2_4.jpg
But none of the attacks were strong enough to reach the breakaway in time and Lars-Petter Nordhaug managed to just hold off the closing favourites, led by Nicolas Roche and Fränk Schleck. Curvers had great legs today and could have challenged Nordhaug, but he missed to sprint at the last intermediate and lost contact with his companions. Angry

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_2_5.jpg
He still managed to pull most of them back and saved a Top 10 spot, while his team mate Sprick finished just behind him, together with Contador. A pretty good day for us, except for the intermediate shit.

Both Curvers and Sprick are around a minute back, who are you going to put your faith in for the rest of the raceFrown

"Intermediate shit" Smile Well said..

..nice stage for Skil though.. Sprick was not too far behind some favourites, finsihed in same group with Contador and Curvers inside Top-10! Nice.

Thanks. It's so frustrating to lose the chance of a stage win just because of a fucked up intermediate sprint. Good news was that Sprick had great legs and should be able to do well in the coming hilly stages.

Stage 3: Romont - Romont
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_3.png
Another hilly stage, but with a far easier finish than yesterday. Still an uphill ending the stage though, with the last kilometer being so. Not my favourite stage though, as that uphill is on a narrow road, which I really dislike. We'll try to stay in position near the finish.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_3_1.jpg
After a suicide pace up the big climb of the day from his team mates, Fränk Schleck decided to have a little dig just after the top of the same climb. Nobody seemed to have the power to follow him, so he created a gap immediately.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_3_2.jpg
And that gap proved to be enough for the Luxembourgian champion, who managed to just hold off the peloton led by Nicki Sörensen and Johann Tschopp in the final uphill to claim a nice stage win and also the race lead.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/rom_3_3.jpg
Sprick just missed the Top 10, but showed that yesterday's strong performance wasn't a fluke. He also moves up to 12th overall thanks to this performance, just three seconds from the Top 10. The day's big loser was yesterday's runner-up Nicolas Roche, who lots big time today because of a badly timed puncture.

Sprick is performing well, I think he'll manage some even better results on the coming stages. Btw, I like your reports, they're short and objective and make it for a pleasant reading.

Oh, and what do you mean 'fucked up intermediate sprint'? I didn't get it very well =P
