They are stopping support of IE, but Microsoft is replacing it with this new thing (can't remember the name) that's supposed to be better. Shame it took IE right up to the end of its life cycle to get competitive with Chrome or Firefox, it was becoming a good little browser.
TBH i can never find that much difference between browsers. Layouts are near enough identical, and performance is marginally different. Use whatever you like, it's not a contest especially as they are all free-to-use!

I hate to fall in the german stereotype, but there's so much wrong in this post...

IE is still no-where near Firefox and Chrome. It isn't even as good as Opera. Maybe as good as Safari, but thats debatable. Also, it's not really about the speed, since the only real difference occurs on Youtube or at playing Browser Games. So if you're not doing this stuff too often, speed isn't that important. Also it's not down to layout. I like Chrome's layout the most, but different persons prefer different layouts. So that's not a point either.
The big point is "Security". Firefox is fine, Chrome is fine as well, but it has "Google" tracking every step(ever wondered, why Chrome is almost 600MB, while Firefox is only 90MB?), while IE simply is a giant magnet for viruses, maleware, and other problems. It's no wonder, you can read about security holes of IE every few days.
Comstar(mostly known to rFactor guys) is a programmer, so I mainly got information from him. I can quote him here: "Every person, who still uses IE, is either a 40+ year old guy, who would also try to print YouTube videos, an idiot or an american. The last 2 mostly go hand in hand. "I am just to lazy to download another browser..." is NO valid excuse."

I kinda need to defend him here. The reason, we mostly make fun about americans is simply because, lets face it, guys like Donald Trump have a legit chance to get elected as president. Also most of them still think, that the US won both world wars single-handedly.(germans love to disagree on this one, it seems Pfft)
Also mainly we hate america due to the recent stuff regarding TTIP, NSA, weapon laws, feminists....

If you've read everything until this point...get a life. Grin

Under 40, not an American, idiot I guess? I did read the whole post. Pfft I did download Firefox and chrome but didn't really use them.

Either way, I guess I should switch to Firefox...

Chrome is a memory hog because it spawns a process for every tab you open. This has some benefits, but also means large uses of memory. It has nothing to do with tracking.

The IE being insecure thing is nowadays a myth too (especially with IE 11). It got that reputation (probably deservedly) many years ago, and it's now stuck. Security wise, IE is now comparable to Firefox, with Chrome possibly ever so slightly ahead. Nowadays though, most vulnerabilities come from plugins, user stupidity, using XP etc, with the browsers doing a pretty fine job

I wasn't talking about the RAM usage of Chrome, but of the HDD space it needs.

Also Internet Explorer will always be a insecurity factor, because it's built into Windows, which means it's a main attraction for viruses. If they are into IE, they're into Windows.

Regarding the Chrome tracking...Chrome had a "security hole" which allowed Google to activate Microphone and Camera tracking, which was reported by "Tal Atar". Google rewarded him with their Chromium Reward Panel, but the "fix" of Google for that problem never made it into the release of Chrome.

I've never had a problem with IE. I've used Firefox and Chrome before and I don't like the layout of Chrome. I have never encountered and speed difference I can see and I like the layout of IE the best, so I use it. I don't see how this affects people like Paul. You can use any browser you want.

I've also never had a virus and I've been using IE my whole life, with only Windows Defender on for most of it, and it's never been a problem. I don't know what kind of shady sites other people are going on, but I've never had a problem.

Honestly, I'm the only one of my friends that uses IE, and my friends make fun of me for it sometimes. But then, most of them haven't even tried IE since IE8, so it's pretty stupid to be judging when you haven't even tried it. But you don't need to try it. Use whatever browser you like and just mind your own business. Last time I checked, none of us were hired by Microsoft or Google or Mozilla to endorse their products, so how about we let them compete about browsers instead of stupidly competing between ourselves?

It's kinda the same for me than it's for BBL. I feel like I cannot contribute on anything except graphics... and that's why those are my latest posts:

That's 20 posts in 14 days, which is not that much (or at least, I used to post much more in the past) and 19 posts in graphic threads, 6 on my own one.

That doesn't mean I don't login Daily, just that I feel I shouldn't say anything Wink

Well, it's just not this website that faces less activity in general. Pfft

This week, PCM-Portugal made 10 years of existence, so they held a "gala" to announce the winners of the awards for 2015. The admins of PCM-Portugal, Tozequio and Marco (who SN knows Pfft ), mentioned that, overall, communities aren't growing as before, and that new members aren't really showing up anymore (or at least, members who contribute), while old ones are, to a certain point, leaving. This is a recurrent phenomenon. Pfft

Because forums as whole are dying, in past they were the best method of people forming communities, but not anymore, see Reddit, twitter etc.

It's not Daily dying particularly, it's the whole concept of forum as it is now. Younger generation don't join forums nowdays as before when the forums were the only ways for communities to form.

[ Plus PCM being frankly dreadful, that's the main thing Pfft ]

We know it's not 2010 again, but well, we must adapt. Also, screw Reddit Pfft

Yeah, thats true less people are joining. We've only had 17k in over a year join I think, and the site has been around 9-10 or so years, so the join rate per year has gone down I guess.

For me, cycling as a sport is slowly dying, too.

So many races are becoming so boring. mountain stages in the Tour, flat stages.
Tune in for the last km and chance is 99% you get all the action.
Ardennes Classics are great example.

Compare that to the stories from Hinault, Merckx, Coppi and whatnot. It's not even the same sport anymore. The only constant is the bike. Everything else has changed.

Sure, you might say, but back then they did doping.
Well, pretty sure it's worse now and it's gotten more boring Pfft

PS it's even gotten so bad that PCM has implemented that boring-ness. In PCM 11 I started mountain stages halfway the race sometimes, attacking from far out.
PCM 15, that's almost impossible. So you have to wait for the final climb. It's so realistic! It's so... boring? Pfft not always. But that for me is a bad change to the game.

Come on, I think everyone's being a bit negative here..
First of all, forums like this aren't going to die. The flow of members may begin to dry up over the coming years, but more money can be made from ads than ever, meaning they should survive.
Also, in countries such as Germany and the UK, cycling's becoming a much bigger sport. Most of this is via participation, but the more successful cyclists from these countries there is the more interest in these cyclists there'll be. Therefore, logically, more active members will arrive.
Also, speaking of members, we do have 117,000! That is pretty big!
Disclaimer- Most of my posts are me thinking aloud. And most of what I think is rubbish.

Surely everyone can use, whatever software they want, but it's still non-debatable that IE is still far behind. I was just agruing on TMM, who said that IE was on par.
