Another great report to read roturn, thanks! Quite odd that two of the top 3 on the big mountain tt aren't even in the Top 10 - perhaps being secondary leaders for their team has meant they've used up less energy than what they are capable of.
Funny to see Suaza going so well. He hasn't been too visible off the front of the race so far, but is hopefully doing a good job behind the scenes - and clearly climbing well. If being up to 2nd overall means I know have to do more peloton relaying than breakaway joining, I'm in good shape to set a strong pace.
That first checkpoint was very telling, as soon as Schleck went top there while others struggled, I had a good feeling about the rest of the ride. It's been an incredible fight back, and this is looking like it could be the best race I've ever had in the MG. The odds seem good that he will take at least one jersey out of this race.
I do want to see Pluchkin win a GT sooner rather than later, I just don't think I want it to be this one Taaramae also continuing to impress after that Dauphine performance.
I half expect Schleck to take Yellow on Stage 19, to make it seem like the comeback is complete - and then lose it on Stage 20. But with his recovery looking strong, I guess his rivals might have to hope for bad luck or bad form of the day from now on.

I called it on stage 13 and i still think it's going to be Schleck though, he's been in this situation in real life before and struggled let's see if his man-game self is better at finishing the job. |

Spoiler 10th place, good MTT by Kritskiy (11th now in GC), top-10 in Paris is still possible, but thanks to yesterdays crash Kritskiy is still 12 seconds behind Uran. Also Kolesnikov is fighting for the GC, he is aiming for top-20 (or stage win).
I think both U25 (Phinney) and Best Team (Santander) are final, both Points and Mountain Rankings are still an open battle, but most importantly: We have some very close battles in the General Rankings to look forward to:

Thanks, Oleg <3
As SN said, will be interesting to see, what happens if Schleck takes the GC-lead in next stage. Might be better to attack on the second crucial stage. That said, another strong attack on next stage could already lead to a nice gap. Epic Tour so far, thanks again for the reports! Really great read.

This Tour has really been great throughout, and the battle for the win now is exciting, I certainly would not have picked Schleck to win at the beginning, especially after his slow start. I don't know how Phinney is beating Amador in so many of the mountain stages, and recently Rein has been pulling back chunks of time on Amador as well. I'm starting to question the security of his top-5 placing, especially after that mediocre MTT. The next two big mountain stages should be thrilling. Thanks for the reports roturn, and nice post Oleg.

Eventhough Schleck is a 85 climber, his comeback is truly sensational. Brilliant reporting on it, roturn, thanks a lot!
And big congratulations to SN on the stage win, and with Schleck only 20 seconds behind, I kind of expect him to win this now, considering how strong he has been on all tough stages here.
Also good to see that the MTT was selective considering the small gaps it gave in the Vuelta. |

Thanks for the Christmas present roturn
Well, that couldn't have gone much better. Very surprised by the poor performances of Pluchkin, Spilak and Amador - it seems they've just run out of energy after a tough Tour de France, while Schleck has gone from strength to strength. It's interesting to see that it was Intxausti who was closest to Schleck. Glad to see that he can still put in some good GT performances, although he won't keep as closing to winning a GT as when the puncture cost him while riding for Vesuvio a couple of Vueltas ago.
Also quite pleased to see Schleck not win the stage. It was nice to see both Henao and Fothen go for the breakaway, and great for Henao that he won the stage after all those crashes.

Schleck
Unbielevable. Incredible. What an amazing performance (and Christmas gif ) for SN. He should have this in the bad
But even more incredible the comeback from Henao. Congrat's to It4i, they deserved it. |

Well, forget what i said about a tricky stage for Schleck to take yellow. That was another truly impressive performance and i can't see anyone bouncing back now. Spilak likely to defend his podium, but with a shocking stage here... Schleck would be the deserved winner, still wonder if we may see Pluchkin now going for his very own comeback?
Gratz, alex! Nice win indeed.

Thanks guys.
Awesome Christmas gift!
Considering he is most likely going to take the polka dots now, if Schleck would have snatched that victory from Henao, he would have been enemy #1 on 1t4i's list.

Yay. I wasn't expecting a report today so that itself is a nice surprise already. It's also nice to see Henao Montoya deliver a victory after all that's happened to him. Congrats alex
This really was the stage SN was wishing for. Without a TT on the way Schleck has all in needs to capture this TdF. He needs to stay on his bike though. It's hard to see Pluchkin being left empty-handed after so many valuable tries at a GT victory but that will eventually be corrected at some point I believe.
Merry Christmas everyone

Very nice to see 1t4i get that win from Henao, congratulations, alexkr00!
Schleck looks to have made the win safe, as SN said, no one seems to have the energy left to challenge him.
A great stage to read as it was full of action, it would definitely be quite something if the penultimate stage is just as exciting, but as said, Schleck is looking somewhat invincible in the mountains this Tour de France. |

Looks like Schleck should win the Tour, barring a significant change in the trends of the race. Very surprising. I really can't believe how badly Amador is falling apart, there is no reason he should be finishing with the groups he is finishing with, and unless he rallies tomorrow he may even drop down to 7th. Very disappointing.

SN did a great tour de force with two GTs reported, his reward is a simply outstanding display by Schleck whose Tour looks likely to go down in the legends. Schleck looks good to win three jerseys here.
It does kinda make you think when we first saw Schleck emerge some years ago how good he could have been in real life. Yes he 'won' a tour and a LBL but he could have done so much more.
Pluchkin is looking very much the bridesmaid again or in this case the bride whose who has been left alone at the alter. Too bad, but he, Spilak and very much Madrazo have not been anywhere near to Schlecks consistent brilliance in the mountains. He has just been on it, tactically and on form at the right time,
Should be interesting to see how AI handles Schleck being in yellow - big day for KoM in terms of who gets in breakaway. SRB have been in lots of breaks, would be brilliant if Bran Samoilev can sneak in one more on this stage, couldn't have asked for much more from my limited team here in this race. would be great if we could survive time cut with full compliment too.
