Surprise number 2 of the day.
Expectable in a way though:

2011: 4th
2012: 8th

On another note: Kwiatkowski abandoned and when Sagan attacked the 2nd time there was a Omega following, Terpstra that it. According to our good friend Martins, it was Kwiatkowski. So neither he and Gonçalo Moreira knew he had abandoned neither they didn't realize that Kwiatek is Polish NC so there was no way it could be him. |

Before anyone comes in, I called Coquard talent the earliest this year
19 | COQUARD Bryan | Team Europcar | | 16 | ,, |
He proved his punchy capabilites earlier this year in few races, this proves it further.

Kwiatek(and Dekker) crashed with a caravan car early on.. They both abandoned early. It was Trentin who was close to Sagan.
Fantastic result by Vichot. Some points are always important

Excellent result indeed, just like Lutsenko in 17th.
Potentially best result of the season from JTL too - 63rd place

If Gesink win's the WC it's probably the biggest suprise ever. And Ruben hasn't even shown up. Well, Gesink probably should train harder on Ardennes instead of going for GT's?
Before his broke his leg he tried to go for the classics as 1st peak plenty of times. Always failed because of lack of explosivity. He had no acceleration. Yet, he did win Emilia twice, because the finish is fucking steep. (San Luca is like twice Huy).
After leg break his climbing has gone way down but he has done better in hilly stages. So maybe he should focus on classics + one week stage races. I think he could really do well also with his improved ITT |

But man am I glad with this win. Gesink deserves that so much after all the shit he had to take undeservedly.
It was also illogical he rode his worst season so far, when he rode his best figures ever in watts early this season (new rabobank/belkin/giant record w/kg and +500 in absolute watts).
Something must have been fucked in his training. Overtraining or something else. He still has the class |

He vanished after the Ardennes to show up in Burgos with a couple of 5-10 positions. But at least he was seen in the Ardennes, after being nowhere during two years (he was ill but was supposed to recover in a month or two, it turned out to be years). |

Appreciate I'm late to the party but having only just watched it...GESINK
Just for good measure he leaned on Sagan at the sart of the sprint for prime position too
On another note if Van Avermaet hadn't gone right across the road shadowing/avoiding Sagan as he blew he might have been a bit closer but nothing stopping Gesink there...A...maz...ing |

Van Avermaet would've been 2nd if he hadn't chose Sagan wheel for sure, he was closing in on Vichot. But losing terrain on Gesink tho wtf
still amazing to see.
in 20 years next generation will be baffled to read that in one race, Gesink outsprinted a field of punchers, the green jersey winner and dropped 3 TDF winners (Evans, Contador, FRoome) to win Quebec
