1. Conditionals : type 1, 2 and 3


Type 1 : If it rains this weekend, I won’t (=will not) go for a walk.
If + S. Present , will / won’t (will not) + infinitive
Use : a real situation , is still possible if the action in the if-clause takes place.



Type 2 : If I found a credit card, I wouldn’t use it.
If + S. Past , would / wouldn’t (would not) + infinitive
Use : an imaginary situation, it’s possible but not very likely to happen.



Type 3 : If I had studied more, I would have succeeded.
If + Past Perfect , would / wouldn’t have + past participle
(Past Perfect = (past part.= voltooid deelwoord)
had /hadn’t (had not) + past participle) pp = reg. Verbs : inf. + ed
irreg. verbs : 3rd column)
Use : an unreal situation, it isn’t possible any more. The action in the if-clause
didn’t happen. (I didn’t study more, so I didn’t succeed)
