Nice attack by Lance, keep the momentum!

sutty68
He certainly made up for the last stage, niicceeeSmile

Not a good first day in the mountains for Lance, with Andy Schleck being superbly strong. But Lance's already got a minute back on them, that's good (let's hope his legs won't suffer much from that tomorrow) Wink

Stage 14: St Gaudens - Plateu Du Beille

The final day here in the pyrénees, and it's sure to be a real cracker! The route contains 5 categorized climbs, 2 Category 2, 2 Category 1, and a Hors Category Finish, any rider off colour today, could find themselves utterly out of contention for the overall positions!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/s14.jpg

The morning breakaway was a large group of 8 men, including our very own Craig Lewis. Craig is a decent climber, and was feeling good, so we decided to give him a chance in the breakaway, on a day where it could reasonably get to the finish.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0014-34.jpg

The break held 8minutes as they passed the penultimate climb, and a group of 3 decided to try and give it a go from the pack, before the main favourites attacked; Kiserlovski, Mollema, and Porte are all strong riders, but not yet good enough to compete for the final placings, they went away on the final uphill before we got to the base of the summit finish.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0020-14.jpg

Seeing such a strong trio breakaway, Leopard were not feeling inclined to give them any breathing space, the whole team set up on the front, and pulled the pace right up, closing quickly to the trio, and also the leaders, who had absolutely nothing left after such a difficult stage.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0021-16.jpg

The break went from looking certain, to almost impossible, and so the 2 men who had something left, Oyarzun, and Cusin attacked the break, trying to shed the weak members clawing to the back of the group.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0022-13.jpg

Sure enough, after 3 of the 15kilometres ascent, the trio were caught by Leopard and the peloton, at this point, the break had just 3'20 advantage remaining.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0023-13.jpg

10km left... Frank Schleck is performing the role he's had all the way through this tour so far, setting a terrifying pace up the climb, shedding men out the back for his brother Andy, Armstrong still has Danielson left, but the main peloton is already down to 26men.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0024-10.jpg

5km... The attacks begin. Andy knows he lacks strength in the TT's and isn't wanting to be caught out on stage 20, he's the first man to attack, and just a few are able to follow, Armstrong can, along with Nibali, Sanchéz and Leipheimer just behind.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0026-11.jpg

3km... The final man from the break is caught, Cusin put up a fight, but once again, it won't be the day for Cofidis. Leipheimer is in a group just behind these favourites, along with Mosquera and Purito.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0028-6.jpg

1km... A.Schleck is just unstoppable in the mountains, he's strong enough for a second attack, and this time, no one can follow, today is set to be another win for the young Schleck.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0029.jpg

And yes, 42" in front of 2nd placed Samu Sanchéz, comes the Schleck the younger. Armstrong takes 5th place 1'15 down on Schleck, who is looking in absolutely prime form currently!

Here ends the second week! I'll put up the review/week 3 preview later, but one last piece of information to leave you with, is the news that Mark Cavendish, J.J Haedo, Theo Bos and Alessandro Petacchi all missed the time cut today, They have all been off form throughout the Tour De France, unable even to get into the top 10!

Week 2 Review

General Classification

Stage 12 saw the Maillot Jaune leave the hands of sky for the first time, they have carried it since the TTT on day 2. Andy Schleck has been the dominant force in the Pyrénees, and holds a lead of 2'19" over Samu Sanchéz in second.

Lance Armstrong has ridden well so far, currently in 4th place in the GC, following a succesful lone victory on the second stage within the Pyrénees. His form is almost at peak now, (99 currently) so he will hope to be a really dominant force within the alps of week 3!

Points Jersey

After a disappointing haul in week 1, Tyler has been unable to protect the green jersey during week 2, currently 2nd, 31points behind Sanchéz. With so few stages left where Tyler can make an impact, he will be hard pressed to reclaim the Maillot Vert, however, with good use of breaks, and success in the key flat stages, there is nothing to say it will be impossible!

King of the Mountains

None of the breakaway specialists committed early in targetting the Polka-Dot, which left it open for the GC specialists. As the Stage Winner on the 2 summit finishes, Andy Schleck currently leads the KOM contest, however, it will actually be 3rd placed Nibali wearing the Jersey tomorrow, due to the owners of the other 2 jerseys.

The 3rd week gets off to a gentle start, a massive stage for Tyler, he needs a victory here to have any chance of winning the Green Jersey. The Race then steadily gets harder, 2 days which look good for a break, with the Favourites trying to revive themselves a bit for the big alpine days of 18 & 19.

Stage 18 finishes upon the summit of the Col Du Galibier, the 3rd Hors Categorie climb of the day!

Stage 19 contains the ever famous Alpe D'Huez finish, climbed just once this year, in a 110km stage which contains both the A D'H, and the Col Du Galibier for a second time in 2 days!

From there we head into Grenoble, for a potentially 41km TT, likely to be the last chance for the GC contenders to try and shake up the standings. A day which will be major in Lance's tour, as one of the strongest TTists of teh GC select.

Stage 21 contains a lap around Paris, starting from Cretéil, before finishing under the Arc Du Triomphe, with a sprint finish, which may be the decisive finish for Farrar and the Maillot Vert!

Yeah, i think i agree, thing is, only 1 Sprint on each stage, so if i can get him to the end, i might get more from it :/

It's a story for you guys, so you decide!

Saves me having to make the choice, because i'm really not sure! Pfft

Sir Yes Sir!

Hopefully it'll work Smile

It's a hard decision, because it could give Farrar some trouble in the final stage which could turn out to be really important for the points competition. Besides, iirc breaks often don't succeed in PCM 10.. but if you do break with Farrar, it could be a good idea to have a team-mate with him there Wink

Now that, I like! Perhaps put Farrar up there with one of my decent climbing domestiques (Lewis/Aldape) to protect as well as possible over the climbs

A very flat finish today, one of the few days left for the sprinters here. We took a decision to control the pack all day today, trying to pick up as many points as possible before the mountains.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/s15.jpg

We set up a relay to control the pack, 3 intermediate sprints could mean an extra 18points, and with Sanchéz looking favourite to win, this was a chance to peg him back a few notches.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0005-39.jpg

We managed to control the pack all the way to the sprints, Farrar won all 3 without using too much effort, hopefully he will still place high in the finish, as we add 18 to his score, bringing Sanchéz back into view.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/sprints.jpg

A Breakaway was able to get free after this, Popovych went solo taking both the KOM sprints, before being reeled in with 11km to ride, following work by some really power full time-trialers so close 2'46 in 18km!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0009-48.jpg

With 5km to go, we had Armstrong pulling Tyler along, Lance has been a great help for Farrar, and he was helping to get him into a great spot, followed by sprinters B-H, Boonen and Hushovd.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0014-35.jpg

2km to go, and 2km, the leadout trains are all that remain now, Pippo is going alone on the left, the main favourites are in the central train behind the Exxon Duo, and some of the lesser sprinters are on the right hand train, following Astana's Allan Davies.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0016-28.jpg

1km... The sprint is off! Farrar isn't feeling 100% following his efforts, and Hushovd is flying on his right, Pozzato isn't out of the question either in the Italian NC, though he has done a lot of work to get himself positioned, so it may be hard to maintain all the way to the line.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0017-26.jpg

300m... The main train is clearly going to provide us with the winner, Pozzato is fading, but sadly, Tyler is also, he has been passed by Thor and Tommeke, can he hold off Boassen-Hagen to the line for a podium spot?

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0018-25.jpg

The god of thunder wins in front of Boonen, with 3rd place going to.... Tyler Farrar! He holds in there for 3rd, to take a 44point haul on the day. We may have missed out on the Stage win, but fighting for the intermediates has paid off, with 9points more than would otherwise have been max!

DS Review

Well, we took a risk here today by controlling the pack to give Tyler a chance, he managed to get all 3 which is great, and still hung in there for a podium position. We're doing all we can to fight for green, but there is a reality, Sanchéz is better placed due to the stages to come. Farrar will be looking to get into breaks over the next few days, and if possible, rack up enough points to take the fight all the way to the Champs-Elyssés.

Teddy The Creator
Really liking this despite not commenting. I really hope Tyler can win the points. Wink

sutty68
Only four points behind Sanchez in the points classification for Farrar, he will have to do something really spectacular if he is to win it now Frown

lluuiiggii
Good efforts by Exxon and Farrar, too bad Sanchez got 9th on the stage though Frown

baseballlover312
What is Sanchez's sprinting stat again? 77 now?

Sanchéz is 82 Acc, and 67 sprint, but most of the sprinters were completely invisible (Cav, Petacchi, Haedo, Rojas etc etc) so those guys with strong Acc values can do enough to hold on Sad

We're here on the final rest day, and it seems like a good opportunity to present unto you all, the final signing of the season.

We lacked badly in the cobbled classics, and the teams fans, and key sponsors all felt we should target this area of the side. As you all know, we have secured the contract of young S.Vogel, who looks set to become a new cobbles star given time. In the meanwhile, we have signed a new team leader, George Hincapie!

George is a great all-round strong man, and will look to provide some great results throughout the season. His targets will obviously be the Flanders classics season, but he will also continue to work as one of the teams big helpers later in the season!

We hope you like this signing, and we wish George all the best with us next season.

Stage 16

Todays stage is a difficult one to call, we may see a break get to the end, or it might be a reduced bunch finish, if the final hill proves selective enough to break up the pack.

Todays stage wouldn't load, I tried 9 times, and eventually gave up. However, the result actually plays into our hands quite well! A 2 man breakaway got out in front and was able to finish almost 6minutes ahead of the pack. However, the pace was slow enough for Tyler to stay in the group, and Farrar won the sprint for 3rd!

Sanchéz was no where to be seen, so following today, Tyler re-dons the Maillot Vert, with an 18point lead!

His day in the break moves Casar into 6th place in the GC, though it seems umlikely that this will remain so through the alps, everyone else finished together, so there will be no major changes in the GC.
