Julian Kern stated he was involved in the stage 2 crash which prevented more groups from catching up with the front group, went over Corkscrew in approximately 12th position.
I'm really looking forward to his performances this season. Should have many domestique duties, but it seems he can be quite competitive.

Indeed, posted about it here, with the pic. Didn't look great, really unlucky in his first race.

Pulling a late-nighter to watch the stage on Sky Sports, hoping to stay awake! |

De Gendt is on the break...
tiago just needs to arrive like last year since Gerrans is far in GC and Valverde is not there.

The pain of Cycling on Sky Sports, presented poorly.
Shame Danny Pate ain't racing, he would win on Willunga Hill, jokes. Oh the joys of this time last year

Slagter really, really impressive. Great on Gerrans to win the stage. But damn, Slagter with aggressive racing takes the overall GC lead.
EBH did his work for Thomas who just couldn't cope with the attackers.

Sky should learn from this. Actually riding for the win, instead of trying to control the race, although Thomas isn't as strong as the leaders who won today.

Doesn't make sense too me much. Thomas wasn't strong enough and that's pretty much it. He gave his all, couldn't give more. The only way Thomas was going to win is by controlling the tempo so he could sustain the effort, as he's not a natural climber.
Great win for Slagter Very nice opening for Blanco. And nice that he gave the win to Gerrans on Australia day. Well done mate.

I think Sky did everything right today. Thomas just didn't have it.

Nice job for Slagter and Rabobank.
Edit: Forgot there is no Rabobank.

I still think what he showed on the Corkscrew climb was something he could have done today, following attacks, as he did seem to be quite quick over the climb the other day.
Like you said, he just didn't have it though. Maybe they rode that way all the way up the climb, because they knew he was not feeling great.

Being pulled by EBH until well inside the last kilometre would make any defending leader happy. A bit strange that he blew up so completely in the end.
Great stuff from The Butcher. He attacked with real style. He will go on to do great things in the future.
