I think it makes sense for Van Aert to take the win. If Van Aert had previously won the race he would have let Laporte win this one, but I guess it's quite an important win for a Belgian rider especially in the nation champion shirt.
I understand it from a sponsorship and palmares perspective, but that win would mean so much more for Laporte than Wout, who probably has another 5+ great chances at this race ahead of him.

I can't believe just how generous Laporte is, it's interesting how Laporte is so dominant that he's happy to gift away nearly any race, but I guess it makes sense when he does always win the only race that matters, the Tour du Vendee.

I think Ghirmay is about to become cycling’s #1 collective fan favourite. Incredible, and I’m pretty sure he has the potential to win a monument. Bini will keep writing history (also hope he can be in the mix to become the forst maglia rosa!) |

Why's that, Ciolek was riding for years in top teams and enjoyed top class riding as amateur and pro.
Big day for Girmay and his country and for our beloved sport. They had a lot of hopefuls paving the way including Teshome of course, and now there is one who is able to win the big races. Surely more to come from him.

I think it's pretty much certain he has potential to win a monument. I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen in the next couple of years.

First African to win a World Tour Classic, male or female! That is a huge moment for the sport. Pheomenal! Very rare we get to see such a genuine first in modern sport.
Of course Impey won the TDU twice for the first African World Tour win, but i'm definitely not going to argue the TDU is more impressive/important than Gent-Wevelgem. And Ghrimay goes instantly pass Ashleigh Mollman's handful of classics podiums.
All eyes on him now headed to the Giro, i hope he can stand up under the pressure and display his all round skills. Not going to get carried away, but there are some impressive GT firsts he can target.
