Not great, not terrible. Too bad Van Poppel lost his speed towards the end there and only came in fifth. But it's good to see him in the mix. Gives us hopes for the next stages.

I miss the days when such a disorganized sprint would see a well-positioned punchy GC rider like Herklotz take 10th place or so, but the ciclamino is only an afterthought in this Giro anyway.
Congrats jph! I enjoy seeing you do so well this season.

You just can't keep Schomber away from these Stage 1s, make it a road stage and he'll just dominate the breakaway fight for intermediate points and end up 4th on GC anyway Do it again tomorrow and the next day with the sprint results shaken up and who knows?
Quite endearing seeing Areruya paying such close attention and care to not screwing up on his first day leading a Grand Tour team that he feels the need to come 13th in the sprint

Not bad. 6th for Kragh Andersen in his GT debut. The favorites teams didn't do too bad despite the messy sprint and Evonik having a weird order to their results. Hopefully AKA can get a podium or at least a top 5 down the road. Congrats to jph!

Haven't had a lot of time recently for PCMDaily stuff, but just stopping by to say I'll be reading this updates daily. Great to be back racing the Giro again after a few years away. Top 10 for Eastman is the goal. But mostly excited to see how Yates will do. Lots of hilly/flat stages that suit him.

Unfortunately Hsu was not placed well going into the final of the first stage. So he won't get to wear the maglia rosa again this year.
The Giro will be the first big test for Reis this year and will show if PCM20 treats him better. |

Crying because Schomber missed the split after earning himself third in the GC if he could have held on

Not a single rider survived that front group. 1'17" lost for everyone outside the top 60 might be an issue for some teams. For us, it doesn't matter much though.
Nice to see Kastrantas making the breakaway this time, although I would rather see him doing so tomorrow where it matters. What's interesting to see here though is that the leading rider actually goes on to win 2 consecutive wins. That's new at PT level in this game version (I think). Very dominant from the 6-man team so far. Well done!
Eislers the "big loser" so far, being the strongest rider in the bunch but still only 7th and 5th. Better than what Coquard is used to getting though so I guess it's somewhat acceptable, but very annoying to see the favorite underperforming this often.
After every rider in my team is "far behind" I hope we can put whoever we like in the breaks now - And in the optimal scenario rather 2 than 1. For tomorrows stage (albeit it won't be won from the break) I hope to see a combination of Kastrantas and maybe Kiriakidis. It's probably too soon to unleash Aidan, Jang and Ioannidis.

Good Job by Scully and enjoyable Report. Tomorrow should be a breakaway stage for Villella, let's hope he can go for it.

Not really happy with Hsu so far. He should bee fighting for top5/3s in these sprints but seems to always be placed quite badly. At least with the white jersey now he scores a few points. |

Luckily Carboni was before the split...only just though...except for him only Minali. All others lost time.
Not a big deal really as it might give Zardini a shot tomorrow to attack and also Ciccone/Koep have more freedom. But still they shouldn`t lose time too often as a top50 in the GC also brings some points. |

2/2 failed leadouts yay.
Some biggish names hit by the split in the peloton. Dont think any real big names were hit but several possible rivals for Chiarello lost a minute. Could be quite important having that small gap before the ttt.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Seeing Enger make the most of these sprints is nice?!?! to see cycleYorkshire alumni do so well. Also Meintjes is here, will love to follow his progress over these 3 weeks and I hope he can match his performance in the Tour with a similarly good performance!

Herklotz kept safe at the front and just outside the points paying positions is what matters, but Vasyliv, Stüssi and both of our U25 hopefuls losing over a minute here could certainly cost us a handful of points at the end of the race.
Tomorrow's the first opportunity for Silvio to make use of his puncheur skills, although it will be very hard to beat Simon Yates.
Bonus seconds have to be the goal though!
From experience, this stage rarely produces time gaps, and the expected group sprint can be distorted by bad energy management on the final incline.
I hope we can keep Herklotz well-protected at the front of the peloton again and he utilizes his experience from there.

Definitely was not expecting the same two guys to be first and second in the first two sprints. They're favorites too, which makes it all the more unlikely. Not great by Eislers though. He should be stronger here but leadouts are once again not necessarily good.
Not a great stage for us. AKA outside the top 10 and most of my guys lost a minute. But Guldhammer stayed in the front, and that's the most important thing, so no big deal.

I guess that's an improvement
An opposite of yesterday's sprint where he was in the wind way too early and run out of energy. Still hopeful he can pull of a stage win here.

Rather disappointed that Zardini didn`t care about going for the stage.
He was close to the win on similar stages before and really should have been able to fight for a top5-10 here surely seeing some of the riders in the mix.
Apparently this will be a long Giro when only Carboni is about to go for a decent top25 GC position so far but none of the other is trying anything.
Must hope that the mountains will see the team more active then.
Thanks for the report and congrats to the expected favourite win. |

Strange stage, and with the KOM this late it wasn't even a stage somewhat made for the breakaway. Not the best design of a first week race so far imo - but I guess we could have just planned better.
Aidan should be a good bet for a final like this, yet he didn't bother - just like the other riders of the team. I hope we will begin to get better soon, as we really isn't showing anything so far despite sending our weaker riders into the morning death sentence.
