Apparently Howard also can disappoint at times.. wasted race days for him, fortunately not too many though.
Looks we are all-in for Bobridge anyway. That's always a gamble and the profile is slightly concerning due to its length, but he looked good so far in this race.

Oh are you fucking kidding me. Of course Demare loses the AI roulette.
And after being at the front all day, obviously we lose 6 riders to that split.
Still. If we win tomorrow, we likely win the race. Let's do it.
That, and Ganna somehow lucking into the white jersey are the only saving grace of today.
I fully expect him to randomly be 10 minutes down tomorrow though.

Not a good day for Van der Lijke, but very good from Van Garderen to be getting bonus seconds instead - definitely looking to him now to deliver a good GC result, and it's then just for Van der Lijke to hold on in the hills as much as possible, to also see what he can hold onto.

Wow, went from really quite bad from Houle to brilliant, great to get a podium for us in a PT race (I know Houle has been this high before but never Xero ) and puts him in as solid a position as could be hoped for going into tomorrow - hope he can hang around for a decent GC result.

No riders in the first peloton makes me really hope we can join the breakaway on the final stage
Thank you for the reports so far, Marco! |

A rather disappointing race in the end. Grosu was nowhere near as strong as two years ago and perhaps it would have been better for Gerts to try to race for himself rather than staying with Grosu. And Boswell nowhere to be seen in this race either.
Thanks for the reports!

Thanks for the reports Marco.
5th and 7th in GC is a good outcome all in all. Perhaps a missed opportunity from Van der Lijke to do better, given how it played out, but equally it was a big ride from him to just make it in the front group. Van Garderen certainly maximised his opportunities, and had a go at winning alone too, so can't complain about his race!
A teams classification win is always welcome too!
Freakish performance by Degenkolb to hold on - no Yellow jersey curse here, as there has been in the PCT sprint races!

Big John holding on strong, congrats to ISA on the win!
Not the race we hoped for. Kragh and Serrano the only ones who really showed up, but it was always going to be a "hope for a bit of luck"-kind of race.

8th in GC for Lutsenko is a decent result I can live with. Thanks for the great reports, Marco!
Degenkolb is a cheat code. I wonder if he can win the individual rankings if he keeps going like this. Congrats Scorchio! |

Bobridge tried, which was great to see. Too less gas left though, so we end up with a still decent 9th place here. Obviously not a special result given his good form (which he showed in all three stages, imo), but RvN is always a gamble with less selection and bonifications being so crucial. Missing out on bonifications on the final stage hurts, but he went for it. Howard's no-show surely hurts more then. Still some solid points from the Netherlands, so I'm fine.
Thanks for the great reports and congrats to all winners!

Eh.
Could've been worse, and at least we didn't miss our win goal as extremely as in Hallstatt, but I can't help but feel like we had a very achievable path to victory here.
Don't let the sprint start without you on day 1, try to sprint at all on day 2, and be closer to the front here to have enough road left to overtake MvS here, and it's an easy win.
I guess that's the difference between a championship winning team in '18, and this team now.
We just don't quite finish the job when presented with the opportunity anymore.
This also means we will most definitely fail 4 of 5 sponsor goals this year, a significant dent in our 2021 budget that we will have to compensate for, and which further weakens the team.
Still, all in all 3rd overall (which we just got by centimetres today after all) and in points, plus especially second in the U25 for Ganna, are decent results on their own, and good points that should help us get through this short stretch of cobbled races coming up before GT season starts.
I shouldn't take not having to worry about relegation as much as most other teams for granted.
Congrats to ISA (yellow jersey bonus is still very much alive!!), and well done Evonik for having the upper hand this time around.
And thanks Marco for the geography lessons!

On paper this could have been a very good race with Aidan van Niekerk among the U25 favorites aswell as Koretzky a GC rider and Bouglas and Nizzolo both decent sprinters.
In the end a pretty uninteresting race unfortunately with Koretzky in 10th as the only interesting thing. 100 points or so is unfortunately too little, and with the low points in the cobbles this will be a horrible month.

Another race the team fails to deliver slowly moving towards relegation area.
De Bie in 14th despite being the best puncheur here. He is just useless so far and never succeeded according his stats in the last 2-3 seasons...
Groenewegen did okay but neither support strong. On day 2 had the perfect wheel and position but faded hugely then... No real depth points but U25 here which is probably still the best to take from here...
Thanks for the reports. |

This race is the perfect example how close the path between a feeling of success and a feeling of failure can be. This is a pretty good result for Evonik eventhough im not too happy that a not given gap (Degenkolb) once again negatively influences us. But before this stage, it looked far worse and i have to be happy about climbing this far in GC.
Stoltz 21st, Riesebeek 25th and 3 more in top 50 is a good depth result too
Thanks for the reports!

Well that's a very very cool result for us, 4th behind Degenkolb, MVS and Demare and ahead of other big names is brilliant for us, I know it's no points but it's a very nice wildcard performance and hopefully one which gives us confidence both in our PCT racing and going into the Tour of Northern Europe later this season. Thanks for the reports Marco!

Yeah if we have 3 in the front group why pull for the sprinters instead of attacking, cause it's a great idea to sprint against somebody like van Stayen or Demare. And then a perfectly good idea to drop back and loose any chance on depth points, I love it!

Ok race for us overall considering the expectations. Nice performance by Teuns, I'm never gonna scoff at KoM ranking points. Thanks Marco for the reports and congrats everyone who did well here!

Not a great race for us, but wasn't expecting too much anyways. I did think Serry would have a better race in the GC, but somehow Hayakawa was able to bring in some okay points for the team, and Kuboki as well, who I originally thought would be our best scorer.
Thanks for the reports

Probably one of the races this season where we shouldn't have expected too much but McCarthy did himself 'some' credit by finishing 15th overall plus Enger managed some depth pts and a top 10 stage result on top.
Still feel underwhelmed by McCarthy, I still have dreams/delusions that a top 10 is in the offing for him but he needs to do better!
