The clash with Nantahala has done little to reduce the quality of the start-list here in Beijing it would appear. The course alterations are a surprise, but I guess in keeping with the originally posted '100% hills' parcour sentiment (not a big fan of after planning route changes, but can appreciate in certain instances MGUCI may deem necessary; hopefully will be a very rare/unique occurrence).
From an ISA - Hexacta stand-point, we are relying on the BBC combo here to bring home a solid points haul (Betancourt, Boily and Contreras). Pre-season envisaged that Betancourt would be leading our charge here with Boily as foil/back-up if Betancourt has one of his occasional mid-race brain-farts. One or other in the top 10 is the minimum expectation to make decent use of the RD's here. Hopefully Contreras at least takes the opportunity to sprint on stage 2.
For me, race favourite is Kelderman. Didn't comment in the standings discussion, but I believe that Abhi hit the nail on the head when he identified therein that Philips struggles this season lie more at the feet of their support crew (and perhaps lack of such) rather than directly on the shoulders of designated team leaders. With the way the PCT calendar is laid out, I am expecting a rider like Kelderman to have a barn-storming last few months, maybe even enough to haul his mates out of the relegation quagmire, even if they look in deep doo-doo as things stand right now.
Looking forward to the reports to see how things unfold.

Stuyven/Vichot have been largely invisible when they've gotten the chance to lead this season, and with a strong startlist, I'm not expecting it to be any different here. Hopefully we can be active and get in some breakaways, though.
Also expecting Selig to fight for the win on the flat stage. He's been close several times this season, but has lacked some speed on the final meters. Maybe he can succeed this time?

Looks like my complaining in the KMC thread helped us with a 1-2 here. Serry actually could be a solid rider to Top 10, and with both of my guys in 1st and 2nd, they will probably get race day bonuses for being high up the GC. Still annoying that results are always so inconsistent with this PCM version...

Hills are weird indeed. Oomen and De Plus look good though, let's hope they can hold on.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Well we have a weak form lately, on the other hand we are sending rather weak squads atm but would be nice seeing us get in to breaks when we are not fighting for good overall positions.... |

Attentive stuff by Kelderman at least. Good to see the big guys still in the mix. Great win on asian soil for Rakuten!

On the face of it 5th is a good stage result from Beltran, given that the profile was more for hilly sprinters than others. Although losing bonus seconds to riders like Kinoshita and Yates is not good at all.
I won't be surprised if this race is decided by bonus seconds with the new profile. Hoping for an uneventful stage 2 and then try to detonate the race on either stage 3 or 4

Claeys, I need you to battle for the general classification, not the mountains classification...

Guess we’re going for Grmay. Was always going to be hard for Areruya to match Oomen I guess but that U25 gap to him and De Plus is a slight shame to see already. Will reserve judgment until I see how Grmay goes I guess, but would have liked a breakaway here and hopefully it happens in the next few stages.

Not the best start but we managed to avoid time losses in the end. Just hope we can do a little better in the future stages!

Yeah, good thing Pelucchi was useless in that sprint. Back to the GC then.

So our leader goes into the break on a stage where he should be a favorite, but on a stage where we have no one to challenge we don't send anyone in the break? Great stuff lads

Thank god that break didn't move into the GC lead. I think, as someone else mentioned, this race is going to come down to bonus seconds.
Shame we didn't bring back the break, or else we would've won again. Im pretty sure thats the only time we ever seem to win a sprint, is when the breakaway stays clear, so its only a sprint for minor places.

Flugel lost a minute on stage 1 and our sprinter Haller managed 60th on stage 2. Kraftwerk not enjoying their trip to China.

Nice, Ranneries takes 3rd in the group sprint on the day a large breakaway wins uncontested and we don't get anyone in it. So no points again. Wonderful.
I feel like every time I open a report I'm committing self harm. JJ was 128th on the first stage. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. 128th. 128th. Is it now possible to randomly get -10 daily form every day? 128th. Damn.

Dowsett legitimately finishing 2nd in a flat stage breakaway after being penultimate rider of the team in a hilly one is the epytome of frustration

So close to an awesome neo-pro stage win, but fourth is nice nonetheless from Higuita Hopefully a sign of breakaways to come in the next two days
