It was not the ideal start, we could and should have done better. The positions at the entrance to the last km were perfect and yet we lost several places.
KoM and Young shirts are a bonus as sooner or later we will lose them.
Congrats to TVG and Newton

Could be a tough race for Eritel looking at the startlist, and then all three of my leaders crashed at least once on Stage 1 - although appearing to not be injured.
Will be interesting to see if one of them will go breakaway hunting again, as Venter did in Pologne.

Well a podium for Reichenbach is more than I expected. At first I was sad about Goncalves abandoning, but maybe it will be a blessing in disguise that allows Reichenbach to keep up with the TTT squad

TVG rode this stage perfectly and gets rewarded with a stage win and the leader's jersey. No need to go full out attack mode (yet). Trust the TTT team and follow your rivals will be enough for stage wins and hopefully the GC win.
Also, avoid crashing. Sad to see two abandons on the first day.
Great result by Abreu as well and Tsatevich for finishing near the front of the first group.

After crashing and being in a bad position 8th place from Kreder is a great effort.
Congrats to Mre for TVG's well timed winning sprint.
Super reporting from tsmoha, thanks!

I don't know what the fuck is wrong with Quevedo. Crashing out again at the first stage, we had that shit already. I'm done with this.
Also two men down with Mohoric and Mansilla - all 3 leaders crashing is surely great news for the race. FFS.

2nd place is very good. It's kind of a shame that Ulissi can't win a bunch sprint of any form and shape, but what the hell can I do.
Congrats Mre, will be an exciting fight I'm sure, even though Ulissi has few chances Thanks tsmoha for the on point reports.

5th is fairly good, cant expect much better from Zaini tbh. A little worried that our 2nd and 3rd best riders both went down in crashes today, so hopefully there are no lingering injuries there.

Fantastic and memorable solo stage win there for Caruso thanks to a well timed attack. Le Gac managing to finish in the favourites group is great from him as well. We should be able to defend the jersey in Stage 3 and then it'll be one hell of a fight to avoid losing too much time in the TTT in order to achieve a good GC.

Very weak start for Compal, the only thing we can hope for now is a top 50 and a stage win if lucky, but to be honest, I'm happy if we can get anything at all home from this horrible race in South Africa
Thank you for the detailed reports tsmoha! |

"Froome (17th) crosses the line as last in the group.."
well seems we also have cut the unlucky end of the line with kinda bad daily form. Other than the small attacks, we're sacking slowly behind the others and need to find a stage to attack the GC on.

Great work on the part of the team in particular Bauer that was able to hold the leadership of the mountain for at least another 2 days conquering a few more points.
Our effort was not rewarded as we would like but still managed to gain time to some of the candidates.. In the next two stages the team should be more restrained since neither is appropriate to our characteristics.

Bit of an underwhelming stage, but a great solo effort by Caruso. Zaini atleast inside the main bunch is good.

Nice to see all the Eritel mentions in the report, thanks for that tsmoha. Pity it's mostly talking about the next bad thing
Teklit did well, and if he can keep it up then that will be great. Slightly concerned though that our 3rd TT rider, Hadi, is clearly injured.

Fine solo win by Caruso, congrats to LLS.
Super ride by Kreder to stay with the top riders today and make a podium finish. Mehr-Wenige also made the selection, a top 15 GC position still a possibility but that TTT will hurt.
Another great report tsmoha!

Scully! Very nice result for Compal there, congrats to them. Nice to see Kraftwerk and Isostar third and fourth too.
Great reporting here as always tsmoha, love the graphical work too

Great to see Compal with an impeccable stage landing the 1-2! Congrats Bjartne, this could well be the turning point in the year for you guys.

All that work for a 6th, but we did pretty well overall with 3 in the Top 15. Congrats to Bjartne

Wow what a huge win for the team here with a 2nd place in the TTT and also having Froome among the final 5. Unlucky for Matt with Ulissi again, but well his TT squad was indeed strong (gratz with the win tho'. Seems we found the right balance and astonished that its status quo with TvG.
It has worried me a bit, that he has shown bad daily form in the first two hilly stages, but this is just what we need. Liked the first shot of the team and kudos to you tsmoha for a thrilling TTT to report, considering how hard it is to make a good TT report. Top notch.
Now on to the next stage, where I hope Froome is back at the front and can do as he did in Pologne vs TvG earlier in the year.
