You know I'm the biggest fan of your team, so it's awesome to see you delivering like that. Great run by Alarcon, and Slagter is doing magic for you as well. Keep it up dev!

Spotlight: Tom Jelte Slagter
The dutchman is a special rider for the team. Being only one of two riders that have been with us from the start, from 2013. Not only that, but he is turning into a key rider for our PT-campaign..
The rise of Slagter:
Year | FL | MT | HL | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FI | DH | PR | 2013 | 67 | 69 | 69 | 65 | 68 | 67 | 67 | 50 | 61 | 64 | 73 | 76 | 65 | 2014 | 67 | 73 | 72 | 65 | 69 | 69 | 70 | 50 | 61 | 67 | 76 | 76 | 65 | 2015 | 68 | 76 | 75 | 66 | 70 | 72 | 72 | 50 | 61 | 69 | 80 | 78 | 66 | 2016 | 68 | 78 | 77 | 66 | 71 | 73 | 74 | 50 | 61 | 71 | 82 | 79 | 66 | 2017 | 68 | 78 | 78 | 66 | 71 | 73 | 74 | 50 | 61 | 71 | 82 | 79 | 66 |
The breakthrough:
He havent had a win before this years Tour of Cali.. And what a win it was!
With all our best climbers in the giro, he was given the opportunity to lead Tour of California
Something he took full advantage of..
It was in Stage 5 he took the race into his own hands by first going into the early break and putting pressure on the better climbers. Then when they eventually got caught, he attacked again with Jull-Jensen and they got a gap only a handful of riders would be able to close. Within those, stage favourites Skujins, De Bie and last years winner of the stage, Koretzky. Probably tired from their earlier efforts, they had no chance to follow Slagters decisive move with 20kms to go. The rest is history.
Slagter leading attackers..
Slagter alone against the rest!
In the end, he managed to win with a gap of 1'34 to Juul-Jensen and more importantly 2'52 to Amador. Who was now the biggest GC-favourite with one tough mountain stage and a finishing TT to come. Slagter now leading the GC with 2'25 to Amador but with a safe gap to the rest. So 2nd looked secure atleast.
When the big mountain stage, he couldnt follow Amador as expected. So he played it smart, paced himself and when Amador slowed down laiter in the climb, he even managed to pass him and put some more valuable seconds into the bag for the TT. Which made him able to hold off Amador and win the GC of the 2017 Tour of California!
First stage and first race win for Slagter, not a bad way to announce himself to the Protour!
GC | 1 | Tom Jelte Slagter | Hugo Boss | 22h27'12 | 2 | Andrei Amador | Team UBS | + 26 | 3 | Adam Yates | Ayubowan! | + 4'08 |

What a rider Slagter is for your team. Not only this season, but also last season. Of course, he's very valuable for the establishing of Hugo Boss as a PT force. The base to build up is there, and Slagter is perfectly executing the Hugo Boss tactics when Ponzi and Alarcon are not riding.

Jose Alarcon wins the Giro!
It is with great relief that we can tell you, Alarcon held on and won the 2017 Giro d'Italia in commanding fashion!
After a great start to the race, he started to struggle a bit in the 2nd week and we was afraid he would continue the negative trend in the 3rd week. Instead, he striked back and won the mountain ITT and finished 3rd and 2nd in the last mountain stages. Increasing his advantage further to his nearest opponents.
Alarcon showing no mercy - taking his 4th stage win in the MTT
Stage 20 proved to be a special one - just 6km in and Alarcon and Morton attacked
A pretty normal sight - Carapaz leading Alarcon up one of the many mountains in the queen stage
Carapaz setting Alarcon up nicely on final climb. Not many could follow at this point..
Maglia Rosa finally attacks and nobody could follow. He would probably have won the stage if he went a bit earlier but still a nice way to secure the overall win, together with the KoM and Points jersey. A fitting finale we feel in an epic race.

Huge month for the team! Basically this month has guaranteed your presence in next year's PT
A shame about Ponzi and Amstel, but i'm sure he will strike back in Fleche and Liege.
Really great to see Slagter performing so well, given that you had him since your first season in MG

Ponzi won a race
Belive it or not, Ponzi actually won a race a this season. After disbanding his second goal race of the season, Amstel Gold Race with a stomach bug and ending 14th only in Fleche Wallone, he wasnt the big favourite exactly for Liege - Bastogne - Liege. But boy he actually delivered for once!
Ponzi's win was much thanks to this guy - Carlos Barbero, who was immense here
110% in control - Ponzi never even looked challenged in this finale - why couldnt you be like this for the 95 % of your other races aswell?
Results:
1 | Simone Ponzi | Hugo Boss | 6h05'41 | 2 | Simon Spilak | Festina - Dexia | s.t. | 3 | Jan Bakelants | Strava | + 19 | ... | 18 | Pello Bilbao | Hugo Boss | s.t. | 23 | Carlos Barbero | Hugo Boss | + 5'02 | 50 | Mikel Landa | Hugo Boss | s.t. |
Goals update:
CAT. | RACE | SPOT | RES. | PTM | Tour de France | Win | | PTM | Milano san Remo | Top 3 | 6th, Ponzi | | PTM | Liege-Bastogne-Liege | Win | 1st, Ponzi | PT | Amstel Gold Race | Win | 57th, Bilbao | PT | Team Standings | Top 10 | |

Loving the enthusiasm Great to see Ponzi taking the win after struggling earlier on in the Ardennes, so enjoyed that one. Not bad for a promoted team, winning a GT and a monument in the first season!

Hehe, I'll blame my lack of creative skills for that
No doubt he made up for much with that win, and indeed very happy with the PT-debut season

PT-debut season finished - we made it!
It's with great relief we can say that we successfully managed to stay in the top division of the game for another year. Especially after that troublesome start we had.
The fact that we even managed to stay in top 10 makes us even happier as that was a goal set by the team sponsors aswell. Hugo Boss will happily continue to sponsor the team for a 3rd year after the impressive feat we managed in our first season at the top level.
Sponsors goals:
CAT. | RACE | SPOT | RES. | PTM | Tour de France | Win | 14th, Slagter | PTM | Milano san Remo | Top 3 | 6th, Ponzi | | PTM | Liege-Bastogne-Liege | Win | 1st, Ponzi | PT | Amstel Gold Race | Win | 57th, Bilbao | PT | Team Standings | Top 10 | 10th, Hugo Boss |

You had a nice debut season in PT, congrats!
Alarcon really showed what he can do in Giro and Ponzi did ok even if he found some bad luck at Amstel and had a bad day at Fleche Wallone.
Both of them finishing top 10 in the individual rankings is very nice, looking at my own team finding the first guy in 38th |

When looking at our riders seasons, its important to look at more than just the points each rider have given us. But it surely doesnt hurt too have two riders inside the top 10 of the rankings, as the only team in the ProTour who managed that this year!
The fact that our new signings (Ponzi and Alarcon) worked so well wasnt a guarantee at all, so thats a big relief that they worked so well in our first year even!
But the most satisifying thing of the season got to be TJ Slagters big win. From being here at the team since he was lvl.1 after spending a decent amount of money and time on him to get him where he is now, is it really fantastic to see him pull of some great results. Especially the Tour of California win and the Tour de France performance was the highlights of his season.
Another rider who might have gone a bit under the radar for some was Carlos Barbero, the spanish youngster who as now at his second year at the team, really loves to attack! Together with his countless agressive racing this season, his Liege - Bastogne - Liege performance, which was key for Simone Ponzi's win there, made this another fantastic season for him. And he hadn't even reached his full potential yet!'
The third rider we would like to get a special mention is Richard Antonio Carapaz, being another one of those riders who have been with us from the start, is it great to see him finally reach his peak and deliver in such great fashion too!
The Giro d'Italia outcome for us, wouldnt have looked nearly as good if it weren't for all the kilometeres Carapaz spent at the front controlling things for Alarcon in the final week!

What a season! And by looking at all the great achievements coming from Ponzi and Alarcon, one should not forget what an amazing season TJ Slagter had!
