Very smart transfers you did imo, great depth you have and a great base for the next seasons whereas most probably escaping relegation again thanks to some new great point scorers. No leader to match Di Maggio but at least a great support for him!
Thanks, matt. You voiced pretty much my own thoughts.
It'll turn into a tough season, but the points less scored by Di Maggio and Cataldo due to stronger contenders hopefully will be won by depth.
Avoiding relegation is key for our franchise. With all the talents returning from their PT-trip in 2017 it could be a bright future for Vontobel.

Apollonio was a very good buy at this level, and at 27 there's still plenty of chances to improve him even further in future.

Hope you're right, we really need his help the upcoming season.
Appollonio is under close observation, he may not have more than one season to prove his worth. Currently we tend to focus on the development of Aregger.

David Wöhrer winning the queen stage in Tachira.
At least for this stage the three big M on the left (in order: Marquez, Machado, Martin) had to admit defeat.
Cesare di Maggio repeated his strong ride from last years Tour Down Under. Even though he didn't win it this time, he secured enough ranking points to be Vontobels best achiever of the month. He is closely followed by Davide Appollonio who left a good first impression by winning two stages in Venezuela.
Martin Kohler was the only Swiss who scored in January. He grabbed a podium from a last days break at Tour Down Under.
David Wöhrer spend the last three days of Vuelta al Tachira in the break. One missed, one win and one podium is an excellent success rate.
| Race | Rider | Res. | Kat. | | Down Under Classic | Davide Appollonio | 9th | | | | | | | | Tour Down Under | Cesare Di Maggio | 2nd | GC | | | | 1st | KOM | | | | 3rd | Points | | | | 4th | ST3 | | | | 2nd | ST5 | | | Oscar Gatto | 4th | ST2 | | | | 8th | ST5 | | | Martin Kohler | 3rd | ST6 | | | Martin Weiss | 7th | Youth | | | | | | | Vuelta al Tachira | Dario Cataldo | 11th | GC | | | | 1st | ST7 | | | | 9th | ST8 | | | Davide Appollonio | 1st | ST1 | | | | 1st | ST3 | | | | 3rd | Points | | | David Wöhrer | 24th | GC | | | | 1st | KOM | | | | 5th | Points | | | | 6th | ST7 | | | | 1st | ST9 | | | | 3rd | ST10 | | | Oscar Gatto | 10th | ST2 | | | | 8th | ST5 | | | Martin Kohler | 9th | ST2 | | | Floris de Tier | 9th | Youth | | | | | |

So close! Marcel Aregger almost winning his fist stage in a Vontobel dress. He was our lone ray of hope at Volta a Catalunya.
Edoardo Zardini surprisingly secured our best result of the month. 8th in San Luis isn't outstanding, but a lot better than expected.
Marcel Aregger had a busy month. His nice performance in Spain made him win the title.
While the team didn't manage to be in a surviving break Patrick Lane made his effords at Tour de San Luis worthwile. He's our third King of the Mountains winner of the young season.
| Race | Rider | Res. | Kat. | | Berner Rundfahrt | Martin Kohler | 18th | | | | Reto Hollenstein | 24th | | | | | | | | Tour de San Luis | Edoardo Zardini | 8th | GC | | | | 10th | ST3 | | | | 9th | ST7 | | | Patrick Lane | 1st | KOM | | | | 7th | Youth | | | Reto Hollenstein | 42th | GC | | | | | | | Volta a Catalunya | Dario Cataldo | 14th | GC | | | | 9th | ST3 | | | | 9th | ST6 | | | Marcel Aregger | 7th | ST1 | | | | 2nd | ST4 | | | | 10th | Points | | | David Wöhrer | 27th | GC | | | | | | | Strade Bianche | Cesare Di Maggio | 16th | | | | | | |

Michael Schär and Ronan van Zandbeek showed their best at Duo Differdange.
Racing in Luxemburgh featured many surprising results, our guys joined the well-performing teams.
Cesare Di Maggio ended our struggles in scandinavian races. With the few races we attended in March the 4th in Ringerike made him top-achiever.
As part of our successful TT-Duo Michael Schär scored best among the confederates.
Ronan van Zandbeek had the right idea. Sadly the group of brave men at E3 Prijs didn't succeed, but he gave a good fight and finished best of our team.
| Race | Rider | Res. | Kat. | | Kandy Cycling Classic | Dario Cataldo | 16th | | | | | | | | Duo Differdange | Ronan van Zandbeek | 7th | | | | Michael Schär | 8th | | | | | | | | E3 Prijs | (none) | | | | | | | | | Ringerike GP | Cesare Di Maggio | 4th | | | | | | |
Best result in March: Andrea Dal Col finished 11th at Chrono des Herbiers.

This time he made it! Marcel Aregger became our first Swiss stage winner of the season.
Marcel Aregger attended almost every race and became our most diligent scorer in April. Stage win in South Africa, two podiums at Romandie and an 11th spot at the Interlagos classic were his achievements.
No wonder Marcel Aregger is our best Swiss rider in April, too. Next best was Martin Kohler, who performed well in South Africa.
Once again Patrick Lane did his job in breakaways. Like last year he attacked the KOM-jersey at Tour de Romandie and improved his result from 5th to 3rd.
| Race | Rider | Res. | Kat. | | Tour of South Africa | Cesare Di Maggio | 7th | GC | | | | 5th | Points | | | | 6th | ST1 | | | | 7th | ST2 | | | | 6th | ST5 | | | | 5th | ST6 | | | Martin Kohler | 19th | GC | | | | 4th | KOM | | | Marcel Wyss | 27th | GC | | | Reto Hollenstein | 29th | GC | | | Marcel Aregger | 1st | ST3 | | | | 9th | Points | | | | | | | Tour de Romandie | Dario Cataldo | 27th | GC | | | Patrick Lane | 35th | GC | | | | 3rd | KOM | | | Marcel Aregger | 3rd | ST2 | | | | 3rd | ST3 | | | | 5th | Points | | | Michael Schär | 8th | ST6 | | | | | | | Interlagos Grand Prix | Marcel Aregger | 11th | | | | | | | | Dutch Food Valley Classic | Davide Appollonio | 14th | | | | | | |
Best result: Pierre Paolo Penasa finished 23th at Giro d'Italia.

VONTOBEL WITHDRAWS SPONSORSHIP Züri: Today Vontobel officials announced the end of their pro cycling team sponsorship. In a short dated press conference a brief statement was released:
Heavy-heartedly the decision was made that Vontobels sponsorship of its cycling team will come to an end with the last day of 2016th season.
There are two main reasons making this step inevitable:
Recent race competition developments and our teams lack of success.
And even more important, the upcoming 2017/18 financial markets crisis makes Vontobel to silence all sponsoring efforts.
Thanks to the whole team. Guys trying their best to keep good spirits even in the most difficult times.
Thanks to the organisers, fellow managers and our faithful fans!

So is this the end?
Really sad to see you go if so, always liked your team and your focus, it was unfortunate to see your team going down this year because of all your leaders not living up to their expectations.

Thanks for the kind words, matt!
Yeah, that's it. Well, maybe I stop by the Swiss Nationals and hand out free merchandising stuff.

Sad news indeed. Would have liked to see you remaining in the game. Was really a frustrating season for your team as your leaders were performing well under expectations. |

No Margh. You are not allowed to. Who is going to sell me Gatto now?
I really enjoyed our talks last offseason and see you as a great manager with a whole bunch of bad luck and a diva as a captain. I would've loved to see you continuing, especially as your team minus di Maggio would've made an outstanding CT team. Is it no motivation for you to have a big shot on winning the title there?

Hope that's not what it sounds like IF so can only echo what others have said, didn't know you that well but you'll be missed from MG Marge, a great team and a great and committed manager
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

And another manager of the class of 2014 leaves the game
Sad to see you go. Cool team, great manager and some nice memories from our fights in CT & PCT - you will surely be missed
