Tony Martin riding the cobbled classics!!! Even without him the team constantly fuck up as they have too many leaders already in Terpstra, Stybar and Boonen. So if Tony rides them is he going to play the Vandenbergh role or does he want a shot as a leader? |

Ben King started the season in the worst way possibly. Crashed in a training session when hitting some ice and broke his right ankle. Out for 4-6 weeks. |

Did they put those little Danish flags on the chest and the thigh to make sure everyone understood that they do actually know what the Danish flag looks like, given that they seem to have got it wrong on the main jersey?

Vuelta 2016 route officially presented tomorrow, but as always the leaks are out in force. Here is the route according to biciciclismo.com (I've bolded the uphill finishes, although there are probably more, it's looking like pretty classic Vuelta fare at the moment). Lots of them will be familiar from the last 3-4 years, although I suppose after last year's all-new MTF policy a swing back the other way was to be expected.
Recorrido:
Sábado 20 agosto. 1ª etapa: Balneario Laias - Castrelo de Miño (Ourense), 29,4 km CRE

The Vuelta route is shit. Total shit. Stage 8 and 11 are some of the most awfully designed stages I've ever seen. This is a brand new low for the Spain, and adding to the fact that it's focused only in one region, it adds to shittiness. |

Here is that route in all its majestic shittiness:
So much MTF...
An interesting fact straight from the gun for you: there are 2 1st category passes in Spain IN THE ENTIRE RACE. (Passes as opposed to MTFs, and indeed those two would struggle to make 1st cat in either the Tour or the Giro).
I can't even be bothered to go into full rant mode, it's that bad that it doesn't deserve it. All I can say is that after putting forward some decent ideas last year (including the epic Astana massacre stage) they've thrown all the good ones away and reverted to the worst of recent Vuelta traditions, with a parcours that seems actually designed to discourage racing (and, incredibly, 70% of it is located in the northern quarter of the country). The one good stage that is there is put straight before the queen stage just to make sure all potential action is neutered as much as possible, and Miguel is right, stages 8 and 11 are utterly stupid - the race would undoubtedly benefit without their inclusion. I think this calls for a re-designing of the route Stromeon style with the same start/finish towns but infinitely better stuff in between.

Jesus what a stupid Vuelta profile.
I wish they had just followed the ManGame and copied that route. would've been better. |

Does someone have an article or something explaining when and why Garmin pulled sponsorship from Cannondale?

Kwiatkowski will be skipping Fleche. They think he'll be more competitive in Liege if he rests Fleche + Henao is better option.
Froome skipping PN and Tirreno, going from Herald Tour to Catalyuna.
