Great preview, tsmoha! Was expecting you to report this.
Stage wins by Maillet and Hollenstein, a GC top 10 by Penasa and avoid losing too much ground to the direct PCT competitors is all we are asking for.
Curious about the first TTT in our team history, but it being held right after a difficult hilly stage could make it less painful.
Overall a nice route and we are happy to be here... even though it might not be a blessing pointswise.

I'm thinking Lovkvist will take this. He is well-rounded enough to avoid losing time in most situations and can make time back in the ITT and/or hills. Not only that but he has a solid TTT squad around him which could help.
Eritel will probably take 5/6 stages.

I just want the boys to go out, have fun, and show some spirit in their racing. Hopefully we can get involved in breakaways and have at least one of the Awang/Manan combo actually sprinting on every flat stage though I fear that if one gets dropped then the other one will drop back in support.
If Zardini or Alizadeh or Rohregger get in a break then we should have a decent chance of winning a stage, otherwise we are probalby looking at trying to trouble the top 10 on GC and ending up 15th to 20th just like the rest of our season.
Having said all that we will probably be rubbish and the main plus point afterwards will likely be all the XP gained by our Sammarinese national champion who I'm hoping will get a nice chance to show of that jersey at some point in the race.

It feels a bit awkward to enter a mountainous race without the top favourite (especially now when I was starting to enjoy it ).
I'm expecting the whole package from this race: Awesome pics, great reporting, classic 'murican' drama, and above all great fun! And we have all the needed actors.
There are three top candidates, but the TTs and hills might prove challenging for them. I find it curious as well to have a good number of teams with dual leads in Chernobyl, Africa or Euskaltel. That should be enough to shuffle the cards well enough.
Anyway good luck everyone, especially those guys who want to avoid relegation. We should be in for atreat. Also, thank you immensely tsmoha. Couldn't have asked for a better person to take on this

Good luck to everyone involved! Looks like it might become an interesting battle for the GC.

Came here last year and pulled an amazing result, tough choice whether or not to come again, but seems like not coming was the right choice. Good luck to everyone! |

Right, what should we expect...
Can Haga do the same as last year? Doubtful
Will Tolleson score some good spint results? Would be surprising
Breakaway attempts? Only option left
Looks lke this race will be very tough on us

I forgot to ask earlier is Zardini amongst the strongest here for the hilly stages or are there any specialists making the trip to go stage hunting not covered in the GC men category?

He should be the best puncheur here, at least stawise. Below a quick overview on the best puncheurs, hope tsmoha doesn't mind

Not too great, but at least Popovych and Kashechkin are close to eachother.

Landa would have been the best puncheur here. That is something that wouldnt happen everyday..
Edit: Dissapointing prolouge from Salas here, hoped for a podium or atleast something around top 5. Okay start from Anton aswell but could be better.

Prologues are massive lotteries for us, if Dall'Antonia can finish in the top 10 then why can't Castaneda (67th) who is allegedly better then him.
Thanks for getting us underway, tsmoha, but this start doesn't raise our spirits.
Are we destined to match our form from our two previous GTs? |

Underway. Auspicious start and whilst Ewan could be in range of a lead he's not our sprinter so i'd be incredibly surprised if he managed it. Lets just get cracking and start earning some points.

Amazing start, first TT win in Vontobel history. The leader jersey is perfectly matching our colors.
Would be awesome if Schär can stay upfront one or two more days.
Fonseca said he's feeling in shape and anticipates top 5 results the coming bunch sprints, while Penasa and Maillet both suffering from jetlag, but we expect them to have fresher legs when it gets to the mountains.

Glad to have the prologue out of the way now it's time to get serious about this race and see if we can't get some points over the next few stages. Either Farrar sprinting well or from breakaways which will need to be a theme for us most of this race.

decent prologue nets us one in the top 10, but I wasn't expecting too much from it. Schar did well to promote Swiss cycling and get Vontobel the first leaders jersey, hopefully they can keep it for a while and use this race to get away from the relegation battle.
I'd like to see my malaysians sprinting on the upcoming flat stages, hopefully they will be able to get some top 10's between them or we'll get some TV time thorough some breakaway action.
