Really big race for me, important for my goals and getting the season off to a good start, something I couldn't do last year. Hopefully Kashechkin performs here, and maybe a few sprint stages.
Same here. Pedraza hopefully perfomes in our win goal. I think a podium might be in reach. And please AI, no trolling allowed. |

Always a race that lives long in my heart - Tachira was a nice first season race for us. Long stage races tend to be very good for a couple of climbers who can dominate. However I don't see any out and out favourites so should be a fascinating showdown on the mountain stages.
Good one for second level sprinters as well and this has not attracted any super guns really so well selected from those managers who squeezed a sprinter in there. I gave fjhoekie and Froomedog a hard time in my preview but they have sent decent teams here and could gain decent points.
Interested that Bacardi have sent a fairly weak squad here - didn't think they would be able to be competitive over all 175 race days and I don't think they will be much of a factor here.
I think Nazaret may just sneak it - but it could be any of about 8 climbers who could snatch the overall.

Top five has to be the goal for Marzano. I guess he should place around number 7 or 8 though. Hope Cucinotta can get something out of this race as well. It isn't often he will get the change in such a weak sprinter field on so many stages. He should at least be close to the top on some of the stages.

Seeing the startlist we should aspire for the maximum.
Top 3 should be ok but we have a great chance to go home with the GC. Hope so.

First report up.
Note #1: I forgot to change the sponsorkit, so you may wonder why there's some Aussie-stuff to be seen somewhere
Note #2: There had been issues with the correct YOUNG-RIDER classification here. Please be aware, that those rankings will only be 100% correct in the final stages. So riders born in 1988 may be appear in the U25-rankings now, but won't be eligible for those rankings eventually. Sorry for that.

Good news, Samwel stayed out of trouble. That's all we can hope for on the opening days with no sprinting ambition whatsoever. |

Haha, very sneaky Anton Martin. The Bacardi train deserved a win.

Too flat for Sonnery, but without the bizarre AI he would have nicked some points there which is promising. Why we don't bother with the breaks I'll never know. |

Nice to see Fisher at least contesting some of the huge names here. Good result.

Pleasant start. The new guys really enjoying the Boeing mentality of just go for it. Simon really great day out showing the colors at the head almost all day long. Brilliant to see and emphasizes his talent. Other than that not much, but we aren't here for the sprints.
Classic Cya-logic finish there with a sprint train gaping. Great for Bacardi to have that strength though, and Martin beautifully played it to take the win. Hope the other flat stages are just as good

Reminds me of what happened in our visit here, we did a dominant sprint train in one stage and then sucked for the other flat stages.
A good win for CSC early doors.

OMG! I love Tachira. Parra Bustamante, Rodas, and now Anton Martin.
Hopefully he can keep yellow up to stage 4. If I'm lucky then stage 6 with his decent hill stat.
But, that's thinking to far ahead, time to celebrate this great win.
(Also a well need morale boast bc I have to do 3 presentations for uni today. ).

Bennett seemed to be hindered by whoever was 3rd man in the Jaguar leadout train. Although it is quite hard to say from the report what exactly happened behind the Bacardi train.
4th is alright, but can clearly do better.

Nice stage there Parra Bustamente got into the break and Angarita ensured that we scored our first point!

Good to see Cucinotta on CT level. Far better results in his own. |

A rider in the breakaway is all we could ask for in a stage like this. Haig on 5 overall is great (and I guess he would be in the correct young riders classification as well), and Bercz did well with a Top30, too. Now let's get it over with and then let the battles in the mountains begin

Why is even my team doing a train when there's no lead-out men for Rizza?
9th is bad. Rizza is capable of more definetelly. |

A dominant sprint from Bacardi, even if pipped for victory - I guess reflects the fact that they have the only semi-competent lead out crew, and demonstrates the benefit of such (see also the great racing in Qatar at the moment; the four trains neck-and-neck with around a km to go was awesome!).
Really enjoying all the race reports at the moment, all very high quality, and the rapid pace is also appreciated .
From Nutresa perspective, day 1 can be happily crossed off the calendar - as requested, the team stayed out of trouble and made sure to shepherd the riders most suited to the later stages while expending minimum effort.
Nice to see our fellow Colombian outfit Alpina grab their first points through Angarita's sprint efforts, congrats!
