Superb update again, enjoying reading about your game.
I've been replaying sections still trying to get to grips with the game. Not something I usually do, and I think maybe you get a more realistic outcome if you just have one hit.
Still on Stage 1 playing the intermediate sprint section with Cavendish. First time I totally missed the countdown at the top and so got left behind. So I replayed it, had Bernie Eisel protecting me and really cranked the speed up about 3k out. The rest of the peleton didn't seem bothered and so when I started sprinting I was miles clear. Not so sure about that.
For the end of the stage I chose Boassen-Hagen. First time I just went solo, attacked too early, got swamped, but worse than that, Wiggins and the rest of the team were way behind and lost a load of time. There was also small time gaps between the first few riders which I didn't think there should be.
So I restarted the section, this time got my team relaying. I found if you put the effort lowish, they'll come to the front without actual getting right to the front and doing any work. A good way to get the team together up front. Once that was done I told Wiggins just to stay where he was. He seemed to do a decent job this time of staying up there. I cranked up the relay speed, and so towards the top of the climb I had a couple of team mates ahead of me who even started sprinting themselves just before I set off for the line. I just held off Voeckler for the win with Gilbert in 3rd and this time the peleton had a zero time gap, a much better outcome.
Still haven't really sussed out the food. The time to take some for the red bar for example, doesn't seem like a good time to stop riding??
Also Froome had a puncture at one point, and the manager wanted someone to wait for him. I wanted to tell one of the other guys to wait, but there doesn't seem to be that option.
One thing I'm not sure of is the speed of the peleton. It seems to be predermined and is quite intelligent in terms of chasing down the breakway for example but not so good at reacting to my own speed if I go off the front close to a sprint or end of the race?? Early days though.

Great reports on this - thanks.
I was skeptical, to say the least, on the chances of this being more than a mess but it sounds like it might be fun, even with the issues.
Did I dream this was going to be available on the PSN or Xbox Live Arcade? Otherwise, I'm stuck with trying to find a copy in the USA.
It was eleven more than necessary.

Mike - I don't neccesarily think it is pre-determined pace but I sense an issue around covering off attacks in the last 2km especially if you manage to get a relay on the front and string the peleton out. This was in the 2011 version as well.
It feels like with the peleton strung out you can launch a rider from the front for a last km attack and the AI of the riders from other teams further back doesn't 'see' them to chase them or push all out as a bunch to catch them. Mountain top riding and finishes seems more 'realistic' in that sense.
As I'm playing with Sky I haven't played as a breakaway rider (too busy looking after Wiggins etc) but I sense an improvement this year - last year if you were an immeadiate yellow jersey threat this didn't impact the way the AI chased you quite a lot of the time. Now if you're not in yellow and there is an attack by someone who is a threat then the GC leader's team will mass at the front and push. I think I saw the white jersey's team riding all out to stop a challenger get in the break as well. There seems to be something much more subtle going on with the AI. It also makes the first section of the stage more exciting with fast racing and multiple attacks if different teams decide to chase down different breakaway riders.
Likewise when you're GC leader it tends that other teams seem to look to you to chase. And god forbid you end up riding on your own with the yellow on and chasing the leaders who are a threat - riders always use you to do the work up front and refuse to work themselves if they don't have a GC interest. As Wiggins I had to time trial the last 15km to minimise the damage down by a poor climb trying with two lazy a***s on my back wheel who refused to do any work.
That leads me to two under developed features of the game:
- The ability to ask riders (push down on the left stick whilst turning with triggers to look at them) why they won't cooperate with you. As I said before there is only one useless allianace option in the game as released (alliance when you've broken away with one other rider). I suspect there were meant to be more.
- Earning money. I don't have xbox live but is there any use to the cash you accumalate for winning stages, sprints, places etc??

Just finished stage 2 with the sprint into Tournai. The breakaway of 6 riders almost made it, getting caught in the last half km. Even though I had my relay on 95 effort they never really made it to the front.
The sprint train did a decent job though and once again Cavendish went off the front and couldn't be caught. Was all a bit easy really. Even though the finishers behind were all recognised sprinters, they all seemed to leave it a bit late considering I still had some red bar left when I crossed the line. There should be multiple sprint trains all trying to vie for position and reacting to whatever you do. There was also some really dodgy sitting up in saddle, back down again etc even though my button bashing was keeping the effort bar on full red.
From this, the game is absolutely crying out for replays. I want to see a helicopter replay, head on or any free form camera of these sprints, just like you see on TV.

You don't need to tap LB + RB all 60km of TT - you need to tap them as long as you reach the effort level what you want, then just press and hold A button and that effort level will stay constant!!
At first I thought that you need to tap LB + RB all the time to keep up the pace and get pissed off, but then I found out that's a lot easier

Great review - agree with most of what you say having just got this on PS3 ( pre-order came early! ).
One query though - how do you skip sections? I have read in a couple of places that you can do this, but I havent noticed an option for it? |

The lumpy end to Stage 3 turned out quite interesting. I decided to join the break with Cavendish to pick up some intermediate sprint points. During the playable 1st section the gap didn't get any bigger than 40 seconds, the guys on the breakway didn't seem to want to work that hard, judging by my effort, then during simulation the gap went up to nearly 7 minutes. Once I was back in control the gap started falling again. A little inconsistent in my view.
When it came to the sprint once again it was a formality. At about 1 km, I cranked up the speed, then started sprinting with around 600m left. By the time I'd crossed the line, I was miles clear, the other guys only just starting to sprint. I think this part of the game needs a bit of work.
For the final 2 sections over the climbs there was carnage. I chose Boassen-Hagen. I told Wiggins to follow attacks. So when Gilbert went Wiggins went too, but didn't get very far, so when it came to the next attacks he was struggling. I got Froome to keep him company but there were riders alll over the place.
As it turned out, a single survivor of the initial break won the stage, with mulitple time gaps back to others. I had Wiggins behind me, he just managed to stay in yellow.
No sign of Peter Sagan in my game!

As far as I remember, last year's game was made available through the US XBOX store. Maybe the same goes for this year? |

As far as I know.. in order to get it in the USA you needed to make an account from a different country, meaning you could then buy it, but you would have to understand the language in order to get it
EDIT: FOR PS3

Wouldn't one then run into PAL vs NTSC issues and game zone problems? There's no USA specific version?
Europe must have fully bought into the idea that all Americans are overweight couch-cuddlers who wouldn't know how to mount a bike if it .... well ... hmmm.

you can buy the game because it isn't region locked and you play offline on any account
but if you want online, then you make an uk account, activate the online of game on uk account, after you can enter on your us account and play online
at xbox360 you must ask cyanide if the game it is or not region locked
jseadog it's hard to understand for you the british language,it's totaly diferent then your american words
9 ball you can add and some limited inteligence at couch-cuddlers

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming that means a second Playstation Network account, based in Europe. All very silly.
In terms of language, Superider ... if your signature is symbolic of your grammar skills, I think that speaks for itself, n'est-ce pas?
I spoke the Queen's English for almost 3 decades before I managed to escape. You can too.

Apparently the DB is the same as the PC's Official Release, in which case Yorg Brittren is George Bennett, and Robbie Mozar is Robert Wagner. Tony Gallopin should be Roni Mallomin.

9-Ball I purchased the game and am having it shipped from Sendit.com There are also other websites out there that you can order the game from. The only downside is like they said you have to create a UK PSN account in order to play online. The other downside is that any DLC is not available unless you use the UK PSN account to get it, but that becomes a difficult process in itself. First, you cannot use your american card to purchase PSN funds in GBP. You will need to find a website that sells UK PSN cards. And there are different cards for different countries in Europe. Make sure you get the cards that have the GBP money type. (They will usually say specifically UK in the description.) |

I'm thinking about getting the game and rigging it up to my PC. Is is worth it considering the experiences? Not I don't have a 360 so Kinect isn't an option.
