You mean when kandesbunzler26 takes my 1st pick, then I take everyone else's 1st pick and Croatia takes everyone else's 2nd pick

Let's take a risk on someone with less road cycling pedigree... but certainly a name you may have heard of already. Best result on the road is third in the Boucles de la Mayenne, the recent stomping ground of van der Poel, and with the eighth pick of the second 21 and done draft, jandal selects...
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Well thanks to Aquarius for not jumping past me, I somehow thought he'd pick in front of me anyway??
Actually, there are two very interesting riders available at this point that I was absolutely certain would've been picked up by now, and in good old Puma fashion, I'm thinking long-term and take the one that's nearly a whole three years younger (and in good old me fashion, the one that's more likely to turn out a bust...).
One-hit wonder or future idol of an entire continent? With the 9th pick of round four in the 21 and done draft, I select
Spoiler Biniyam Ghirmay
The youngest rider to ever win a professional cycling race at the moment, Ghirmay is lighting the African sprints on fire this year. Remco Evenewho?

Sorry for being late to my pick
With the "idk" pick of the 2019 February Draft, Aquarius97 selects a rider that becomes 21 in 2 days

Alright, so everybody has signed all their Italians and Slovenes and Belgians and fake Aussies and whatever, but nobody has really looked at this statistically yet. In the last 10 years, what has the average Italian GT rider achieved? A life as a domestique, without any stage wins, jerseys, anything. So, I have come up with one of the countries which, of the riders who make the big time, has one of the best track records. This rider comes from a country, where the average recent rider has worn a race leaders jersey in a grand tour. That's the average rider!
And some people will look at this and say, 'Trek, you're just going down the results of one race and picking everybody based off that.' but I just did the research and decided that this guy was cool and that I was going to be supporting him his whole career anyway, where honestly, I think he'll go very far, CX riders on the road often achieve a huge amount and he shown some massive potential, with his other major result being a race where he broke away with Taarame and won.
If you haven't already guessed by now, the next Laporte (or Veikkanen, I'm not sure honestly <3) is:

My alternative choice to Ghirmay and a very very good pick this late into the game!
I had to check twice if I didn't just miss him getting selected earlier.

Thanks! I was really surprised as well about how long he went, especially as he has been near the top of my list since the start. Ghirmay does look incredible though, to have those results at that age - fantastic long term pick.

Abhishek's pick conclude the February draft.
46 | kandesbunzler26 | Žiga Jerman | 47 | redordead | Karel Vacek | 48 | Shonak | Niklas Märkl | 49 | Croatia14 | Sergio Andres Higuita | 50 | jaxika | Matteo Sobrero | 51 | FreitasPCM | Andrea Bagioli | 52 | df_Trek | Gerben Thijssen | 53 | jandal7 | Eli Iserbyt | 54 | cio93 | Biniyam Ghirmay | 55 | Aquarius97 | Felix Gall | 56 | trekbmc | Jaakko Hänninen | 57 | TheManxMissile | | 58 | AbhishekLFC | Alejandro Osorio |
Highlights of this draft surely have to be the young duo of Karel Vacek and Andrea Bagioli, which have shown great potential in the junior ranks over the last year. Thijssen, Hänninen and Higuita already have their WT contracts in the bag, while Osorio is riding in PCT already. Gall, Märkl, Jerman and Sobrero so far have shown great blinks of talent at some point, and are all part of development programs of World Tour Teams. With Ghirmay and Iserybt we got two guys with most likely the highest bust potential, but on the other side only the sky is the limit for them if they can translate their game to European Road Cycling.
We will continue in May with the next draft, which could become a 2-round draft as participation is lower than I've originally projected. I'd like Feedback of the idea of either a two-round draft at some points or one draft every 2 months instead of every 3 months. |
