Insane performances by Aegon and also Puma this Vuelta. Congratulations!
After todays stage I agree. Most you can expect from a well rounded 78 climber.
Before todays stage though it was close to a 0 pointer + small GC points in the end.
Though it took some seasons until a good breakaway rider depth worked out.
Having a 78 77 77 75 74 lineup here, some attacks were hoped for.
Last year with Valls/Velits, which was 79 78 plus 77 75 75 iirc I basically got 2 GT 0 pointers and similar in the seasons before whenever I had no 80+ leader. |

Taaramae once again showing struggles to keep up with the two main contenders. Ended up a great result, not losing any time but the efforts of the second week are showing and he absolutely needed the team depth to drag him back. Great ride by Vosekalns, Blums and everybody else!
It's good that now a presumably easier stage is coming up but the top finish to Bola del Mundo is tough enough that if Taaramae doesnt recover enough on tomorrows stage, he could easily lose red there. It's far from over.
Congrats roturn, what an outstanding ride by Carboni there!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

The game listed Madrazo as the top favorite for every mountain stage so far, but sadly he hasn't lived up to it even once.

Ouch the GC is deteriorising by the day for de la Cruz. He needs a super day tomorrow…
Giannoutsos in 4th is a good result though.

Sequera (hopefully) has spent too much energy today, so that Carboni as also probably Madouas or De la Cruz will profit and potentially attack tomorrow with the KoM still open as also the fight for that ~12th in the GC. |

I made a bet for the upcoming stage. Bit tricky to give odds for such a stage at this point in the race, but maybe you find something you think is worth betting on

A great effort by our guys. Would have hoped for a better end result, but they took their chances and at least secured some points for us.

I'm a bit bumped to see the break come through as Dzamastagic finished 3rd from the peloton and we also dropped from 1st to 4th in the team classification. Super rare that we are in a competing position for that so would have been nice to take the opportunity. But Moser gaining 40 min on a stage like this will be hard to counter with just one mountain stage left :P
On the other hand, i love love love to see Higuita winning the stage!
Anyway, next stage is where it's important. Fingers crossed that Taaramae is back to his best again.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Of course you always hope for a win when you get in a break like that with all your strongest climbers, but I'm certainly satisfied with our first podium of the race and both Nesset and Sosa climbing some spots in the GC. Still one stage to go, but a clear improvement from the Giro so far for us. Hopefully Trondsen can finish it off good.
In general I'm happy to see that we have more breaks making it stick here than in the Giro. Feels more realistic, as many teams, mine included, build teams around managing to stay away on stages like this.

I’m very dissapointed that de la Cruz didn’t join that break! 13th in GC is OK, but could have been significantly bettered today, as could the KOM.

That was nothing sadly :/ hoped to attack white earlier but no chance with superhuman Madouas this race. Now Gaviria to save the Bacon of our 3rd week on Stage 21.
Great report once more!

We already were close yesterday with Vlasov getting 2nd, so it is great to see the team getting the second win of the season!
Great team work resulting in taking back the team standing is a nice bonus as well, because we need every single extra point we can get to avoid relegation at the end of the season.

Not a bad final couple of days at all! Absolutely delighted with Higuita's first career win and our highest level win ever on Stage 19, perfect ride from him and such a special moment in our team's history
Stage 20 was very decent too, Bennett back into 11th which I guess was his maximum really after such brutal early time losses compared to his rivals. A shame as he should be a Top 10 rider in GTs but oh well, that ITT was just very weird and he wasn't quite at his best anyway I don't think.
Meurisse and Higuita's breakaway adventures moving them to both very handy GC spots and us to 3rd in the Teams Classification is really cool and overall I think those two made up at least a little bit of the difference for us in terms of scoring, though it's not really about that for us at this point of the season. But leaving with that first GT stage win is a very cool feeling

Thanks for some great reports! Very well done.
Congrats knockout for your first ever GT. I wonder if that gives taste for more? :-)
Not quite the race we hoped for, but not a disaster either. We need the Tour to be very one-sided though after 2 poor GTs.

Thanks for the awesome coverage throughout the Vuelta!
For us the last stage of course was horrible, but at the end we are fine. We expected at least 3 stage wins and the sprinters jersey. We lost a couple of days in the leaders jersey that we wanted, but instead we won 4 stages which is nice. We can probably be happy with the outcome despite not gaining close to enough (if any) on Puma here which we expected to do.
Congrats to all the ones doing well, Evonik with the (slightly surprising) GT win and the numerous good breakaway performers. Happy to see knockout winning a GT

Evonik finally wins a GT and it's not the TDF after all those years of trying? A bit sad, but I'm still delighted for you knockout, love to see it and if it's the last of Taaramae's career it's a lovely one to get for his new home
Pretty much wrapped the race up from our perspective in my last post. Mixed bag but the first ever Grand Tour stage win will be one remembered for the rest of our history. Thanks for the awesome reporting Ulrich, really enjoyed the coverage and at such a huge volume is always so impressive

Finally managed to catch up with all the reports. Right in time for the last stage. Stage 20 kind of saved this Vuelta from being a complete disaster from my team. 7th in GC is decent from Reis and Smith also got into the top 30.
However 4 5th places as the best stage results is simply not enough and ends our GT stage win streak. I would've hoped for some more results from breaks, especially with the expert for that Dion Smith here. Unfortunately, despite there being enough opportunities for that my team this time was not very successful from breaks. It's not that we didn't try but when we were part of a successful break my riders were not really contending for the win. The most painful was stage ~5 when Fung was very close to getting himself a stage podium but was swept up by the peloton. I would've wished for Smith to be the rider of my team to be present in breaks more often, but he unfortunately only did it once in stage 20. He'll also be at the tour, hopefully he'll do better there!
Cool to see Taaramäe win this, congrats knockout!
And finally thanks for some great reports, Ulrich! Hope you enjoyed the TV time Zeke Mostov got in this race.

This feels so great but also so surreal eventhough this is exactly what i hoped would happen when i bought him. He looked the strongest on most stages and on the rare occasions where he didn't, he had a whole battalion of support riders around him that helped chase down. Half a decade of chasing him before getting him into the squad seemed worth it
Thank you guys for the congratulations and most importantly thank you Ulrich for another GT with superb reports. The quality of GT reports has been through the roof the last few seasons!
