Really excellent racing and reporting thanks.
As I was a little concerned about, Beltran's overall position potentially hampered our better climbers challenge as they concentrated on supporting him. He has put in an excellent defence, but potentially paid for over-exuberance in stage 8, hitting the wall close to the finish. Looking forward to what more drama the final two stages bring!

So, just got up to date on all the reports and comments.
First of all, great reporting, Alak. Interesting, thorough and very lively, thanks for that
Secondly, the sprints. Had hoped Avelino could mop up the first stages getting some days in yellow and gathering a nice sum of points. However, a stage win and some other good performances are quite pleasing as well.
Thirdly, the mountains. Breakaways is what this race is all about so it's good to see tradition being met once again. Rujano and Sella's duel though is stealing the show , and it's going to be interesting to see if the home boy can give the home fans a reason to cheer. On our side, Vinhas has been underwhelming, perhaps due to his early crash in the 1st mountain stage. A top10 would have been important.
For us it's all about the green jersey now.

Truly epic report, great stuff, Alak! Enjoyed the thrill here and of course this was a huge battle to the line. Must say I have some love for both Sella and Rujano, but I'm happy Rujano took the stage.
Legendary Beltran suffering, could be a first sign of what to come here. Should still end with a decent GC for him. Now wondering how long Txurruka will hang on.. Nazaret to bounce back?
Beaten today
And you were spot on there as well with Nazaret, awesome day for him.

How great is this race so far!!!!!!
5th and 7th in GC with my young boys.
1-2 in U25 ranking.
Seeing that my two GC riders are within the best hilly riders of all favourites, I hope that they don`t lose GC spots now.
I was a bit afraid to see them at the end of the bigger groups and Quintana ahead. In the end though they proved to save it for the late phase, while Quintana struggled a bit to keep the highest pace.
Thanks for the report Alak. |

Not a good race from our perspective. Popovych not too bad, Topchanyuk pretty OK as well, but not enough points to justify the money spent on flying tickets.

Argh, so close. Great performance by Montenegro though. Martinez not bad either
But Sella's yellow jersey got me confused sometimes, I first thought it was Montenegro celebrating at the finish line
Thanks for the great report Alak, got me hooked until the very end!

Another great report, catching the way to Sella's victory pretty well. That final stage can be tricky for some, but I guess Della will be up at the front.
Always a stylish way to proved you're the one to deserve yellow - that Sella show today. Nazaret, like I said Also Beltran suffering didn't came as a huge surprise.. Txurruka to be dropped in the hilly crit now?..

Rodas doing his best.
Barredo lazy though why is he giving up the KoM. He better fight for it some more! |

Nooo.
NOOOOOO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Damn it. Third time in three years we fail our win goal.
Rujano's performance makes me scared though, when he faces stronger competition. |

Sella just really dominant there - classy ride from him and after a long time in the PT battling away in the Giro it is great to see him now going for the lower stage races.
Really quite suprised Rujano couldn't be closer or even beating Sella, then again he has the weight of riding for Mobil on him - they bring down all stats auto by two immediately
Nazaret has been rubbish throughout but actually woke up there albeit a bit too late, but good to see variety in each of the mountain battles gives a lot of hope for a fun season all round.
Thanks for the reports here Alak - great labour effort.

Wow Sella really dominating here - so is the whole Siam-Cement team actaully! What a race for them! Aegon also with a brilliant race it seems.
That's it. The less said about Pantano's performance the better...

Always skimmed through the Tachira-reports the last years (even before I joined the man-game) as I made the stages. But this year is truly amazing!!!
Awesome reports, Alakagom!
Enjoyed the read and the nicely chosen screens... and I'm happy the AI makes it a nice race, too. (haven't always been the case the last years)

Great reports Alak, i enjoy them a lot!
Sella looks like deserved winner, if he will hold on his nice lead in the final stage, what he should do easily. Aegon with nice perfrmance too, with their young guns.

Now you made me happy Alak!
Finally some good luck with the daily form! Classic performance by Nazaret, it was a pitty Sella is that strong in this race. If we can hold the 4th it would be acceptable for us seeing the competition.
Now let's hope Ventoso wins the last stage and I can brag everybody about why I bring him to Táchira (ok ok... was a bad decision)

Arhg... Green jersey would have been a nice little souvenir from Venezuela. Tough to lose the lead by such close margin.
Terrific display of strength from Sella there. Home fans won't be happy, but as Smowz said it's hard to see Rujano at the top of his game when riding for Mobil

Just realised I haven't yet commented after reading the report yesterday.
Awesome to celebrate the first win of the season, and what a win it was. The race couldn't have gone any better for me so far.
Also great to see Rodrigues come in 5th moving him back into the top 10. The mountain jersey is a nice bonus for the team and also in the team classification it seems like we win at the moment, only the green jersey missing.
Only slightly disappointing thing is that Poorseyedi dropped a few places, but 18th is still a great result for him in a race like this.
Looking forward to the next stage now, hoping for no crash or flat tire, which still could ruin the entire race for me. |
