I hate DHL. Try to deliver a parcel in an 8 hour window - no more specific - and then don't tick any boxes on the card so I don't know what they've done with it. And the collection centre is an hour away.
On a cheerier note, 5 years as a Daily member today. I must be mad |

Just to let people know, especially for MG-related stuff, I shall be away from tomorrow morning until Wednesday without internet, so won't be able to log on or look at anything due to that time frame. Hopefully I won't miss anything, but I'm aware renewals for instance are going to be coming up soon, so just a heads up to say that I won't be around for a few days

Since my country was one of two countries with full solar eclipses yesterday, we ended up just like GB... It was so cloudy, only two small villages was allowed to see the whole bloody thing... So this is officially mourning saturday in our country

I still remember the total eclipse in August 1999.
The day went from bright to dark, suddenly it got cold and the birds went silent (even though it was just dark for around some minutes and not like hours).
That is still the weirdest stuff I have ever experienced, I will never ever forget it.

I woke up tot hat news, just been running through the highlights. Wow. Just wow.
I also woke up to the Chiefs losing
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Small milestone as this is my 17 000th post here
Also, finished my internship, think I'll get good grades for it, so the toughest part of my school year is behind me Just in time for the spring classics!

Big airplane crash today in Europe, crashed in the French Alpes. 130 dead.
I wonder, hearing news like this (or other crashes), who is afraid of flying and who isn't? I, for one, have never flown yet, and I think I'll avoid it for as long as I can...
It's said that flying is safer than driving, and perhaps this is so, but when something goes wrong in an airplane, there isn't anything you can do about it. With a car, you have more control over your own fate. |

Heard it
Well the fact that a plane crash is always huge international news says enough, doesn't it?
So many flights each day and it just rarely happens.
Although I like travelling by car as well, I prefer flying nowadays.
Just so much quicker and so much more relaxed.

I trust an experienced pilot with a few thousand metres between him and the ground more to solve a critical situation than I trust myself as a relatively young driver with a few metres, sometimes only centimetres between myself and the crash barrier, a tree or another car.
I've flown around 35 times in my life now and at no moment did I feel worse or less safe than I do while driving 160kph on a highway.
And yes, it's a terrible tragedy for Germany and the other involved countries nevertheless. Shows you everything can be over tomorrow, no matter your age or health.

I see your point. I guess that's just dependant on your character. I don't even feel safe in a car when someone else is driving. When I'm driving, I feel a bit safer (until I see a crazy car in traffic...)
I guess traveling always holds risk. Still, flying seems shit scary to me. |

I much prefer flying to driving. I know that the Pilot has been through some of the most rigourous training, racking up hundreds of hours before being allowed to fly actualy passengers. They are also very closely monitered for drink and drug use and are heavily limited in the amount of hours they can work so as to avoid fatigue. Pilots also undergo regular re-testing and updating of skills. As much time as they spend in the air they will spend in simulators practicing.
However drivers are not monitord for drink or drugs or other distractions. They don't undergo regular re-testing or learn new skills. There's no limit on hours they can drive. Plus most drivers will be in relatively close proximity to pedestrians and cyclists. One slip, one lapse of concentraion, one impaired decisions and it's the 100% innocent unprotected unaware bystander who gets flattened.
But then i do carry some bias. I want to be a pilot and i've been hit by a car (though it wasn't at great speed). Flying is hugely safe for the most part. It's easy to identify the dangerous planes, airlines and places to fly and avoid them.
