So, uhm, hi. You might remember me I think. Sorry I haven's posted for months, but suffering a full blown emotional breakdown due to college kinda ruined my life for a bit. Ruined my relantionship, ruined my mental state and took me a few months to recover.
I'm not sure if I'm back (I still came to the website almost everyday, I just didn't post), but well. Hi. |

Hi, i'm here to talk a little but about womens cycling. And then Infinity War
Spoiler So i opened a Womens Cycling 2018 thread, having done so for the previous few years as well. This time around i didn't put up a bit of an introduction to soome of the top teams + riders, i put quite a bit of time into them in the past for what felt like no real reason. Did put up the WWT calendar and other notable races cause that takes very little time. Updated on the Aussie/NZL nationals and then nothing else. That's a big change from the past where i've written about most Spring races before dropping off over Summer when i wasnt on Daily do much.
I've scaled back all that posting and work here because, whilst i love the womens side of the sport and still follow it as closely as ever, it never really got that much feedback or interaction from the community. So not many others are that into womens cycling, i'm not going to force anyone to get interested just like there are others who love Cyclo-cross or MTB which i have no feeling towards.
But i do feel the whole womens side is seriously underrated and underappreciated. No question in my mind that the racing is consistently more exciting and unpredictable. No question in my mind that the personalities are more unique and genuine and interesting. I'm more engaged with almost every aspect of the womens side than the mens.
So off Daily i've been practicing writing for a Blog around womens cycling. Putting together various race reports, previews, news and general talk. Just seeing if i could actually do something like this consistently and to a good level.
Long story short, i have an awful lot of practice still to do before any of it went online... So instead i'm here to recommend a few personalities, twitters and sites to look at if you want to follow or get into womens cycling:
Lizzie Deignan - https://twitter.com/lizziedeignan
She's one of the best in the world on a bike, although currently on maternity leaver. Her twitter is always full of nice behind the scenes looks and great reaction and news around the peloton.
Tayler Wiles - https://twitter.com/TaylerWiles
You all knew this was coming She'll give you a good look at a sub-top level rider as well as great advice on coffee and cookies.
Loren Rowney - https://twitter.com/LorenRowney
Ex-pro, now DS for Trek Drops. She has written various blog posts all over the place, and her one on Ella about switching from rider to DS is one of the most fascinating cycling pieces around. Always got a brilliant insight into the world of cycling.
Kathryn Bertine - https://twitter.com/KathrynBertine
This could get long... Ex-pro and author/director/activist/spokesperson/charity founder... Half the Road is an excellent watch. Share the Road is an excellent read. Going for Gold is a brilliant read. Her twitter is a fantastic soure of information and comment on womens cycling. She's just a wonderful and insightful person.
Alison Tetrick - https://twitter.com/AMTetrick
You should also have seen this coming Ex-pro but still a brillian look into the world of cycling, especially crazy gravel enduro stuff. And she's just funny!
Ella - https://cyclingtips.com/womens-cycling/
Well it's Ella CyclingTips, the womens part of CyclingTips. A fantastic place for comment and analysis of the womens sport with plenty of interesting articles and contributors.
Total Womens Cycling - https://totalwomenscycling.com/#oRXF4...Imlz84D.97
Granted a lot of this sight is aimed at women who cycle, but their Road Cycling section often has cool race recaps and other pro related articles.
Cycling News, Womens - https://www.cyclingnews.com/womens/
Obvious but easy to miss. Cycling News does have a dedicated womens section and is my go-to source for most news about womens cycling. They also get some good blogs from pro-riders as well.
Cycling Fever - https://women.cyclingfever.com/
My #1 source for transfer news later in the year. It is a good source for races, results, rosters, palmares and links to interviews from tons of places.
Plus PCS also is good for results and rosters.
Putting that into a spoiler cause it got longer than in intended. Be thankful i didn't recommend every twitter i follow!
And now for Infinity War
Spoiler I went to see it on the Friday the day after it came out, so on day 2 of its release. I never go to see films that early into their cycle, tending to wait a few weeks until the cinemas are quieter and sometimes cheaper. But it's Infinity War and this was the best way to avoid spoilers.
It was a damn good film! Marvel and the Russo's nailed the opening sequence to establish genuine threat and then didn't let up on the pacing. It's a long film but at no stage was i bored or feeling tired.
Ok there was an issue going in, i knew what films were coming out post-Infinity War so i wasn't worried those characters would die. But there was enough unknown futures and ability to change around teams line-ups to still generate real danger in this film.
Infinity War isn't the best MCU film, that still is held by Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but i think it's in my Top 5. (#1 Winter Soldier, #2 CA: First Avenger, #3 Spiderman, #4 Thor Ragnarok, #5 Infinity War having replaced Civil War).
Anyway, i thought it was a great movie. And as a culmination of 10 years of set-up it delivered hugely. Marvel has done something truly incredible with the MCU and has deeply changed the enterainment industry in the process.
I'm hyped for Ant Man & The Wasp, because Paul Rudd is just wonderful in everything. Captain Marvel will be really interesting and includes a return to the big-screen for Agent Coulsen, and in setting up Avengers 4. Before of course we get Avengers 4 and the conclusion of 3 Phase's, 11 years, 22 films and 12 TV shows.
Speaking of TV shows, i maintain Agents of Shield is one of the best series on tv for the last 5 years! And i cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone who likes comics, Marvel, the MCU, or action/thriller/sci-fi stuff in general.
From season 1 showing the effect of Winter Soldier in a wider world and on real people, which is fascinating to watch and again is something new Marvel did that is super clever and brilliant.
Season 2 tackling more fall-out from that, and introducing Inhumans expanding the MCU's use and experience of powered individuals.
Season 3 basically stepping in for a lack of X-Men with some clever work on rights and trust for superpowered people, and still dealing with Hydra.
Season 4 becoming something really really special... omg Season 4 is one of best seasons of TV ever... Adding Ghost Rider to the MCU was excellent. The LMD's bringing a new personal threat. Before culminating with a fantastic What If homage that tore right into the hearts of these characters.
Season 5 has done a great job exploring the repurcutions of that What If moment, as well as tying in nicely with the wider universe in the MCU and i bet these final 2 episodes, probably the final 2 episodes of the whole show, will be stellar.
Again in a spoiler cause i went a touch long there at the end
Anyone else see Infinity War?

Haven't seen Infinity War, not a Marvel fan, but I've read/heard enough spoilers to know exactly what has happened
On a different track, just checked that I have 153 GB of PCM data from PCM 14 - 17! This includes game files including EPs, active save games, current story data, MG and ICL.

This weekend i was in Uppsala covering the UCI races Tour of Uppsala and Scandinavian Race. Present were a good few Finnish riders - it's a pretty odd feeling speaking to someone while in the back of my head while talking to Joni Kanerva: "I own you and I have great plans for you!"
Damn you MG

Ah, I did the junior version of the kermeese (Skandis GP) last year and I have friends in the elite race this year, that course makes Red Hook look like a ride in the park.
Missed my likely one and only chance to meet Rebellin (the winner) and Veyhe though.

I've let you all down
https://www.mafiauniverse.com/forums/...ost2311356
I represented PCM.Daily in the Mafia championships and was eliminated in the first round, being ousted as a mafia member. It was a fun experience and a couple mistakes here and there led to my elimination.
I would be happy to discuss the game in more detail following the conclusion.

bblover: It was amazing. Started with a new womens UCI stage race (tour of Uppsala) that was won by a girl from Uppsala so the atmosphere was great right from the start.
It is very odd standing face to face with people you feel a relatively close connection with based on a fictional world as several other riders in my MG team or destined to end up there were on the startline.
hillis: No. It's purely a hobby project giving some coverage to Swedish cycling
trek: Skandis GP is a cruel route! Said to be the toughest kermesse route in Europe.
Rebellin will continue racing and winning yet smaller races until you're an old man. Veyhe shouldn't be impossible either if you go to a kermesse-type race in Denmark/Sweden as he seems to enjoy that kind of racing. He was 3rd in Skandis GP this year btw.

@Miguel: Hello, lost son! I've actually missed you. Welcome back.
@TMM: Yeah, I've seen it. Amazing movie. Now I've got to watch all the other marvel movies, since I have only watched 2 or so.

I would highly recommend watching Deadpool 2 if you want a movie with humour that is second to none, action, and a plot that can actually be followed! I absolutely loved it and I'm not the only one to say I enjoyed it far more than Infinity War and I'd personally saw it's actually a better movie than Infinity War

I read a great interview with Josh Brolin, aka Cable and Thanos, and you could tell which film was more 'fun'. Deadpool was great fun first time around and nailed the tone of true deadpool, but lacked any good villain or threat.
Deadpool 2 seems to have fixed that big issue by having a real villain. And the change in director from Miller to Leitch is also a great pick. Leitch is a master of action fight scenes and brings real weight and impact to a character that can't die.
Better than Infinity War? It's more light hearted and works better stood alone. But i still prefer Infinity War for it's ambition, scale and that it's a Part 1 that doesn't feel cut in half (ok, the Russo's go to great lengths to say it's not a Part 1 but it just is).
If anyone hasn't yet watched Atomic Blonde i absolutely recommend it. I firmly believe it's one of 2017's most underrated films. Leitch masters some excellent fight scenes, and the 90's style (neon, synths, but not 80's) is wonderful. Plus... well... Charlize Theron and Sofia Boutella... ... .... ... lost my thoughts there for a moment Anyway, well worth watching!

Some personal news. Nearly two years after writing this post (btw, how are we still on this same thread...) I can happily announce I've been promoted to being the Sports Editor of this mid-sized newspaper that I got my first "real" job at. The former sports editor is moving on to cover Division I college athletics in another state.
I'm extremely excited to be in control of my own sports section. Every day I go to work I get to share stories and get paid for it. A skill that I practiced and honed here starting almost a decade ago has turned into something I could have never imagined. To all those that have read my work or been a part of this amazing community, you made this possible.
Thank you.
