The second stage in Utah is quite harder than yesterday´s. Van Garderen got a great position and we´re optimistic that he´s able to stay there. Sevilla is the biggest favourite for today while he´s the best climber by far.
Rene Obst, the man in the leader jersey, won´t have big chances to keep his leading position because he´s not that strong in the mountains
Sevilla was actually the first one, starting an attack with more than 30 kilometres to go! There were some riders, going after him but no one could follow Sevilla
Crawford and Obst were the next riders, making a move. Crawford´s try was successful but Obst had no chance to stay with him. Van Garderen and Lewis made the pace in the pack so Crawford and especially Sevilla were not able to get a big gap
But on the last short uphill part of today´s stage, Van Garderen couldn´t stay in the pack anymore. He had to go after his rivals. Thanks to Goss and Lewis as they did a huge job, keeping the pace really high
On the very long downhill section with more than 15 kilometres to the finish, Sevilla was still in front but Van Garderen and Crawford were a few seconds behind him. The whole last part of this stage was a downhill section, so there was no chance to attack again
With only 5 kilometres to go, Van Garderen was still behind Sevilla but at least we were able to leave Crawford behind us. The Fly V Australia rider was completely exhausted on the last kilometres
Sevilla could save a small advantage to Van Garderen to the finish. But in the end they had the same time! Great stage by Tejay and especially a great performance, reaching Sevilla in the end
Crawford came with a big gap to Sevilla and TVG. But he still managed to finish on the podium with 1 minute and 10 seconds to us. Sevilla is the new overall leader because Obst lost over 2 minutes

Good ride with him.
Also good that you are s.t. to him. Is there a final ITT in Utah?
Guess VG is better than Sevilla then? |

Thanks guys!
@roturn
Yes there will be a ITT on the final stage but the stage before is way harder than stage 2! Hopefully we can bring VG in position there |

Today is gonna be an important stage for us in Belgium! On the first view, this stage seems to be quite easy for sprinters but in the middle of today´s race, we´re expecting some nice cobblestone parts. Because of that, we´re not sure if Martin can go for the top 5 overall placement. I don´t think I have to call today´s biggest favourite! But I´m doing it anyway...Fabian Cancellara
It was a really bad day for us and especially for Tony Martin. After we passed the cobblestone chapters, Tony Martin and many more from Columbia were not able to stay in the first group. Martin lost many minutes today, so he can completely forget a nice overall result!
With only 11 kilometres to go, it was of course Fabian Cancellara who made a fantastic move! He knew exactly that he would not have any chances when it comes to a bunch sprint with Boasson Hagen, O´Grady, Robert Hunter or Tom Boonen! We´re glad to have at least Bernhard Eisel, Lars Ytting Bak and Mark Renshaw in the leading group. But last one wasn´t able to sprint as he was really exhausted!
Within a few seconds, Cancellara was able to build a huge gap to his chasers. And so Boasson Hagen, Robert Hunter, O´Grady, Traksel and Westra tried to go after him. Also Eisel and Bak made a move but it didn´t look really good. So we decided to wish Traksel all the best for today
Boasson Hagen crashed when they were sprinting for the second position but fortunately he wasn´t injured! But he missed a podium... which was quite realistic for Hunter and O´Grady now!
Cancellara celebrated an impressive stage win. It´s the second for him after the strong prologue. That means he increased his overall leading in front Kirchen and Engoulvent
O´Grady took the second place in front of Westra! Traksel got another great result. He finished on the 6th position while Bak and Eisel also could reach the top 10! Bak is our new captain because he is in an amazing overall position with the 4th place

Wow, I thought those 3 small cobble sections wouldn't change important things in GC, especially being so far to the finish.. but they did.
Poor Martin

Yes, it was really strange but Martin wasn´t able to follow...well his cobblestone stat is 53. The leading group with SaxoBank kept the pace really high , so we had no chance to bring him back |

Bad luck with Martin but still a good position with Bak and he is also a good timetrialist.
So good luck with him now. |

Today´s stage is a really easy one with only 64 kilometres which are completely flat! The sprint competition isn´t very strong so it should be a stage win for Matthew Goss!
Our sprint train looked very good. The only thing was, that Van Dijk could get Howard´s wheel. So Leigh was leading out Van Dijk and his captain Matthew Goss
After Hayden Roulston had brought our train in the perfect position, Howard had to pull the sprint for Van Dijk, who was followed by our sprinter Goss
Leigh Howard did an excellent job today just like Roulston. Matthew Goss passed Van Dijk on the last metres and so it´s the favourite stage win for us. Nothing fancy, because we expected that from ourselves! Howard missed the podium behind Rene Obst

Well, since Tony Martin lost over 7 minutes yesterday, we should have new plans for the following stages. Lars Ytting is the best placed rider in our team on position 4 in the overall. Today is another flat stage which might be a nice chance for Renshaw or Eisel
As you can see, there was no Columbia sprint train when the sprint began. Tony Martin was not able to bring us to the front. Eisel and Renshaw decided to sprint but they hadn´t any chance to reach at least a top 5 result. Omega Pharma - Lotto got an amazing train with De Haes and Roelandts
Roelandts was still in front with only 500 metres to go! But Tom Boonen came really fast on the right just like Robert Hunter
But it was too late for them. Roelandts took a great stage win for his team while Boonen and Hunter complete the podium. Eisel and Renshaw couldn´t even reach the top 10 today
Stage results
1 | Jürgen Roelandts | Omega Pharma - Lotto | 3h31'29 | 2 | Tom Boonen | Quick·Step | s.t. | 3 | Robert Hunter | Garmin - Transitions | s.t. | 4 | Lieuwe Westra | Vacansoleil Pro Cycling Team | s.t. | 5 | Robbie McEwen | Team Katusha | s.t. | 6 | Gerald Ciolek | Team Milram | s.t. | 7 | Manuel Cardoso | Footon - Servetto | s.t. | 8 | Stuart O'Grady | Team Saxo Bank | s.t. | 9 | Alessandro Petacchi | Lampre - Farnese Vini | s.t. | 10 | Filippo Pozzato | Team Katusha | s.t. | 11 | Bernhard Eisel | Team HTC - Columbia | s.t. | 12 | Mark Renshaw | Team HTC - Columbia | s.t. | 13 | Kenny De Haes | Omega Pharma - Lotto | s.t. | 14 | Mirco Lorenzetto | Lampre - Farnese Vini | s.t. | 15 | Francesco Chicchi | Liquigas - Doimo | s.t. |
