Such a disappointment after such a promising opening. Goss very well could have held a respectable GC position if we didn’t send Anuar Aziz here too. The parcours didn’t really suit AA, but he’s been ok here previously. AI didn’t like that
Goss really needs to land on the podium tomorrow to retain that green jersey; if we come out of this with a stage, points jersey and top-10 it won’t be the disaster it’s shaping up to be.
Congrats again atlantius - I wish Gautier could have pulled his finger out and done this for you last season. Anywho, this has been some crazy dominance from him.

This was an ok race for us, missing the highlight I was looking for. No stage podium, GC top 10 missed by a second and Ewan besting Gaviria. On the plus side, a lot of points were taken by a CT team, so this might be ok rankingwise.
Thanks for the swift reports, Roturn!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Couldn't you Caleb save your wins for any other stage of the season?

That was dominant (in the end) from Ewan. Really liked to see Ewan and Gaviria battling both in the sprints and the hills in this race. Expecting many more of those in the years to come!

Well, it wasn't unexpected that Ewan would win the stage and steal the podium place of Bystrom, but it's still annoying
Roelandts sprinting to 4th, while also looking really strong at the end of the sprint, finally a great sprint for him in the race, but winning Ewan today was too much to ask him to do. Rodriguez tried his luck in a breakaway, both looking to avoid Ewan to get the win in a sprint, while also trying to improve on his U25 ranking.
But Podium Ambition showed there some podium ambitions and didn't let a breakaway win today as it happened last season.
We are coming out of this race with 93 points, so a pretty strong effort from the team, without any real winner in the squad, so after 8RDs we are already with 163 points in 6th place in the PCT ranking, and with a big gap to all teams behind us (ironically, the best teams in DUC, also were the best teams in TDU, except Generali)
Thanks a lot for the reports roturn!

Maybe you should check again all the classifications and the points scales before saying it's a 0-pointer

Very interesting reports to read as a non-participant, thanks roturn
Hard to see how the results will influence me, so I don't know what to think of them. At least the sprints are pretty undecided so far, so I wonder if some riders will step up or if points will be spread throughout the season.
This race was also a strong argument for no crashes imo, even though I was undecided before the season. Race was unpredictable enough without them already. |

6th, 17th (Rovny went completely off the radar with that) and 25th for Guardini in a C1 race is meh points considering what it could've been. KoM jersey only gives a bit extra, but overall little disappointed by this result. Our worst TdU ever, but after the win in DUC, then this is still an on point start to the season for us. Thanks for the reports and congrats to Atlantius for a genius win from Gautier

Thanks for some great reports, and I'm not just saying that because we won. A much more fun/exiting race than I expected from the new route.
Gautier obviously did amazing and really put some pressure on us for the hilly CT races. Doubt he'll be as dominant as one could expect based on this though. Nevertheless a better start than I could have dreamt of!

I must admit the route change played out very nicely as it became more open with sprinters and puncheurs mixing.
Two things could have been even more interesting though:
1) if Gautier hadn`t been that dominant and only gained on one stage
2) if better hill sprinters had been around as in recent years with Reimer or other 73+ sprinters with high sprint, that might be more in PT though these days.
But for me it was a nice change and was a thrilling stage from day 1 until the final day with some nice small stories to tell for several teams.
Unfortunately some teams had bad luck, where I was looking forward for decent resuls. e.g. Nordstrom, where I was hoping to see something from Villella. Also Caruso had done better in the past, but while others improved, he basically stagnated and hence explains a bit.
Also surprising how some teams do work better with double leader ship, e.g. Podium Ambition while others don`t work as great such as Holloway/Schreurs/Klemme or also Gaviria/Waeytens. One reason surely the individual strength of e.g. Yates over Waeytens, but Schreurs I would have seen better still. |

Kreder with another great effort, though it seemed like the opposition was a bit more aware of his early move this time A great race from him overall though, and I feel pretty comfortable he will be a good lead out for Guarnieri later in the season, and a good captain in the few C2 races he will lead in.
Our puncheurs on the other hand were a little disappointing, and I'm now worried we might not collect a lot of points in the other hilly C1 races we will do. Though interesting to see whether the addition of Vichot could make a difference.
Now a little break for us before we continue our season with Great Ocean Road Classic where we have a win goal and Guarnieri will make his debut for us.
Congrats to Atlantius on the GC win! Brilliant start to season for them. And of course thanks roturn for the great, fast paced reports!

Can't really be unhappy with a stage win, but vanderbiest's performance throughout was terrible.
Very happy to us get a good sprint train on most stages, but i guess it doesn't really matter if we can't pull it out in the end.
A bit dissapointed that palini wasnt able to grab any sort of points, but that was to be expected i guess.
Great race for Valio and thanks for the reports roturn! |

The stage best suited to Drapac's abilities and he shows he can be there when the route is really, really flat. With Quevedo 13th and Eiking 3rd in KoM, overall not a bad race for us.
Congrats Valio on the revenge of Gautier, and thanks roturn for the reports!

No break win in a short final stage of a stage race? That's some news
Quiet finish in a great stage race for us. Can't complain about anything, this was by far our best ever start to a season, which bodes well for the rest of the year, uhm I guess.
Congrats Atlantius once again on a terrific effort from Gautier and of course thanks once more to roturn for the comprehensive reports throughout!

Goss
Great stuff with another podium finish and such a narrow victory over Ewan in the points classification. Nice day for Australia as well, with Ewan winning the final stage, Drapac doing well too and McCarthy landing a solid GC result.. Porte in the early break was nice for a change and Jones with his best sprint as 31st
Pretty interesting race indeed and thanks for the great reports! Really happy from an Aussie point of view, despite our Mitchelton guys being too passive with breakaways, imo.

Thank you for the reports, roturn, and also the nice pace they came at!
Very good race from start to finish, I think. Big cogratulations to Atlantius, what a perfect way to start the season!
Obviously also a huge result for Generali, and then there's Bystrøm for Repsol as well, which I must say I enjoy a lot to see do that well. In the end Ewan took the podium from him, but deservedly so one must say, seeing the great race Ewan have had, fighting well to stay in contention for the GC, and then finally getting that sprint win too. |

Thanks roturn for reporting and congrats to Atlantius.
With zero points, another race to forget for my team. At least I could see our jersey in BOTD from stage 4 onward.

Hopefully this is one of the worst races we have all season. Lacking that sprinter who can go over a hill has hurt us and is definitely somewhere we can add a rider next season. We've barely taken a handful of points but historically the team has always struggled in the Australia so we'll not think too much into it.
The Clasique Pico Basile is up next for us and should be a good opportunity to get our season back on track with Nazaret in a Mountainous classic.
Thanks to roturn for reporting this one and congrats to those teams, especially Valio, who have managed a good start to the season here.

Congrats atlantius! Gautier was a man possessed.
Very interesting race with the Corkscrew stage downgraded to flat, if the profile remains the same next year I can see it becoming a hilly-sprinter’s Mecca in the future.
Very happy that Goss could hold on to the green jersey, if only by a single point! A good race for him, a stage win and other commendable finishes as well as 20-25th GC. Oh so close to another victory here though; but good to see the Australians all had a pretty good race.
Thanks for the reports too, they were great!
