Round 5 Results
A very tricky challenge to finish off the season, as you'll see from the results. The key clue here, which nobody got, were the crash protection and steward's post at the side of the road and a view over the very green hills all the way down to the sea. There's a lot of rain here. Did people have generally the same ideas?
matt17br | Mokoreta, New Zealand | Bjartne | Castle Hill, New Zealand | afirm | Tyndrum, Stirling, UK | PeterRyder | Prague, Czech Republic | Marcovdw | Ruatahuna, New Zealand | jseadog1 | Nant, France | lakebeach | Wakefield, New Zealand | Kiserlovski01 | Waldkirch, Switzerland | AbhishekLFC | Grimselpass, Switzerland | jihardy | Thorne, South Yorkshire, UK | DiCyc | Garforth, West Yorkshire, UK | The Rider | Garrigill, Cumbria, UK | Luxemburger | Djupivogur, Iceland | trekbmc | Gowanbridge, New Zealand |
Unfortunately, with an outside chance of winning the whole thing, Croatia14 disappeared, ending any chances. Most people thought it was in the rugged terrain of NZ's South Island or the Pennines in Northern England. The big city of Prague was an interesting answer. As for the guys battling for the win, the gap is huge. One in Southern Europe, the other in New Zealand. But who will take the win? Where is our adventurer?
The temporary race track should have given any motorcycling fans a real clue. This is part of the Isle of Man TT Course, going past Snaefell, IOM. So, who takes the final win?

I can not get across just how bad New Zealand was as an answer.
The Rider takes the win, 70 kilometres closer than DiCyc by being just over the Irish Sea in Cumbria. Anywhere in the UK saw you miles better off than the rest. jihardy and afirm, once again in the top 5, both in the right country. Fifth to ninth were extremely close together in Central Europe but jseadog1, despite getting seventh and and putting more than 17000km in to lakebeach doesn't gain enough points on his rival to take the overall win. Congratulations to the inaugural GeoGuessr Champion, lakebeach!
And with that, here are the final standings:

As you can see, there is a new column added, showing the average distance away per round. jseadog1 and Croatia14 were impressive but afirm was brilliant and would have been a huge threat had he taken part in more rounds. Just one point separated fourth and fifth in the end, the same as tenth and eleventh. All in all, the entire season has been very close and the first round advantage the top two gained proved too hard to claw back for the others.
A massive thank you to the guys who took part in every round and thank you to everyone who gave it a try. It depends on demand whether there will be another season, but I would be more than happy to do it if I have solid interest from enough people. As this was a beta test, I'd be more than happy to hear your suggestions and improvements on everything.

I'm in, this sounds really fun although I may inadvertently win furthest distance away in my attempts to win the game.
That was so close to being right, last of all the people to finish all the rounds but after the third round I was a top 5 contender...
Thanks for a really fun game brewers and congrats lakebeach (why do I feel like you always win these types of things )

So was there even any real chance that I was going to win? I was so much closer than him. As a suggestion maybe points system should change just a bit, I thought being so much closer would have gotten me the win
Thanks for putting it on!

Yep, 4th place would have been enough. That's just the way it goes. The points system is one thing definitely under review, although I like it as it is personally. Then again, I haven't just been beaten in that way.

This, I think that 250 points is possibly too much for getting it spot on. Even lowering it by 50 would make a difference imo.
As for the last round. lol. Yes NZL was a bad choice. I was really undecided whether to go with Scotland or NZL as heart was rambling "aye" and mind was screaming "oi" but I guess that's what you get for not listening to your heart
Loved how this was ran anyway, I obviously would be more than interested in a second attempt at this seeing how Hamburg basically screwed this up. All the others locations were perfectly fine. Just make sure the locations you decide are not findable via google reverse search since that could potentially spoil the fun.
Thanks for this brewers.

How many of you honestly reverse googled every single photo?
Also, that first round had the PERFECT balance between findable and undefindable.

I would be more than happy to reduce it to 200 points unless there's any objections.
The first round was definitely the best one but images that good with the blurry flags and all the other clues are not easy to find. In a potential Season 2, I would spend more time trying to find really good locations that you can work out but I still want some of them to be really difficult.

I agree with this decision. Some of the textual clues may have been misleading and overthunk, like the great lakes boating clue, cant believe I spent 2 hours in Canada on the easiest one

Great fun! I'd sure like to participate in season two, then I'll try to take part in every round.
Thanks for hosting, brewers! |

Argh, I was so close to put Scotland as my final answer. But the season, all in all, I'm happy with and a top 5 is nice. Hoping for a podium next season if you're doing it again.
My tip is to reduce it to 200 points as mentioned AND extend the season to 10 rounds or more. If someone get it spot on the first round, and finish around the top in the 2nd round aswell, you feel like you've already lost, but if you have a longer season, there will still be a good chance for a comeback, even after a bad start. |

I must confess I feel a little bit guilty to have won after giving such a horrible last answer. So yeah, the points system maybe could need a little improvement.
Thanks for hosting this though, brewers, it has been great fun.

noooo damn it, I thought that I sent my answer in, seems like I forgot it
I would have gone for Wales btw...was sure that it´s somewhere in Western Europe but scrolling through PCM I stopped at Suttys profile picture and thought that Wales might be it...could´ve sent me on the podium :/

The round win and the podium.
I could have been well off with the last one but it turned out good for me. I had to go with upland England with that one as upland England looks just like it does in that picture: rolling hills, barren, sadly due to no tree cover.
Thank you Brewers! |

Thanks! About time, I guess.
