Yeah, I don't like spiders all that much. And yet, would that stop me going to Australia? Hell no! Buy me a ticket and I'll fly there today!
Just because you're afraid of something doesn't mean you can't do it.
Like roller coasters?
I rode them last year for the first time, and now I love them to death!

I find that hard to believe. Is that 1 car vs 1 plane or 1 plane vs. 100 cars (about 1 car for every 3 people on the plane)
Granted it does depend on the plane, and a DC10 is certainly not enviro friendly. But both the Boeing 787 and Airbus A380 produce almost the same CO2 emission per kilomter as a Toyota Prius. Yes the Prius is more friendly, but a 4x4 SUV used by most parents or a 4-door BMW saloon used by most business men pumps out more emissions than those giant jets. Those giant jets are also comparitive in noise polution to the cars.
The airline industy (at least in Europe) has pledged to cut it's carbon footprint by half in the next 35-40 years. No other industy has made the same commitments. And no other industy has the evidence to back that up. By 2050 most major airlines will have ditched the old models in favor of the newer more efficent offerings from Boeing and Airbus. Combined with adhereance to the EU ETS and continued commitment to Bio Jet Fuels the airline indust will be one of the global leaders in combating climate change

@Dippo
There aren't really that many spiders, at least not in urban areas. The only real experience I've had with them was at school when I was 6 or 7 and my friends and I were just chilling on a wall when I looked up and saw a tarantula about an inch above my head. You can imagine I was rather frightened

This is something I never have and never will understand. My aussie friend goes back ever 1 or 2 years or whatever, and I asked him once: "So what do you do when a black widow or that funnel web spider suddenly appears?" and he was like "Umh, I guess you kill it, or something". I mean, did he never have one in his room or so?
From what I heard, and from reading Bill Bryson's Australia book (great book btw, definitely recommend it) I kinda assumed there was at least 1 or 2 really bad spider in every front garden.

Don't know about that, maybe in another area, but I was pretty excited a couple years ago when I saw a huntsman. and that was about an hour out of the city.

Only ever seen Sharks in Oz, and a few snakes. Sharks are terrifying and give no fucks, coming right in close and checking out any and every boat. Snakes, luckily, are a lot more standoffish so you can pretty easily avoid them if you are paying attention.
I really need to go back to 'Straya, havn't been in ages now. Sydney or Melbourne ideally. Love Sydeny one of the most pictureseque cities, and one of the most walkable, you can get around a lot of it on foot safely which is a huge plus point

IIRC correctly it was Sydney he was talking about (that's also where my mate's from), with spiderwebs with big, hairy spiders hanging around in every front garden. Now, let me google how fierce a huntsman is.
Jeeeez those things are fucking huge. I would be scared shitless to see that in my room.

Why are people so afraid of death anyway? I mean getting a plane hijacked and dying in an explosion is actually one of the best ways to die, not too painful...

I mean, if you're living life guarding risks all the time you're not really getting the most out of life...
It's kinda similar to those people who always live for 5 years in the future. You never experience the reward for what you work for.

It's just not worth the risk to me, even if its a 1 in a million risk.
And next, you're going to tell us you wrap yourself in cotton wool, isolate yourself from society and try to sue anyone who comes within 100 metres of you?

I met Wiggins at a amateur race in the North of England a couple of years ago. A friend of mine and his wife were in the same race. He was really cool to chat with.

Finally at home...well not really. After all the next trains were gone until tomorrow morning I decided to go elsewhere and will be at the house of my parents for about one week instead of going back to my own flat.
Definitely Ann easier decision when having all
my bachelor thesis stuff with me and being able to write from anywhere.
In the weeks time I am going to take the same train. Hopefully with working wipers then...or no rain...

I was sitting in a large room, with about 6 other people and I just saw a huntsman, and I'm said, woah that's a massive spider and my dad told me it was a huntsman and killed it. It was pretty cool.
