This year's Tour of Qatar has a totally flat route. The only exciting stage is stage 2, a team time trial. We expect to see a sprinter from a strong team take home the overall win.

Favorites: Tyler Farrar, Ben Swift, Andrea Guardini, Arnaud Demare, Allan Davis

Welcome to Qatar! The first stage, as you would expect, is flat as a pancake. We will probably see a mass sprint after 136km of desert. We hope for a top 5 finish, which seems to be realistic.

Favorites: Tyler Farrar, Ben Swift, Andrea Guardini, Arnaud Demare, Allan Davis

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/Vuelta12ACG/therace.png

128km to go - The first rider to attack in this year's Tour of Qatar is our own Laurent Didier!

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PBNL/2012/Qatar/Stage1/1-DidierAttack.jpg

112km to go - Laurent gets joined by Rohan Dennis, Evert Verbist and Pieter Ghyllebert. They form today's breakaway.

Intermediate sprint 2 (Umm Suwaiya Farm)

20km to go - Under the 20km banner, Rohan Dennis is the only remaining rider of the breakaway. The peloton is 50 seconds behind.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PBNL/2012/Qatar/Stage1/3-Dennis20km.jpg

8km to go - Rohan Dennis is caught, and the train have formed. Project Benelux is leading the pack, Joost Posthuma is doing the pace.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PBNL/2012/Qatar/Stage1/4-PBNLTrain.jpg

5km to go - Now Garmin - Sharp and Sky Procycling are also forming trains. Project Benelux is still leading the pack, Leif Hoste is doing the pace now.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PBNL/2012/Qatar/Stage1/5-MoreTrains.jpg

2500m to go - Boy Van Poppel is the first rider to start the sprint. Michael Van Staeyen and Kenny Van Hummel are safely in his wheel.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PBNL/2012/Qatar/Stage1/6-2500m.jpg

800m to go - Kenny Van Hummel got blocked by Garmin - Sharp's Robbie Hunter. Luckily he avoided a crash, but he dropped a lot of places. Michael Van Staeyen now has to do the job, but he is already tired because of his leadout for Kenny. Sky's Ben Swift is leading the pack now, it looks like he can win this.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PBNL/2012/Qatar/Stage1/7-800m.jpg

0m to go - And Ben Swift takes it home! Very nice victory for Sky! Tyler Farrar finishes 2nd, Gediminas Bagdonas manages to finish 3rd.

i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh592/caspervdluijt/PBNL/2012/Qatar/Stage1/8-Finish.jpg

0m to go - Our best finisher is Michael Van Staeyen, he managed to finish 8th. Kenny fought hard to get back to the front, and managed to finish 9th. If he wasn't blocked by Robert Hunter, who finished 11th, he would have been able to finish in the top 5. But that's racing, you know.

Solid start for the 2 guys. Should develop into regular winners in the near future.

So, as you guys could have expected from me, and as I should have expected from myself, I once again stop writing a story.

It takes too much time, and I lost my motivation rapidly; it was very big at the start.

Mitch is also quitting the project, so hereby I declare another one of my stories dead.

But guys, don't think I didn't think twice before I started this, I really doubted it a few times, because I knew that my motivation would fade away at some point. That point just came a lot earlier than expected.

That's why it's always a good idea to write some reports before actually starting the story Wink Additionally, from what I've seen several stories that that start the thread before the career is started (most common example is stories who will wait for DBs to be released) never get started for real. So another thing I'd recommend is start the story with the save already going on, and already writing everything you should, instead of creating "reserved" posts and only updating them later (there's usually not much reason for that after all) Wink

Cunego59 has some nice tips about keeping on with a story here:

And well, bad to see this story go, but indeed there's little point in continuing if there's no motivation for it. Better luck for the next one Wink ( = I'm pretty sure there'll be a next one anytime Pfft)
