It's not like they signed the world best rider. You guys are overrating him. He is a young talent who got some good results in the U23 category but still has to prove everything.
I understand his choice though. Iirc he could choose between three teams
Team A has just won the Tour due to the best teamwork seen in years.
Team B has probably the most talent of all teams but can't get good results because of management, sporting directors and cyclist not working together very well.
Team C has hasn't signed any riders yet because their future is probably uncertain.

And they don't sign the best riders in the world with their money. They sign riders they believe have potential and use their money to give them all the resources to fully use that potential.

Teamwork? Okay. I guess your right. He loves the teamwork of not developing into a future GT winner and working in a mountain train for a Kenyan spider.

Cunego. Gilbert. Cavendish. Hagen. Wiggins.
All riders they made offers to.
EDIT: I can't recall the exact numbers from the recently released accounts but I believe it's 2.7Million they spent on transfers the past year alone. That's a Pro Conti team's budget just on signing fees.

how does working for someone mean he'll never be a GT winner?
he still rides, still gets experience, still gets better
then either inherits the role as wiggins and froome move on
or moves on himself

As for Dombrowski, let him go wherever the heck he wants.

You think he should go to a team where he can lead the team in a GT next year? Really?
I don't even think he would have raced a GT next year. Whatever team he had signed with.

Sad to see he'll have to wait until he's in his late twenties to get an oppurtunity if that. He's gone...
Well I guess that leaves TJVG and Talansky here.

and no, I don't think he should lead a GT next year. But he could be tested in smaller WT races and be a main luitenent, get breakaway oppurtunities and gain leadership experience.

Why, did someone here make the boast that those teams don't try to sign top riders?

not for a first year
maybe later in the year in the higher level conti races but he would never lead at p-n, t-a, or pais vasco
maybe catal but no WT would 'risk' it
breaks yes, leadership no

Cavendish wanted to go their, otherwise he would have signed with Quick-Step, won 8 TdF stages with full team support and a way bigger paycheck.
Wiggins wanted to go there, he begged Vaughters to let him go.
Hagen wanted out of the team HTC (because of Cavendish, a bit ironic now but also because of Greipel)
Gilbert signed for way more money with BMC and Cunego is still riding with the same team he joined in 2002 where he can do whatever he wants to do.

I said be tested, meaning they could bring him to Catalunya and let him roam free to test the waters, not lead. I can't see a single opp at Sky for the next 3-4 years at least.

Who says he won't get those chances? Henao got a chance to lead the team in Pais Vasco this year.

Oh boo-hoo one team is going all in during the transfer season to replace their most talented rider... It just means the peleton is less evenly spread, and things will be all the sweeter when someone else can take the spotlight right?
I hate Sky (besides their roster) too, but every little thing they do causes a storm round here nowadays and clogs things up.
