he doesnt need to keep it really, the next stages are pretty flat so I think the sprinters teams will do the majority of the work

I think Froome and Contador both don't want to take the yellow before they have to.
For them its not about winning a stage like this, its more important to win the GC. |

You lack knowledge mate.
GC teams are doing this all the time. No reason for every rider to fight hard to stay with the captain, when the captain doesn't need more than 1-2 riders.
And as you saw yourself, Roche and Rogers managed just fine.
Trust me. They are where they need to be when the big mountains starts.
BTW it seems very realistic that 5 riders drop. Ranging from Tosatto to a experienced cliber like Hernandez or Paulinho.
Even Majka in medio shape would last way longer than Tosatto.

Yeah it puzzles me aswell, he just won a cracking TDF stage with a perfectly timed attack, he ended up with yellow but I doubt him and Astana would be that worried about having yellow just yet anyway and will most likely let it fall to a breakaway in the next few stages.
I do wonder sometimes if people think before they comment
