I don't know if this is considered heresy, but I've been thinking about this lately:
Given the state of the forum with the Off-Topic and ManGame subforums by far the most active, wouldn't it be useful to move them up in the order, maybe below only the PCM19 subforum? It's not that big of a deal to scroll all the way down everytime, but at the same time, why not make it easier if we can?
The only active sections between PCM19 and Off-Topic are the ones with active stories or story games, and while we're at it, I'd like to propose to unify all version-specific story forums into one, which would be placed permanently at the bottom of whichever PCM is the most recent. That could look something like this:
This would provide the active stories from previous editions with a more prominent spot in the forum structure and those interested in reading stories have all of them at one glance - plus, you have one more or less flourishing subforum instead of several that are deserted except for one or two stories each. (I don't know if this is something that would work for story games as well as I'm not involved with those.)
I don't know if this would be too elaborate (or even possible) on the backend or too much of a habit breaker, but in my opinion, it would be a pretty significant quality of life improvement. What do you think about it? |

I like that idea. Thought of the story idea as well for a longer time know. |

Absolute great idea if that is possible

I think it should be possible. The subforums of older editions have been merged into just one, for instance. I just don't know how much of an effort that is. |

Very good ideas all round. I completely agree. The accessibility and frontloading of active forums might also help attract and keep new users. I also just think it might be time to condense a lot of the old game forums. At this point, 13-17 are probably as dead as 06-12. No reason to have more than two or three full game forms imo, unless one has unprecedented staying power (like PCM 11 did for a while, but it was condensed all the same).

another thing we must keep is a stage section, at least 17-18 will be active for at least another two season or more, due to the fact that older versions stages can be used also in the current.
So maybe:
Pro Cycling Manager 2019
.
Stages
.
Stories
.
MG
.
PCM.daily
.
Off-Topic
.
PCM 18
.
PCM 17
.
PCM 16
.
PCM 15
.
Other versions.

Yeah I also agree with this idea. Something like what Tamijo suggested looks good.
One thing is that if we merge all stories that have ever been written that sub forum may become quite large (Im not sure, just guessing, but older versions had much more than in recent years)
If we do merge forums in that way, would it be required that we mention what version of the game the story or even stages are for with a [PCM17] f.e. in the title?

In terms of forum size, the largest merged forums of the old versions have 3347 threads ('11) or 85.444 posts ('12). All story forums from '13 to '19 combined have 537 threads with 54.292 posts (32k of which are from PCM13!). So I think that should be fine. I don't know if it makes sense to go look through those older versions for stories to add them as well. They'd be at the backend of that new forum anyway. I thought maybe it could have a sticky post as a sort of "Hall of Fame" with the most read/liked/influential stories that are inactive which could then have older things like Monster Energy linked in it. But that's details.
As for tags, I think they could be voluntary, maybe? For stories, I don't think it's that big of a deal which version they use to tell it, maybe more so for stages?

Since I really only use the "Off-Topic" threads I also support the idea. As bbl said, the most active at the top might attract more users.

I also like the idea and support Tamijo's layout. I think stages and stories both deserve their own section, even if they might only have one subforum each.

Maybe we could have the Story Games sections of the various forums merged and put in the Stories Forum? It is rather confusing the way it is now.

That makes sense, changed it up a bit now.

While I like the idea of stages forums being more prominent as well, just be careful because many of the threads don’t actually state what version of the game the stage is made for, and compatibility isn’t universal so preciously the main way to check if a stage works is to look at the forum section.
Of course, the easy solution is to just only include stage sections of games with stages compatible with PCM19 in there.

Having dusted off PCM 2006 recently (which you can read about my struggles in my "Tips for PCM 2006 thread), I've been contemplating the idea of making a 2006 story, but with a bunch of future greats added to the Free Agents, replacing old guys. My only concern is that PCM 2006 doesn't have a story section, and its only dedicated general section is quite low down the forum. Would it be possible to Add in an "Older PCM stories section" or something along those lines?
I guess it might lead to some issues with already started stories from earlier games still being in their general section (PCM 11 f.e), rather than in the stories section, but stories that are currently active could be moved upon request (if thats feasible, I'm not sure).
If its not possible thats okay, I just wanted to ask and see if its, but understand that its not a very necessary or asked about request at this point anyway.

+1 And I would like to add it doesn't matter which PCM we're playing because stories are always interesting.
About merging old PCM topics, here is the solution. 2 sections each with 6 editions exactly:
1) PCM 2006 - PCM 2011;
2) PCM 2012 - PCM 2017.
Let's save the history of PCM together!
Just write me a PM if you have something for old PCM Editions (from 2005 to 2014) - databases, stages, shirts etc. and we'll share it.

It's also kind of weird PCM 11 has been condensed yet. I remember PCM 11 was condensed in 2013-2014, when it was still relatively active. Anything through 17 could easily be condensed to a general form at this point.

I once put forward the idea of condensing all stories into one subsection. So, not even a section like PCM20 or Stories and Story Games like it is now, but simply one Subsection "Stories" and one "Story Games" and then potentially putting them just below the subsection of the current game (or the ManGame or sth). A bit like this:
I think it would be feasible from a volume standpoint and since there are only a few currently running stories, I think they could all benefit if they were in one place. And I agree with tomcat that the version doesn't matter all that much, at least in my opinion. Or it could always be mentioned in the title, if necessary.
Also, I would love a PCM 2006 story!
€: Ha, I just noticed that "I once put forward" was this exact thread even with another beautiful MS Paint creation. Didn't realize that at first.

I like the idea of one section. We only really get about 5 new stories a year approximately nowadays, so filtering them by game isn't too important now (compared to in the past, where we would get a new story every week it felt like).
Having them all in one section would indeed help activity I think as well. Thats partly why I brought it up, as I think currently, a PCM 2006 story which is waaaay down the forum might get lost a bit more than if it were further up, in the story section.
I also saves space a bit too, so I like what you've proposed with the screenshot.

A stricter and leaner forum structure would be good in general.
