The 7th edition of the Great Ocean Road Classic is the first Sprinters classic for CT teams, with many teams sending their best sprinters here. The profile suggests it will be for the sprinters, but the lumps which the riders must go over throughout the first 70% of the day could lead to a breakaway holding off the pack in the right scenario. The aforementioned hills could hurt some of the chances of sprinters who are not as strong going uphill, but it all depends on how the peloton want to ride them. If the pressure does not increase until the final 40km or so, the climbing-challenged riders will have a better chance for sure! Perhaps after last year, the sprinters teams will ride a little harder to ensure a sprint finish this time around!
| Hil | SP | AC | | Hil | SP | AC | Guillen | 61 | 81 | 82 | Suryadi | 62 | 79 | 76 | Thorsen | 53 | 81 | 83 | Nepomnyachsniy | 64 | 78 | 76 | Granjel Cabrera | 69 | 80 | 77 | Canelon | 57 | 78 | 83 | Moser | 67 | 80 | 79 | Yamamoto | 65 | 78 | 78 | Carsi | 55 | 80 | 82 | Vaquera | 64 | 78 | 80 | Boivin | 70 | 79 | 80 | Fonseca | 61 | 78 | 77 | Von Hoff | 66 | 79 | 77 | Szalontay | 52 | 78 | 77 | Vingerling | 62 | 79 | 79 | Kamberaj | 69 | 77 | 76 | Bennett | 63 | 79 | 79 | Cimolai | 66 | 77 | 77 | Krieger | 62 | 79 | 79 | Dockx | 66 | 77 | 76 | Manarelli | 59 | 79 | 79 | Kruopis | 69 | 77 | 75 |
Granjel Cabrera is seen as the race favourite, with one of the quickest finishes, and being one of the strongest on the hills, but has only Dockx as a strong leadout man to help, so teams with more support may want to take advantage of that.
Some of those especially strong teams are: Centovalli - Fiat, CYBEX Platinum, Eddie Stobart, Equinor Pro Cycling, Euskaltel - Elior and NENT.
Guillen, Thorsen and Carsi are maybe the 3 quickest on pan flat stages, but with the parcours having a bit of hills, they may all struggle to have enough in the legs at the end of the race.
Moser and Boivin are two of the better sprinters on the hills, but they are also very close to the strongest sprinters here, so at the end of the day they could be the ones with the most energy in the sprint.
| FL | Hil | SP | AC | Ratto | 79 | 60 | 75 | 73 | Maes | 79 | 66 | 61 | 66 | Van Poppel | 75 | 67 | 76 | 78 | Navardauskas | 75 | 75 | 75 | 70 | Cherkasov | 77 | 69 | 68 | 72 |
With the possibility of a break, or even high pace on the hills, these 5 guys are the favourites to upset the sprinters. Navardauskas is probably the most versatile rider in the race, and may have the strongest team in the race so he could be used strategically to catch the other teams off guard. Even from a breakaway or late attack he would be very dangerous. Ratto is the strongest on the flats and has a strong sprint finish to go with it so he cannot be overlooked. Maes and Cherkasov are both riders who could ride away from the pack due to their high flat stat but can also be used as strong leadout men depending on their teams strategy.

Interesting to see if our new look sprint setup work wonders here. Would be amazing to have Boivin take a W! Great preview!

I hope that Krieger will get a top 10, but the hills may kill him. My money is on Boivin.

A team of opportunists for GCN here. Hoping Bille can do something for us but it is down to Szalontay for a sprint

Really interested in seeing how the pure sprinters can handle the race in comparison to the more complete.

The Adastra's season will start in Geelong this year. While Kamberaj and Navardauskas are indeed contenders, I don't fancy my chances for a win - a solid Top 15 finish wiould be great.

Let's see how Guillén handles those hills. If he should get dropped, Stocker could take over his role - he doesn't really like hills, either, but at least he's good on the flat. No big expectations, though.

An incredibly messy and disorganized race because of those splits which left a lot of domestiques behind.
Had a Top 5 goal here so Moser finishing 8th is very disappointing when he should have been a pretty safe shout for a Top 5.
Need more from him and more control from the team in the future if we want a good point scoring season out of him.

Not sure how I feel about this result. My guys probably ended up about in the expected spots so I'll take what we can out of it. At least they were not lost behind doing nothing.

Well we came in with no expectations for the race, but Maes turned up and did exactly what we had hoped he would. Slightly disappointed that we didn't get a win, but a podium position and then Yamamoto in the Top 15 is a good result. |

Oh yeah Netia getting to business with an awesomely executed plan, Reckweg with the power and making up for the team missing out on what would have obviously been a Roux win in Cristobal! What a start to life in the CT
