January is over for the PCT teams and they had quite some racing, in parts vs. PT or CT teams as well.
The main stage race was the Tour Down Under with some even went for the 10 day C2 Vuelta al Tachira.
Big points as well in the HC Down Under Classics and PTHC Apex Mountain Classic, while Pico Basile added nicely as C1 while smaller points could have been collected in San Cristobal.
Let`s start chronological. The season opener in Down Under Classic saw a dominant Mohs win and brought Fablok onto the winner road early. Lierse and Podium Ambition being runner up while Iberia with Degenkolb had a rather weak start into the season.
5 Teams went to San Cristobal. But while 4 of those scored, it was some tiny little bits. 1 points for both Kraftwerk and Minions were maximum.
A lot more and basically the most all month was scored in the 6 day Tour Down Under where some sprinters mixed the GC up but still the puncheurs did win. Though it was a CT puncheur and the biggest points were taken out of the PCT.
Podium Ambition though with a great duo Ewan/Yates make it a high scoring race while Generali with Ulissi and great team depth are following not far behind. Fablok yet again and Indosat also with some decent race.
All but one team did score at least a bit even though for some, it`s barely worth it.
Vuelta al Tachira basically can be skipped. Azteca as only team for Nation reasons I guess, but the scoring of 2 pts on 10 days surely a neckbreaker PPRD wise.
Apex Mountain Classic then was about challenge the best PT climbers. With Pluchkin being in PCT, it was a rather fair challenge and no surprise to see him delivering which moves Popo4Ever over the 100point mark. Also Ayuobwan with a decent race while many teams scored double digits and only 3 teams didn`t score at all.
A similar event in the Classique Pico Basile. Though this time being a mountain top finish as a classic. And a much different startlist as well with Pluchkin skipping it. Philips` Henao Montoya grabbed the win ahead of Denifl and Kudus. Next to those three teams it was Repsol with a strong performance and good points.

In total this means Fablok is leading the ranking despute using only 8 race days but the Down Under performances was simply best. same for Podium Ambition, who are in 2nd not far behind but with 2rd more.
Indosat and Repsol follow closely while Lierse is making important points early on.
At the bottom Reddit but they just like Netia have the minimum race days used of 2 and this one was a 0-pointer.
Worse for Nordstrom and Azteca as they used a lot more race days. Later even the most with 14 and still less than 1 PpRD!
The projections obviously are far off still that early but some teams surely should improve as quick as possible to no lose the contact early on.

Individually Caleb Ewan is the leader. Winning a stage in the Tour Down Under and taking 3rd in the GC was key but the additional performance in the DUC was needed to beat Mohs. Though it`s 8vs2 race days!
Goss as other TdU stage winner and also taking the point competition makes it an early sprinter domination as Holloway, Van Asbroeck, Roelandts and Guardini also show.
Ulissi the best of the rest as 4th. Runner-Up in the TdU delivered him 109 points, which is more than the 100 of Pluchkin in Apex as 3rd or Henao Montoya`s win in Pico Basile.
Bystrom as 4th in the TdU completes teh top10!

I didn't think it was a great month, but out of relegation and even safer in PpRD sounds great to me
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

1st after 8 RDs gives a good feeling for sure
Now we should be able to stay in the Top 5 if our Pologne will be just a bit like last year. However, being first might not happen again this season

Happy to be 3rd after the first month; no races we expected to score many points in really. Goss doing well in the TDU and Brenes soaking up points in other races is great! Lots of races for us in the next few months, hope we can make the most of them.
Not much to make of this yet though - only a month in.
Thanks for the update!

You will not see Podium Ambition this high in the rankings again this season
But whilst we are up there...

Very pleased with 11th so far, and with Valls/Penasa's depth scoring. 9th in PPRD is even better!
I'd imagine with OHN, Gent-Wevelgem and Viana do Castelo coming in February, Baugnies will join the climbers higher up the scoring charts. Just have to hope Barbin is capable of performing well this season, despite his lower HIL stat than many of his key competitors.
Congrats to Fablok in particular, the golden oldies look to have realised this year is now-or-never for the squad. And thanks for the update roturn.

@Booker:
Can you PM me your scoring and I can check. Should be same normally but early on, maybe a mistake here and there in the file or in some race files, which can be quickly fixed.
Both total and where from you got this maybe. |

Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit! We're already on fifth despite having two races we'd prefered not to ride. With some cobbles coming up, a lot seems to be possible early in the season.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Not the best start of the season, but if I remember we scored even less points last season at this point, and we turned out fine.
Thanks for the update roturn.

Good TDU with a surprise top 10, decent Apex, sub-par Pico, Just out of the points and a terrible DUC... Decent month, time for Nepom to get going and secure us a good place.

Thanks for the update Roturn, always interesting reading and good to be able to track progression through the season as we progress forward together.
Would be premature to draw (m)any conclusions as yet at this early juncture in the season. Doesn't stop me from being confident in predicting no team will achieve either 40+ or dead-flat zero ppRD across the season .
Minor point for clarity: I think the projected points score for all the teams might not be using the correct number of RD's for PCT this year.

Indeed. Realized myself already and fixed in the file but not in the thread but it`s small differences only and will be correct in February onwards. |

I mean, we've really not even started a proper race for us yet, so I expected to be near the bottom. Not much to say after 4 RD. It will be more telling once the classics season starts.

17th without coppel racing and without Lo Cicero doing anything is really nice.
Obviously its early in the season so these rankings dont really mean that much, but its always fun to look at. |

Too early for the tinfoil hat to come out but we really deserved a lot more than what we got thanks to the quirks of the AI
Obviously after February will give us a much better impression of what we can do this year

4 race days, and nothing we were expecting to score that significantly in, so Im not too worried yet.
